AmeriVu Inn and Suites - New Richmond — Hotel in New Richmond

Upon checking in I informed the front staff that I have a service dog.  The front desk guy went and got the manager  who said that I need to present papers.  I explained I do not have his certificate on me however according to the ADA I do not have to have papers. He said that's their rule and what they will tell you but we require papers.  I specifically said  "So you are going against federal law?" And he said yes. I then picked up my phone and called the ADA while still standing at the front desk. They were closed for the evening already but I explained that I will be reporting them to the ADA. He then said that we could stay as long as he remained kenneled. I said he is my sons service dog and will not be kenneled when my son needs him. He responded asking why the animal would be needed to perform his job when I will be in the room and can do it-which asking such a question is also illegal.  In the end they agreed to give us the room if I agreed to bring the kennel in. The entire check in process continued with rude and illegal comments about our service dog. As I was going out to retrieve my children and service dog he said "and the animal cannot go in the breakfast room" which is also illegal to deny that accessibility. I wish I could say that the rest of our stay was better however we booked a room with two queen beds and got two double beds. There was only one full size towel in the room. The shower had a used bar of soap in it like it hadn't been cleaned since the previous guest. There was something sticky on the tv stand/dresser so that also hadn't been washed. Several areas throughout the bathroom and room had peeling paint for example where the shower curtain had been replaced but the repair hadn't been completed. We took a chance booking in at the Amerivu - we saw the low rating but then read the reviews that things were changing now that new owners have taken over. We are so glad we stayed here!! Every person that took care of the front desk was so helpful and they were willing to do whatever they could to make your stay comfortable. They say 'Welcome Home' when you come back each night, and we truly did feel like they made it feel like a home away from home. The pool and hot tub area is really nice - they even included pool toys for the kids. The breakfast is a great continental breakfast, we never went away hungry. Everything was very clean when we checked in and they gave us the option of cleaning our room while we were staying there, but we declined the service. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding/towels were very high quality and soft. The customer service was top notch and the rooms were quiet and comfortable. If you can, stay in the honeymoon/Jacuzzi room - the view from the balcony is awesome and the room is so large and spacious. The new owners are remodeling the rooms, but this is a lot of work and since they just took over in Dec not everything has been completed yet - don't let this dissuade you from staying here though. Tom, Lisa and their family are working hard each day to get things to the way it should be. If you stay here, you definitely won't regret it.
