Avoid it (and Agoda) as much as you can! • I booked a room at Sleep Inn JFK through Agoda but had my booking changed to another hotel (Comfort Inn JFK) without my agreement and without previous notice. Both Sleep Inn and Comfort Inn belong to the Choice Hotels chain. • The receptionist at Sleep Inn JFK knew from the beginning that I had been moved to Comfort Inn JFK. Instead of being upfront however, he was really rude and devious. He first tried to sell us another room, claiming that he had no booking. Then, once I showed him a copy of the booking from Agoda, he made me (unnecessarily) call Agoda to try to find out what was going on. • Without much choice, I did what he asked and called Agoda (note: I was with my wife and my 10-year old grandson who was about to board a plane overseas in less than 2 hours – I was in NY that evening just to fetch him to JFK - I booked Sleep Inn JFK in JFK’s neighborhood as I was also flying out early next morning) • Agoda did not know about the issue and asked time to check and call me back. The clock was ticking for my grandson to board his plane. • After ~30 minutes (that seemed like an eternity), the receptionist at Sleep Inn JFK finally told us that he knew what the issue was. He said I should go to Comfort Inn JFK and that our booking was there now. • We rushed to Comfort Inn JFK by foot through a dangerous neighborhood in the evening. Imagine two people on their high 50s and 1 kid, carrying 5 bags, two of which were quite large and heavy, running through that neighborhood late in the day. • We got to Comfort Inn JFK totally sweaty. We had planned for our grandson to take a quick shower before boarding his very long international flight. Instead, all we could do after checking in was to drop 2 of the bags in the room and rush him to the airport (with the 2 large bags and a smaller one). On a positive note, at least the receptionist at Comfort Inn was nice. • Our grandson almost missed his flight. • When we got back to Comfort Inn JFK later that evening, we found out that it was the worst hotel we stayed in our lives (and we have traveled quite a lot, many times in more inhospitable areas of the world). The bed was broken to the point that, while laying down on it, our feet would stay in a level above our heads, with an even deeper level around our torsos. • We were so tired however that, instead of complaining or moving out, we decided to stay there. It was late, around 10 PM, and we had to leave by 5 AM next morning. If we were to move out, we would probably sleep even less that night. • Sleeping in Comfort Inn JFK however was almost impossible. The hotel was dirty, the room was noisy and the bed, as explained above, was a nightmare. We barely slept at all. • The room’s bathroom was so dirty that we left it without using the shower and brushed our teeth with the mineral water we bought at JFK after fetching our grandson. • In summary, a...
Read moreThe lamps by the bedside were not working. I went more than 4 times to the front desk to ask for assistance. I asked if they could at least give me a flash light or provide me with a floor lamp. I was told that nothing could be done until the next day. I have a heart monitor. I asked if they could transfered me to another room. They did not offer any accomodation. I explained that if my heart monitor goes off, I will not have enough time to go to the bathroom for light. (The bathroom light worked). I asked the front desk staff to call the manager. I even showed her my heart monitor that I had on and explained how it worked. It was a horrible experience. The manager asked her to tell me to sit and wait. This is after I have travelled 6 hours and already waited 2 hours. A gentleman in the lobby overheard my situation and offered to give me one lamp from his room.I don't even know him. How can a stranger offer to assist me when staff keeps saying there is nothing that can be done when you can clearly see my heart monitor on. Also there was dust in the room. With my health issue I had to start wiping things down, before going to sleep. The toilet paper holder was broken, so the toilet paper was on the sink. The walls had skittle marks, like a child had used crayons on them. This could have been easily wiped down. The bed skirt on the bed next to the A/C is torn and dirty. The shower water only stopped at Luke warm.
On the other hand, the bathroom was clean, the towels were clean, the coffee maker worked, the TV had one channel the kept freezing but it worked. But this was not important to me. I just needed light bulbs so that incase I need to charge my heart monitor, I do not need to walk in the dark. But nobody cared. I was told to wait until the next day at 11am when the maintenance staff would come in. If anybody knows who that stranger is who assisted me. Please thank him for me. You need more courtesy and humanity to...
Read moreI’m really sorry to share my experience at this hotel, as I had high hopes for my stay. This is my second time booking here, and my first visit didn’t start off well either. Just five minutes after checking in, I discovered that the wifi code wasn’t working. When I approached the front desk, the lady kindly tried to help but unfortunately, it didn’t work for her either, and I ended up without wifi for the entire stay.
Yesterday was my birthday, and I was looking forward to a relaxing time, but it ended up being quite disappointing. Upon arriving at my room, I noticed there was only one nightstand, which felt a bit off. I tried to turn on the TV, but when my friend arrived, I left the room and returned about five hours later to find the TV still off. I checked behind it and saw it wasn’t plugged in. After plugging it in, I could only access four sports channels and two news channels.
I went to the front desk for assistance, and while the woman there assured me someone would come, it took about twenty minutes. When the gentleman arrived, he seemed frustrated as he scanned through the channels, and when the screen remained black, he informed me that only three channels worked. I mentioned that I had been in the room earlier and didn’t experience any issues. Unfortunately, he responded with an attitude, and I didn’t want to argue, especially since it was already 1 am.
To top it off, this morning I tried to turn on a lamp, and it just slipped from my hand. I know that things can sometimes go wrong, but it’s disheartening when it happens during such an important occasion. I hope my feedback can lead to improvements for...
