The "Save Maimonides" event last night was tremendously impressive and not knowing how long the organizers had to pull it off this is a tough review to have to leave but it's emes. First of all, some of the wait staff was outstanding, obviously hustling from the kitchen to get the hot food out to the guests quickly and courteously. The problem is one of the waiters, with his gloved hand, took a chicken nugget, popped it in his mouth, and had a surly attitude all night like it was beneath him to be serving all the black hat chusids, yeshivish, etc. who were the guests. This guy shouldn't be working food service ever, never mind in an era when political and public health alter kackers are claiming a public health emergency. Many of the young men behind the serving line shared this guy's attitude, some bordering on outright hostility.
Secondly, the event was very well attended. Maybe a thousand? Problem is the Fire Marshall's limit is just under 900 and the Shomrim who showed up either were asked or took it upon themselves to block off the stairway exit, leaving only the small elevator available as egress from the basement had, chas v'shalom, a crisis broken out in the hall. For someone coming from out of town directly to a wedding, the coat room clerk was an added bonus for me, to hold my belongings. As in all big city wedding halls, the minute you stand up, your food disappears, and a minute later you return and you have a fresh entree, as if no one has ever sat there. Once in a while, your entire table will just disappear!...

So if you're looking for parking? Don't forget what Marty Markowitz (one of the great Borough Presidents) used to say......
