The atmosphere here was super fun. They’ve got some retro island vibes and it was definitely an experience to remember. The lady that spoke to us was super friendly and knowledgeable about their entire menu.
We got a mocha latte with coconut, masala chai frappe, chicken salad croissant, knuckle sandwich, and a cinnamon roll.
The mocha latte with coconut: well balanced, not too sweet. My husband was expecting decadent, but was pleasantly surprised at how smooth and balanced it was. The espresso shot was pulled pretty well and it wasn’t bitter.
The chai frappe: very good. It definitely felt like a treat, not just a frozen coffee. The lady shared they use a frappe powder, so it would make it more sweet, to which I was fine with. Overall a good chai, just wish it had a bit more of a kick with being labeled as “masala”.
Chicken salad croissant: the croissant was warmed up, which I thought was a nice touch. All the flavors blended really nicely.
Knuckle sandwich: good hearty sandwich with lots of flavor, but nothing that made it “extraordinary” in comparison to similar sandwiches elsewhere. If we’re being honest, it was not quite worth the $9. If there was any way it could be cheaper, like $6, it definitely would be worth that. It would definitely be a sandwich I’d come back for again. Same goes for the chicken salad croissant — overpriced.
Cinnamon Roll: well worth the price. They warmed it up and the icing was just the right amount and not overly sweet. It was nice and soft. Not the best cinnamon roll I’ve had (check out Olga’s Cinnamon Rolls if you’re ever in Gatlinburg 😜), but their price for it was definitely representative of it and very satisfied for that price.
Overall very good experience. A couple things that would’ve made this 5 stars, would be adjustment of pricing on a few items to reflect similar pricing to other places in comparison to quality, or adding something “special” or “unique” to the items to make them worth the price (like a special...
Read moreI frequent The Sugar Shaker about once a week. Most experiences have been pleasant. I have noticed lately when I go in/or go to the drive thru, that the staff is slow to acknowledge or to get to me (even when it is slow) Whom I assume is the owner had her face in her tablet and didn't look up once to acknowledge a customer. Today I ordered an iced coffee, I am given a super weak Americano. I inquired and they state that is "their version" of an iced coffee. Well, if that is the case and you are the ONLY coffee shop in my vast experience of ordering all sorts of coffee drinks who decide to make an iced Americano in lieu of an iced coffee, you should ensure your staff communicates that with your patrons. So beware if you don't order a "cold brew" and say an iced coffee, the staff will be very unwilling to correct this for you. I was told they would have to charge me for another drink. I said I would just keep my drink (by the way a medium Americano should really have more espresso...it was SO watered down) they begrudgingly made me a cold brew and took back my "Americano". This was my last visit to this establishment. The cost of the drink and the tip I give on a consistent basis do not warrant the lack of customer service. So I will vote with my dollar and go to any of the other great and friendly staffed coffee...
Read moreI stop at this restaurant for breakfast once or twice a week. The drive through can take a bit longer but I feel that the staff does a good job of keeping it moving even on food orders. The Not So Plain Jane breakfast sandwich is absolutely epic. Honestly not even sure if I ever got anything else but I’m sure it would be good. Pricing is average to slightly above average but you get what you pay for-good food and a smile from a friendly staff member. Keep up the good work!
If they would get an app or even take phone calls for call ahead orders, this place would...
