We recently stayed at the Sand Dunes Resort on Singer Island in West Palm Beach. If you are accustomed to staying at swanky resorts, let me warn you; the name is a little misleading. The “resort” is a collection of timeshare condos with a modest sized pool and small hot tub. In my humble opinion, by the outer appearance, you would think more upscale motel than resort. Nonetheless, we had a great stay, especially since this was our first overnight trip since Covid started. ||||The resort is a slightly dated but a fairly well-maintained one, sandwiched between two opulent but seemingly empty resorts. The contrast allows you to appreciate what old Florida beach towns must have been like. In fact, the open rooftop on the 3-story building is a real classic throwback to simpler times. || ||Along the walkway from the hotel to the beach, there is a cute cabana area. I’m still slightly puzzled why anyone would use this area since the only views are of the other cabanas and the cabanas don’t even face the beach. ||||I loved the fact the resort has a small private beach that's a short walk down the path to the private beach. This was another plus in the age of Covid. It was a nice, quiet and calm beach. A great way to avoid the crowds. ||||The unit had a small but fully functional kitchen. I reviewed the sanitation information they provided and took my own additional precautions. (Lysol wipes, Lysol spray and prayers!) Knowing the unit had a kitchen, I packed some of my own seasonings, brought some food from home, placed an Instacart order and cooked most of our meals. It was a perfect way to balance out our concerns about eating at crowded restaurants and my husband appreciated the home cooked meals during the week. ||||Through the resort, you can use Tommy Bahama beach chairs and the costs is included with the cost of the rental. In addition to these, you can rent chairs and an umbrella on the beach for about $40 a day. It was a bit expensive but worth it to be able to enjoy a whole day at the beach. ||||Overall, we enjoyed the Sand Dunes. Two ways they could improve the resort is by improving the internet. I constantly got messages about moving closer no matter WHERE I was in the resort or in the room. That was...
Read moreWhen booking, it seemed like a quaint little place that we chose simply because it was on the beach and fit into our budget (meaning: we had very low expectations). We got a studio and it had everything we needed and more.||||We went to Gulf Shores, AL last year and paid a lot more money for a FAR inferior experience. The room here was very clean and comfortable. Neither of us had any issue with the murphy bed (we even brought an air mattress, just in case - never used it). Staff and other guests were incredibly friendly and the amenities are plentiful - they provide things I never would have thought to look for.||||Singer Island is not a very touristy place, which I didn't know before our stay. But I can't imagine a better location to stay. If all you're looking for is a beach with a couple restaurants and shops within walking distance, you could spend a week here and never get into a car and be perfectly happy. If you stay up late or wake up early, you may even get to see some baby sea turtles (haphazardly) making their way to the ocean.||||If you want to do a little adventuring, there are tons of things to do and see within a half-hour car ride. Jupiter/Juno beach is about 20 minutes north and we found ourselves there more than once. We drove a few hours one day up to Titusville to see the SpaceX launch. We even made a day-trip to Key West (though that's about 4-5 hours each way).||||I am looking forward to going back, and I will never stay anywhere else when travelling to the Palm Beach area. I've heard nothing but horror stories about time shares, but I'm actually considering it...
Read moreI almost don't want to leave this great review because Sand Dune Shores is a hidden gem we need to keep hidden! JK... wonderful staff. Great rooms. Very clean. Nice pool and hottub. Property is directly on beach and also very easy walking to shops, bars and restaurants. 2 women traveling alone yet felt extremely safe our entire stay and throughout the neighborhood even walking late at night. We had a 2 bedroom unit which was nice. The bathroom could use some updating but it was CLEAN so that's all that mattered to us. Glad I brought my own blanket since it was old fashioned bedspreads, but again everything was so very clean that didn't matter. Didn't see one kid the whole time we were there, but the units had plenty of space for kids if you wanna bring them along. Easy check-in. Easy check-out. I was nervous since I'm usually a 5-star large resort sorta gal but I REALLY LOVED the old-florida-mom-n-pop vibe of this clean wonderful gem. Thank you Karen and the rest of your team....
