DO NOT STAY HERE! IT'S DISGUSTING AND THEY STEAL YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!! This hotel should be SHUT DOWN for its low quality accommodations and FRAUD. The room was tiny and gross (there was hardly room to walk around the bed, the towels had big holes in them, the shower water was lukewarm, there were several burn marks on the tables). What's worse is they tried to STEAL MY MONEY TWICE. First, they tried to charge me $100 for my room after I had already paid for it through Hotwire. They lied to my face saying Hotwire never paid them. I called Hotwire who confirmed they paid the hotel already. Because I was asking for a refund in person at the time, they refunded my $100 BUT THEN AFTER I LEFT, they charged me another $90 and then refused to tell me what the charges were for over a period of two weeks of my calling again and again. Initially, the front desk lady said "I don't know what these charges are for." They refused to send me an email receipt for these $90 charges. They lied saying they had sent the receipt to the two different email addresses I provided (but the receipt never came nor was it found in my spam folder). I called and called and called this hotel for two weeks straight because the manager was mysteriously ALWAYS "not there" and NEVER called me back despite the front desk lady saying (again and again) they would give him the message. Finally, the manager who still did not have the decency to call me back personally, put his front desk lady up to calling me and telling me I received a refund for the $90. Less than 5 minutes later, they magically succeeded to send me an email receipt for the $0 I owed them, but still had never sent me an email receipt for the $90 which they STOLE BECAUSE IT WAS FRAUD. I filed separate claims with Hotwire and my bank because of this hotel's disgusting practice of stealing money from vulnerable travelers who may not be paying close attention to their debit or credit card statements, or who may try to get their money back from this wretched hotel and who eventually give up because the hotel staff lies to you repeatedly. DO. NOT. STAY. HERE. Do not believe these ridiculous 5 star reviews. Other reviewers reference fraudulent charges. Sunset Hotel staff are liars and thieves--front desk through management--all of them, and the hotel itself is disgusting. There are PLENTY of clean, well-managed low cost hotels in Brooklyn--save yourself and go there instead. Do not ignore...
Read moreThe hotel is near to the subway. If you really need a last minute place to crash, you will survive here.
If you read the reviews, every second one is payed for. That's the only explanation possible.
When you enter the hotel, the reception is behind a glass, and you immediately wonder if it is bulletproof. You can choose a smoking and a non-smoking room - which is a good warning sign of what awaits and personally I find it amazingly weird in year 2023 - and when we chose a non-smoking room, we had to wait for 15 minutes before it was prepared. Prepared... when you enter the room, a strong chemical wannabe-citrusy smell hits you in the nose and it never stops. We were in the basement room, had our window opened the whole night and were just worried about somebody entering through it, however without having it open we would not survive. The smell goes everywhere, it burned my nose and my respiratory system. All our stuff smells horribly and even when we come out to the street we smell it even from our skin. We can even taste it when we drink and eat.
The room and the hotel have seen better days. Dust all over, floor sticking to your feet, TV not working properly.
Reading the payed for reviews after being here would be humorous if it weren't creepy. The people are saying how it was the best hotel and best time of their lives. If it was true, I really feel deeply sorry for them, as they must've suffered horribly in their lives. If you are the one who wrote such a review without being payed and you truly believe what you have written, contact me. I would be more than happy to recommend much better accommodation, which will not poison you.
If the hotel saved the money from paying the reviewers and actually invested it into the building, it would be the best decision...
Read moreStayed here for one night as a business-comped room with my young son, and wouldn’t come back or recommend. Photos aren’t accurate. Was sketchy, felt unsafe, and seemed like a motel where illegal things take place. ||||Looked at three different rooms. All had painted-over windows, so we couldn’t see outside or get any light in - never have seen actual painted over windows in a hotel before! First room was below ground level, and not only were the windows painted over, but they slid open to the front street below ground level and were completely and totally unlocked - no lock mechanism whatsoever. Anyone off the street could have jumped over the small fence in front, slid open the doors, and climbed right into our room. Second room also had painted over windows and was occupied and smelled heavily of cigarette. Third room was above ground level and had windows that locked with a wood broom handle so we stayed. The shower however actually showered outside of the stall into the point it created a slippery pond in the bathroom and hallway. We had to call maintenance at 10pm to fix it and bring more towels to mop it up. ||||Hotel is very dark. No light. Reeks of chemical air freshener or cigarettes. Check in area in lobby is behind plexiglass. The front desk clerk was pleasant. There is parking, but the alley to get to it is sooooo narrow it’s almost unavoidable to scrape the sides of your car even with mirrors folded in. Wouldn’t park a nice car there. Evidence of scraping was all along the walls and astroturf padding haphazardly installed as a buffer. ||||Seems like an ideal place to film a porno, bring a hooker, or complete a drug deal....
