Pictures online are deceiving! As we walked in, it seemed decent and clean. I will say there was a sketchy guy hanging out in the lobby and then when we came back from getting dinner, the same guy was still there. After seeing him walk inside, behind us, I think he was friends with the gentleman who was at the check in counter. The stairwell smelled like an spca. Like there has been dogs and cats living in the stairways. The vending machine for snacks was empty. There was no where to get ice from so I'm not sure why there was an ice bucket in our room(not that we would have used it because it was dirty). The decoration table in the hall that held a fake plant, by the elevator(that we walked in and walked right back out of because it smelled horrible and didn't seem safe), looked as if it hadn't been dusted or wiped down in months or even maybe a year! The room we had was OK but the drawers you could tell hadn't been cleaned out/checked/or even wiped out in a while! There were 2 empty snack boxes in one of the clothes drawers and there were little nat like bugs in the bedside drawer. The remote for the TV was disgusting and had stuff caked in between the buttons. The plug on the lamp that sat at the table, which should have been used for maybe a laptop or charging station for guests, had the TV/wifi box ect plugged in to it instead. My bf had to screw in a light bulb because the main light wasn't coming on. You could see all the patch spots from where they tried to cover the holes in the walls, and the hand towel in the bathroom was see thru in some spots because of how worn/used it was. There was black hair and soap scum in the bath/shower area, and the toilet paper holder was coming off the wall. The tissue holder was rusted and coffee pot was disgusting on the inside as if it was never cleaned. The phone was also nasty as it had a film and red stuff splattered on it. As well as the ceiling and curtins had a similar splatter of some sort all over them. Overall, the only thing in the room that seemed to maybe be cleaned/fresh were the beds. Luckily, my little family only had to stay here for one night and we didn't have to spend too much time in the room!
I also noticed that the fire extinguisher that was on our floor(2nd floor) was missing and there were no cameras at all anywhere in the halls or stairwells. The only camera that I had made note of was the one randomly sitting on the front desk check in counter as you walked in. The two back doors that we were told we could use to come in and out of were never locked. They were left open for the public to come and go freely without needing a key card. Which doesn't seem very safe considering the no cameras.
A positive amongst all of the negatives, the continental breakfast wasn't too bad. They had a variety of things to pick from such as mini donuts, yogurt, apples and bananas, bagels, toast and cereal. Also, as we were checking out we got to meet the owners dog named "Com". The lady at the desk said that she was watching him for the owner of the hotel.
**Mind you, there was a chalk board on the lobby wall that read something like.. "Please excuse our mess as we are under construction" - There was no sign of construction taking place at the time of our stay. It seems as if they are updating maybe on an AS NEEDED basis. Who knows, maybe we got put in a last resort room that hadn't had any TLC in a long time. However, rooms like the one I booked, should not be made accessible to the public or even an option to give your paying customers. Upon reading more reviews, I noticed that "construction" as been going on at this location for about 4 years now. I have stayed in some run down hotels but this one was BY...
Read moreI normally view overtly negative hotel reviews with skepticism.
This review is 100% real; AVOID this "HOTEL" at all costs.
NOT AS PICTURED: Upon arrival, it became obvious that the pictures were a gross misrepresentation of the hotel. But the front of the hotel was the better part. The hallways are haunting, with windows that look like they haven't been washed in 10 years. Upon entering the first room we found carpet that was stained and dirty, the paint was peeling/chipped in places too numerous to count. The rooms have a depressing and severely outdated (by 25 years) color scheme. There was hair on the beds, one bed wasn't even made. The ceilings were stained and dirty. One sink didn't work. The bathroom fan clunked. The towels were stained.
TWO HOURS TO FIND A ROOM: It took me two hours and eight tries to get my room: Once most of our group was checked into their rooms I went to my room. It reeked of cigarette smoke so I requested a different room. I was then given a key to a room that smelled like there was a dead body under the bed.
The next room had a door lock that didn't work. The clerk (a polite man, likely not to blame for any of this) took me in the back door of the room through the patio...the door didn't open from the inside either and I declined to stay in a room I couldn't exit into the hallway. The next room only had one bed. The next three rooms wouldn't unlock. We had to keep running back to the desk which is a significant distance from the rooms....The next room was occupied by a sleeping customer (no kidding, I had to stop the clerk from opening the room because I knew someone was in there.) The eighth room was run-down but was the best we had seen so far so I took it.
A SMORGASBOARD OF SMELLS: One member of our group said, "this place is a smorgasbord of smells." Humorous, except it was true. I have never smelled so many terrible (and diversified) smells in my life.
THE BREAKFAST THAT WASN'T: We choose a hotel with a continental breakfast to save expenses on this trip...we don't expect a gourmet buffet but when I came down for breakfast there were waffles and toast. That's it. We ended up spending money on breakfast both mornings because it was completely unacceptable.
THEY KEPT OUR MONEY: Because of the condition of the hotel, one of our group canceled their reservation and went elsewhere. The hotel did offer one night of refund for the room we didn't use, but made us pay for the other night. This is unacceptable, and Priceline was no help. I have filed a claim with my credit card in order to get the money back from the unused room.
CONCLUSION: Avoid this hotel at all costs. My biggest fear of our stay is getting some kind of bugs. One of our group THINKS they may have gotten bit by a bedbug or flea while staying at this hotel. I'm doing a thorough cleaning of all my garments...
Read moreI stayed in room no. 81 of the Lantern Lodge in March 2013. I would not recommend to stay here. Some first impressions: the hallway looks pretty old and empty, the lights here are only on when it is dark outside, doesn´t make a good impression on daylight or in the afternoon though the two fire extinguishers that I have seen both expired in April 2012 the elevator certification expired on 9/30/2012 I paid about $85 for room 81. I had 2 TVs, queen size bed, couch, small table, small fridge, microwave, AC near the floor. WiFi worked good, no password needed to login, so watch what you do, since everybody has access to this Internet. Better don´t do any online banking or stuff like that. The water drains really slow at the sink. Maybe they should clean the tubing more frequently. The carpet looks like it is really worn out. Just plain flat and hard. I would not go barefoot on this carpet, just to be sure. All the recepticals are really loose. Everytime you unplug something you pull the whole receptical unit out of the wall. The AC unit works fine. Although it seems to run slower when you turn the fridge all the way up. The insulation in this room seems to be pretty poor. It gets cold at night when you turn the AC heat off, but with the AC blowing I can´t sleep. In the hallway you can hear the wind blowing all over. You have a balcony, thats nice. But it is not a private balcony. You will share it with all apartments that are around you. TV works fine. They always respected my "do not disturb" tag on the door. The mirrors and tables are all pretty clean. Smoke detector in the room seems to be activated and working. Also, the so called "gym" is a joke. It is open until 10pm and only has three treadmills. No weights or anything else. Calling something like this a gym is a pretty...
