Nice Place, all cabins are located on both sides of a main parking area.
this stay was totally a last minute decision, luckily there was a cabin open, and I got a good price.
the cabin we had was nice, the outside looked good, the inside was fabulous. it had 1 big bed, and a bunk bed. a nice kitchen area that was stocked with Kitchenware. a tv with lots of channels, the shower was nice looking, the decorations in the cabin were a good touch. My only real complaint is that the Wi-Fi didn't work hardly at all, I don't know where the 2 Wi-Fi routers are located in the area, but we were right next to the main office and still the signal was bad. My father also wasn't pleased with the Cell Phone coverage, he had to go outside to use the phone.
this place could use a few things to make it great. Bad: nobody is in the office, and there is no change machine or soap vending machine in the laundry room.
A stronger Wi-Fi router, or maybe 2 more to spread out the signal to just a cabin or two.
The town of Nauvoo is Completely dead on Sundays, we wandered around and took a few pictures, but as for food, we had to go to the local gas station and get whatever.
Good: we arrived on a Sunday, and liked that they had written welcome Hansen Family on a board outside the door.
there is a museum at in the last cabin on the north side, it was pretty cool. looking from the outside it was good, but when you opened the door, it was amazing. there isn't an empty space anywhere. lots of amazing history. we only spent a short time in there as it was way to hot. looking at the items was great, but trying to take a picture of something you thought was cool is about impossible. all the frames and shadow boxes have shiny glass on the front. so you would have to try different angles, and the pic would still be blurry or reflecting you clothing.
If I lived there, I think I would ask for permission to take out 1 item a week or a month and replace the glass with non reflective type.
so a good place to spend a night or two, but...
Read moreHusband and I stayed in the Ferrin Cabin - perfect for two with a comfortable king bed. Decor was cute and welcoming. Husband has mobility concerns, so the low front step and walk-in shower were important features for us. We were the only people at the cabins during our stay, so it was super quiet. Really enjoyed having available laundry facilities to gear up for the next leg of our road trip. 5/5 for the entire stay. Highly recommend and would stay again in a heartbeat! Pros: convenient to historic Nauvoo and Nauvoo Temple -Comfortable bed and pillows -Kitchen with cookware, utensils, and plates (would have loved a pizza cutter, though ❤️) -AC during heat wave was very appreciated! (Also saw a small heater for colder months) -Satellite TV (Dish Network) and DVD player has plenty of options -Cozy bathroom with plenty of towels, washcloths, and small soaps/shampoos provided
"Pro tips for next stay": -Bring laundry supplies - including coins- if planning to do a few loads. Washers are standard top load, not oversized. $1/load (super reasonable!!) There is a nearby Dollar General to pick up laundry detergent/softener and we were able to exchange cash for coins at the Bank in town very easily. pack some tissues. pack a hair dryer. Dollar General has some great items, but if you want a larger grocery store, they are located just 20 mins or so across the river in Keokuk, Iowa. cabins are in a small rural town. Internet connection is free, but may experience some connectivity issues (and is not the fault of the owners). We luckily had great cell service and were able to use our phone hotspots for connectivity when needed. satellite TV will be influenced by weather. This is also not the owner's fault. Bring some books/games and enjoy the ambience of a...
Read moreMy family of 5 planned a trip to the Keokuk area to find geodes. Needing a place to stay for the weekend, we did a search in the general area from Fort Madison, IA to Warsaw, IL for a cabin to stay in. We found the Nauvoo Log Cabins. These cabins were not only centrally located, but also as affordable as they were cute! The kids (ages 6, 4, and 1) absolutely LOVED the unique and authentic feel of the cabin. I was a little apprehensive as these cabins are tightly placed on a small lot. There's not much outside space for the kids to run/play. Luckily for us, they were too wore out from all the adventures and sight seeing to play outside. At the time of booking, we were unfamiliar with Nauvoo or its historical attractions. For us, this was simply a place to stay that met our needs as far as affordability, location, comfort and style.
Onsite, in a small cabin, is a museum dedicated to the Mormonism history of the founder Joseph Smith and of the Latter Day Saints movement. This lead to a day filled with exploring and learning about the Mormon community's early lifestyle and Nauvoo as a frontier town of the mid 1800's. It was a great weekend vacation and the highlight was staying in the...
