Let me just say, this place is AWESOME! Definitely a must stop especially if you're passing through on your way into Death Valley. The food here is excellent, the service even better and super friendly and what can I say, they have beer, whiskey and more at the bar! While they do have a cafe style restaurant section on the north side of the building, we chose to dine and imbibe on the saloon side and at the bar and mainly because it's way more fun. On our last visit, my wife got their grilled cheese sandwich, our friends got a cheese burger and I got a BLT that was outstanding. I mean really, the bacon was cooked perfectly and it was simply delicious. While I got potato salad that was just as good, everyone else got fries which were nice and hot out of the frier and we had a Stella to wash it all down. Of course, the atmosphere of the place is exactly what you'd expect to find out in the desert and it's perfect. And, I should note that they made some nice improvements to the inside since our last visit about a year ago and even the restrooms have been updated. I would highly recommend you visit this establishment if only to see how cool it is. Be sure to read up on the history of this place and check out all the cool stuff...
Read moreAs a solo, woman traveler I was looking forward to some great food and a cold beer after exploring Death Valley on Saturday. As I walked in, the bar was covered with plastic wrapped items as if the food line was being broken down with no where to sit. I inquired about what time they close, and the woman said "I don't know what time it is," (punched the computer) and stated "in an hour". She asked how many and I said "just me". She refused to look me in the eye, or even acknowledge me after that point. While I waited for her to service her other tables, I peeked outside and she grumpily stated " You can't sit out there. Its too dark". It felt so hostile, that the other diners sheepishly smiled at me sympathetically. Then she asked to clear dishes from the other table again without addressing me, or at least offering me anywhere to sit. It's hard to imagine a solo male visitor being treated this way. You can do better to make all people feel welcome at your establishment. I certainly did not. I just left, and ate potato chips in my room, because that was the preferred option after dealing with the woman...
Read moreMe and a buddy stopped for lunch way back on October 2. We belong to motorcycle club that makes around four trips per year.
I vacated L.A. two years ago and got an awesome place in the Tehachapi mountains. So we started from Tehachapi, met the other riders in Barstow then continued to Beatty, NV.
Heading home on the 2nd (it was hot, real hot!), we stopped at the Crowbar for lunch and cold drinks. The food was excellent. My friend had a chili burger and I had a Mexican combination meal. The salsa was very good (as was everything else).
Our server was very attentive to our needs. I drank an entire pitcher of Coke by myself. It was sooo refreshing! The waitress was young, pretty and friendly. If passing thru, definitely stop for a great experience!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention how friendly the fellow diners were. These were locals and I talked ten, fifteen minutes with a couple of groups. To be honest, I didn't want to leave. But it was back on the motorcycles and back too the...
