We just returned from our week long vacation on Oahu and I really wanted to leave this review. The hosts would get a total of 5 stars for being so attentive and informative. We had no issues finding the location, checking in and we were communicated with a lot. However the location of the condo was not what we had hoped for for our weeklong vacation to a tropical island. We started our trip at Pat's at Punalu'u but after three nights we made the choice to go elsewhere. Here is why: We are a family of four with 2 teenage girls. We were looking for an ocean front place to stay and Pat's place fit the bill on that exactly. We were oceanfront and the view was lovely, however we were in a unit that is tucked into a corner which limited our view to the ocean looking directly out only - looking south we looked right into a neighbor's condo. The condo was as described on the website - photos were very accurate. The hosts have done an amazing job of stocking the condo and making their guests feel welcome - we stayed in the unit called "New! Beachfront Condo" it is a 1 bedroom condo. They have absolutely made the most out of the small space. The single bedroom fits only the bunk bed and the second sleeping arrangements would be in the main living area. The Murphy bed is a pull out mattress that leaves you on the floor or you can choose to stay on one of the two folding down futons (so again, they have done their best to accommodate multiple sleeping arrangements) The downsides that are not in the reviews I read prior to booking: The street noise is very noticeable from the bedroom side of the condo so be sure to bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The East side of the island is the windy/rainy side of the island (which I knew in advance) just be aware that the wind and ocean will also give off a bit of noise (much more pleasant than the road noise but still fairly loud at night). We also stayed during their construction season and while our view wasn't blocked the construction noise was a loud jackhammer kind of noise which made beach time undesirable. Staying on the East side of the island we got sun rises but no sunsets (again we knew that prior to booking) The beach itself is very narrow and is not accommodating to "hanging out on the beach" however it is very private with no crowds whatsoever. The biggest downfall that left us checking out early has to do with the lack of close activities. The condo is located at least 30-45 minutes away from any community that boasts great restaurants, shopping, or water activities. We found ourselves leaving the condo in the morning and not coming back until the evening which just got exhausting. If you are looking for a private/secluded/self-serviced place to stay then this place would work for you. If you are wanting to do any sort of activities, or eat out/shop, you will have to drive 30-45 minutes each time. This review is not meant to leave any negative remarks to the hosts or to the condo - only to give additional information for guests considering the location of where the...
Read moreMade a reservation using Prime Hawaii for a beachfront corner unit at Pat's and upon arrival saw it was not the unit I paid for; it was tiny and should not be rented for six people. Also was charged for the unit I reserved, not the tiny one (was partially refunded). After a scramble, I was provided a unit at a different complex, away from the beach with no lanai.
This condo had a window unit air conditioner in the main floor bedroom and a nicer, more efficient floor unit upstairs. In spite of two air conditioners and trying multiple configurations (living room window cracked, fans in different places, etc.), the kitchen and living room remained very hot. Oddly enough, the upstairs was cooler than the main floor. The main bedroom kept cool. The standing fans moved very little air and I would recommend getting fans that actually work.
There were fresh flowers on the coffee table and dining table when we got there, which were a lovely touch and on such short notice, too. The soap, shampoo, and conditioner were nice to have ready to go, but there definitely wasn't enough toilet paper for six people staying a week (single ply? We're not wrapping presents here!), but we had enough from a previous stay at a different place so didn't need to ask for more. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. It does not have a dishwasher.
The unit was clean, which was a relief as we'd stayed in a few, on this trip, that were downright disgusting.
Would be nice to have more beach items; chairs, umbrella, etc., but the boogie boards were a blast!
I would recommend calling for a reservation and not using their website, as it was being glitchy when I made my reservation and believe it was the cause of the problem.
All in all, and in spite of them doing what they could to rectify the situation, I would not use this rental company again. I'm not a huge fan of Vrbo as they don't seem to have a quality control standard, but many units this company lists are on that site (or Airbnb) and I've never had a problem with the reservation system there.
I'd like to thank the staff for all their efforts but it really took the wind out of my sails for a once in a lifetime trip to...
Read moreThis condo was the perfect size for our family of 4 for a whole week stay . We drove a Nissan Murano and The parking was easy to get in and out of . Was tight here and there , but we would usually back out and load the kids in , to avoid car door dings . But still had our parking spot to ourselves thru out the entire stay . No issues there at all . To get inside the condo , very easy and simple step by step instructions with codes was messaged from the host a week before the stay . 24 hours before the stay was the code to the front door . The 4th floor balcony view - AMAZING . WASHER AND DRYER IN THE UNIT ! Totally worth it with children especially . Host provides Tide pods enough for the stay , but if you do laundry more often , I suggest purchasing a small amount . AC units in the bedroom and by the balcony sliding door . Kept us cool at night . We never stayed inside all day , so can’t give too much info on the construction noise level . And that didn’t bug us at all . Closet is FULL with beach gear . Kids appreciated all the options they had to play with . The bedroom has bunk beds and my kids loved that . We slept on the Murphy bed all week . Had decent sleep thru out the entire stay . Our time is 3 hours ahead of Hawai’i , so our internal clocks would wake us at 5am (Hawaii time ) . It was perfect time to have morning coffee on the private balcony and watch the sunrise . Turtles were washed up on shore every morning , so that was such a treat to see every day . The distance from our condo to the beach was my favorite . So easy and fast to get to , especially with a toddler . 2 mins literally . Def worth the stay , if you want to be away from all the noise of popular area like - Waikiki . Fully loaded utensils and cooking ware in the kitchen - BRING YOUR OWN COFFEE . They have a standard coffee machine and a Keurig . We did grocery shopping at Foodland ( is near by , maybe 20 mins drive ) and Walmart ( Waikiki area - 50 mins away ) before coming back to the condo . All in all 5...
