Avoid it as much as you can! • I booked a room at Sleep Inn JFK through Agoda but had my booking changed to another hotel (Comfort Inn JFK) without my agreement and without previous notice. Both Sleep Inn and Comfort Inn belong to the Choice Hotels chain. • The receptionist at Sleep Inn JFK knew from the beginning that I had been moved to Comfort Inn JFK. Instead of being upfront however, he was really rude and devious. He first tried to sell us another room, claiming that he had no booking. Then, once I showed him a copy of the booking from Agoda, he made me (unnecessarily) call Agoda to try to find out what was going on. • Without much choice, I did what he asked and called Agoda (note: I was with my wife and my 10-year old grandson who was about to board a plane overseas in less than 2 hours – I was in NY that evening just to fetch him to JFK - I booked Sleep Inn JFK in JFK’s neighborhood as I was also flying out early next morning) • Agoda did not know about the issue and asked time to check and call me back. The clock was ticking for my grandson to board his plane. • After ~30 minutes (that seemed like an eternity), the receptionist at Sleep Inn JFK finally told us that he knew what the issue was. He said I should go to Comfort Inn JFK and that our booking was there now. • We rushed to Comfort Inn JFK by foot through a dangerous neighborhood in the evening. Imagine two people on their high 50s and 1 kid, carrying 5 bags, two of which were quite large and heavy, running through that neighborhood late in the day. • We got to Comfort Inn JFK totally sweaty. We had planned for our grandson to take a quick shower before boarding his very long international flight. Instead, all we could do after checking in was to drop 2 of the bags in the room and rush him to the airport (with the 2 large bags and a smaller one). • Our grandson almost missed his flight. • When we got back to Comfort Inn JFK later that evening, we found out that it was the worst hotel we stayed in our lives (and we have travelled quite a lot, many times in more unhospitable areas of the world). The bed was broken to the point that, while laying down on it, our feet would stay in a level above our heads, with an even deeper level around our torsos. • We were so tired however that, instead of complaining or moving out, we decided to stay there. It was late, around 10 PM, and we had to leave by 5 AM next morning. If we were to move out, we would probably sleep even less that night. • Sleeping in Comfort Inn JFK however was almost impossible. The hotel was dirty, the room was noisy and the bed, as explained above, was a nightmare. We barely slept at all. • The room’s bathroom was so dirty that we left it without using the shower and brushed our teeth with the mineral water we bought at JFK after fetching our grandson. • In summary, a...
Read more3rd stay at Sleep Inn JFK. When I read the more negative reviews I wonder if they are for the same hotel. We've found the rooms clean and comfortable every time. Rooms are small yes, it's an older property designed and maintained for short stays in and out of JFK. If you come to this hotel expecting triple the price Manhattan stylings, you are going to be disappointed. And parking is tight, many cars doubled up. Again, it's a very typical design for the times. We have had zero issues with parking. And it's FREE PARKING. The staff is very welcoming all the time. We had a fast check-in to our room. The WIFI was fast as well and stayed connected. We used the shuttle service again to meet an international arrival at JFK Terminal 1. The driver was courteous beyond need. The van is a bit beat up with alot of tough miles on it. But it's less than 10 minutes to anywhere at JFK. A couple hours later we called for retrieval back to the hotel and he was at Federal Circle (Designated pick-up spot) in less than 15 minutes. He insisted on helping with the bags, what a relief. Everything in the room worked well and the breakfast was more than adequate, fresh fruit, coffee, juices, cereal, pastries and more. We found the breakfast to be very consistent in our 3 stays here. Shame on me for not getting everybody's name. Chris at the PM Front Desk, the drivers, the housekeepers are friendly and familiar faces. Our gratitude for easing our...
Read moreOne of the reasons I picked this hotel was the stay and fly program. Upon arrival we had to wait in a freezing lobby in order to be helped for about 10 minutes. The front desk person was trying to multitask which caused confusion and more waiting. We had to pick a time to be brought to the airport in order to make our flight that worked within the 30min time frame for the shuttle schedule. Which I understand to have a schedule is important but we were unable to enjoy the breakfast that was supposed to be included into the price of our hotel. So instead of the shuttle leaving at 6:15am to give us a few minutes to eat, we had to leave at 6am. Our plane landed at 9p. I followed the procedures given to me by the front desk person. At 9:33pm I made the phone call to the hotel to come get us. We did NOT get picked up until 10:17!!!! Not only was it near 17degrees but the wind chill was terrible. I called three times within that time period and kept getting the same answer, 15 minutes!! When we were finally picked up. We had to walk through snow and ice to get to our car which was parked in the back of the building with no assistance or help. Then to make matters worse our car was covered in half inch ice and it took 15 minutes to thaw and scrape it. I feel that for what I paid for the convenience turned into a huge inconvenience. I would never recommend this hotel as a fly and...
