Tequila Grill Ottumwa — Restaurant in Ottumwa

Like another rating said I do not like giving bad reviews to any business.... BUT this one is as a WARNING!!! We went in tonight for dinner after someone recommended this place... BIG mistake! First of all we pulled up out front and the open sign was not on, we went in and they were open... We were lead to a table, (or a freezer one might say it had a direct draft from the blocked door and it is -5 outside).... My husband could not take off his coat to eat. We ordered off the dinner combo menu, the waiter said we could order off the lunch menu and save a dollar sounds good to us (it was just before 4pm). He ordered 2 enchiladas and I a chimichunga... His was eatable, mine was cold in the middle (it is s deep fried burrito? Not sure how they managed it) tried telling the waiter it was cold I got a nod and smile as he walked away. So when he came back I asked to reorder a chicken fajitas style meal when it came out it had a slimey white sauce on it, and yep... Cold... 🙁 he took it back to the kitchen,when he brought it back (round 3) they had scraped off the sauce and sent it back out (plate still had all the white sauce now dried on the side and bottom of the plate) Are you KIDDING me?? And the chicken was re-cooked so now it is beyond dried out! Could not eat either meal.... Then let's get to the check.... The lunch meal that was a dollar less we were charged $1.95 more for (the check actually said "after hours charge") and we were ordering off the dinner menu, the waiter said to order off the lunch menu to save a dollar.... Upon arrival we were sat in a crammed space too close to the windows. The waiter took a while to get around to our orders while other tables were getting their orders placed. We saw our waiter running food to other tables across the restaurant while we waiting for him to take our order. After I received the WRONG order, my mother and I asked him to remake it because I did not want queso on my food. He asks if I saw that my order had listed it came with queso ontop. I told him no it was not listed, can you fix it? He says yes and as about 20 minutes goes by, he comes back without my food. AND shows me the menu and points to where it had queso. Yes I was wrong- does not excuse him for BRINGING THE MENU TO PROVE HIS POINT. That is just rude, uncalled for and just inappropriate for a server. Truly so pathetic he had to prove to me he was in the right. My family had finished their food while mine came out barely warm. This dude deserved no tip and as for my family’s bad experience. We won’t be coming back next time they’re in town. Btw he never brought out the check. We had to go ask someone at the check out counter for our bill. Today was my first trip to Tequila Grill in Ottumwa, Iowa. I went for lunch with my daughter in law, Sierra. She had been there before and wanted me to try it. I don't get to the big city very often, I prefer small towns. I will definitely be making another trip sometime soon to have lunch here again, even though I am an hour away. We were met at the door by a clean, well groomed, smiling waiter. I felt immediately welcome. He brought chips and salsa with menus right away. The only thing I could recommend is that they need some new menus, they have been very well seasoned by their many customers. We ordered a burrito and fajitas . Within 10 minutes of ordering we had hot food in front of us. Food was fresh, delicious and plentiful. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing, even at prime lunch hour. I must say, I have not seen a waiter like this for a long time. All my needs were met and questions about the menu were answered . I liked the openness of the restaurant and the casual furnishings. Prices on the menu were very reasonable, so that everyone could afford a nice meal. I also enjoyed the Mexican music piped in. This would be a great place to hang out. I would mark it , as one of...
