Great room and furnishings for the price. King size in the bedroom and a nice size shower for everyone. Surprisingly comfortable sofa mattress. Nice mini kitchen.
My friends and I had not heard of this area of Michigan and Indiana before. We were told by locals throughout It’s a bunch of nice little tourist towns with little shops, boutiques, antique stores, eateries and breweries. From the little bit we got to see due to time this was accurate.
We went just before the fall color change on a quick furniture delivery errand. When you pull off the main road it looked like you enter into a woodland of nice houses, a beautiful public golf course, and then through a large gate into the grounds which are located within other neighboring houses in the area. It’s very secluded and inviting.
The beach is a bit confusing to get to and you can tell the neighbors behind the grounds are tired of telling guests where it is, but it is a secluded public area with private neighbors each side. The Lake Michigan here almost had an azure color and look of the Florida gulf. (Your head kept asking why there wasn’t any ocean salt in the air.) It’s very relaxing.
Back on the grounds the main house area has a snack kitchenette with free s’mores ingredients, small snacks and vending, and in the great room there were some relaxing conversation areas with a fireplace, a large table for eating, and some nice hanging reading/rocking chairs. There is also a public bathroom. I’m missing lots of details here as we didn’t get to stay long to look at things.
The basement has games as well as some outdoor areas with games, fire pits and conversation areas.
There is a pool heated to 90° which felt good with my hand. I didn’t get a chance to swim.
A manager there passing by in the great room was very nice and told us about the area and things to do. People are very nice and jovial around here in general. All the businesses are proud of their area and love to give you recommendations for things and fun little historical details and anecdotes.
The property grounds are a great area for relaxing, lazily walking the grounds, biking, or having some beers or wine with friends by a fire.
The whole town is charming and will make you feel like you’re in an instagram video or a Hallmark movie. It’s a mix of socioeconomic levels with some money for sure but even the modest areas look like they take pride for the most part and would definitely have great food and shopping finds if we would have had more time here.
It was a great, pleasant trip that felt like a few days of relaxing here would slow you down and let your body recharge for a while before heading back to work. We did go a time of year that wasn’t busy (right after people were leaving to go back home from the long weekend), so it may be different with lots of guests.
We are definitely going to return. We saw the other nearby property by this company and may try to do that one this next time. It looked very charming in its own way from this location, but we bet it will be equally...
Read moreWe had a wonderful stay at this hotel! Beautiful views, quite and peaceful, nice walking trail to Grand Beach (check for signs, a lot of private property entrances to avoid), complimentary s’mores provided in room by hotel- kids loved this! We had a stocked room with basic essentials- shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, cleaning supplies. Plenty of bath and pool towels! Kitchen had a decent supply of basic cooking items- oil, S&P, dishes, pan, bowl, etc. Beds were very comfortable and smelled amazing, not like your traditional hotel room sheets. Overall, the room was very cozy, clean and felt like a home away from home. I love that they use a lot of natural cleaners, seem to be very environmentally friendly. Guests also have complimentary use of the laundry room, definitely came in handy during our stay. Restaurants and grocery stores are about a 20 min drive- some local markets are a bit closer. I had to communicate with staff throughout our trip and they are very helpful and responsive via texts. We will definitely plan another trip out here, it was one of our favorite...
Read moreI spent the weekend at The Neighborhood Hotel with a few others for a ski trip, and it was hands down one of the best "hotel" stays ever. Calling it a hotel doesn't do it justice, since everything about the place is just the opposite of what comes to mind with that word. This place has the quaint style of a country cottage mixed with all the modern amenities you'd expect at a 3-star or better traditional hotel. Our suite had a full living room with flat panel TV, decked out kitchen with fridge/stove/microwave, dual bathrooms, and 3 distinct bedrooms. It was so hard to get up in the morning since the bed was beyond comfortable. The location has a large common room that was welcoming with a large fireplace, lounge chairs, and a communal kitchen with coffee & drinks and tons of complimentary snacks. And I can't forget to mention that the WiFi doesn't STINK like at most other hotels, if that matters to you. We're already planning a return trip in the Spring for some day hiking at the state parks, and won't be staying anywhere else. Kudos to the owners for having a GEM...
