Not quite sure how to review this place. Only stayed one night as a jumping off point for visit to Death Valley. This is an excellent location for entering the park from the south. Shoshone is basically a mining ghost town. The office staff are not there overnight and live 20 miles away in Pahrump as does the restaurant staff. The lock on our room's door was barely operable and there wasn't a deadbolt lock. No Wi-Fi or cell phone service. Only a pay phone (yes, an actual payphone) across the street. The US Post Office had a note indicating it was closed due to vandalism. All this left us feeling a bit insecure. Didn't do the pool as we didn't really want to swim in 80+ degree water when it was over 90 degrees outside when we were there. They admitted that they had turned on the air conditioner right before we got there (probably to save money) and the room never cooled down. We roasted in that west-facing metal-roofed hot house all evening and well into the night because of that - we felt that was irresponsible on their part during an excessive heat warning. Also, no ice machine on the premises - had to ask them for a zip-lock bag of ice at check-in or buy a bag at the store next door. Saw what may have been a roach in the bathroom in the morning. The waitress at the restaurant/bar across the street was very nice but the beer was luke warm. We didn't eat there as we had leftovers from lunch with us. The store was basically a typical stop-and-rob. We were there right as the CA Covid restrictions were being lifted, but it sure felt as though this place had seen its prime some time ago. Maybe it's busier when the weather is cooler. I guess it was an okay place to stay, but know what you're...
Read moreWARNING!!! We did get our money back but please read... They Charged us $500.00 claiming we smoked in that room when we did not we had to call and talk with Susan. This was an outright lie and we will keep on this because you just took our money and we had to go through this horrible experience to get a refund. They charged our CC $500.00 because we picked up cigarette buts that were outside and put them in the garbage in the room and that is my guess as to why they assumed we smoked in their room. We clean up and do things such as this all the time because people leave cigarette butts on the ground. Whoever is in charge will be repremanded. And if anything YOU OWE us a clean up fee since no one there is doing it! I will not allow you to treat people this way! We come here because there is a lot of conservation work being done well get eco and start cleaning up cigarette butts outside then and reading reviews here and talking with people if someone IS a smoker their clothes WILL smell of it. You can not just charge people for that. Just because their clothes smell does not mean they smoked in the room. Respect all and HAVE a smoking room then like other hotels/motels do. We will not be staying here again so no more $$ for you we do not appreciate or need this stress and harassment. And we did YOU a favor by cleaning up outside. BTW You really need to clean up the broken bottles and glass outside too as I will not do that for anyone. And the broken bottles and glass is right outside the office! Right outside and you can't see that? We will NOT be staying with you again after what you...
Read moreUPDATE: Stayed in a different room this time in the main building of the Inn. A much better experience than the last visit a few weeks earlier. This King Bed w/kitchenette room was much nicer, with better security door lock system and clean. If you have a choice, stay in the main Inn building â youâre also much closer to the office and firepit (at night). Again, the staff is always friendly and helpful so no complaints there. Added new photos of the latest room, which I would give "4 stars."
Well, this is a tough one to rate. We have stayed here several times now and have always enjoyed this location and the staff at the front desk. This stay was really no exception, but I must be honest in our experience this time around. First, the staff is always polite, friendly, and helpful. They do offer you bagels, fruit, yogurt, and coffee for breakfast snack inside the front office. While the rooms are very large and have all the standard amenities, the house cleaning could be improved upon. See photos, refrigerator was covered in dust, the drawers had dead bugs in them and the door sill to the room had a large space/gap that almost anything could crawl under. Would we stay here again â the answer is yes, but you really do not have much of an option since it is the only inn in town. We do like this place and only hope they can improve on the housekeeping, which would make this an even better...
