Lake Ranch Resort is awesome! I want to give some details though, because everyone has a different idea of "awesome."
For my family it was awesome because: --prices were reasonable --they have a GREAT pool--there are 3 big windows in the side of the pool that you can take cool pictures from the other side of your kids in the water; also, the pool is big and goes from 3 to 9 feet deep; AND it's salt water, not chlorine, so much healthier --there's a fridge, toaster, and microwave, so we were able to save a lot of money by preparing our own food --they have high quality gas grills right on the water where you can grill--we grilled a whole bunch our first night and then ate leftovers for the next 2 days! --it's the kind of place where generations of families keep coming back--everyone is so nice, and it's literally where nobody locks their doors --location is great--about 1/2 mile walk to Lake Michigan beach; right on Lake Macatawa; General Store and several ice cream places nearby; 1 block away from good kayak/paddle board rental place --right across the street from Mt. Pisgah, which is a huge sand dune you can climb with a great view of the lighthouse and lakes
Now, let me share the possible negatives, depending on your personal preferences. None of these were issues for us, but it's best to know what you're signing up for:
--it's built in the 1950's, and the look of the property, sign, etc., shows it. The rooms themselves have been updated and are cutely decorated, but the outside definitely looks like a 1950s motel --the amenities are more like a rental unit than a hotel. They provided bar soap, nice bath towels (but not pool towels), hair dryer, coffee maker with filters, coffee, and powdered cream, dish soap, salt/pepper, paper towels, toilet paper, as well as all usual kitchenette things (plates, bowls, cutting board, cutting knives, flatware, cups, mugs, toaster, dish drying rack, etc. --the property is right on Lake Macatawa, but it's a small boat marina, so while the distant view is beautiful, the close up view is of small boats --the doors have a lift-up window in them, and the window is an old-fashioned glass slat one that slides open to allow in breeze--everything was so safe and everyone leaves their stuff out, doors unlocked, etc., so I never felt worried, but it's not state-of-the-art security (plus, the keys are actual KEYS)
Final thoughts: --the manager, Bill, is great and very helpful --this was a great experience for my husband, myself, and our 2 boys (ages 12 and 16)...there are people of all ages--some groups of only retirees, some families with teens, some with little kids. --they do have games to rent, a volleyball net, shuffleboard, and a club room to hang out in, but with COVID limitations, they weren't able to offer some of that --I would definitely...
Read moreWe (my wife and I) booked at Lake Ranch Resort through Airbnb for a last minute weekend trip to Holland, MI a couple of weeks back. Had no expectations for anything as we had never been anywhere on Lake Michigan before. I had a difficult time finding a place, as all the hotel rooms I searched were unavailable, so I turned to Airbnb. Wasn’t having much better luck until I came across this place.
The weekend couldn’t have turned out better. Check in was easy, the room, while small, had everything we needed and was very clean. By far the best part was the location. Less than a five minute drive to parking at Ottawa Beach. While it was a very busy beach, lots of family’s, it was very clean. Also, it was a nice walk to the beach from our room when not taking chairs etc. From talking to Rick at check in, discovered we lucked in to booking right after a cancellation. After spending the weekend there I knew how lucky we were to come across this place on such short notice. It’s a little petty, but the only complaint I had was not having ice on the premises. Ice was readily available at a nearby store, along with some good frozen treats. We will go back, and probably get one of their larger units.
“The Reservoir” restaurant was an easy walk from our place and we thought the food and service there was very good. We ate there both nights. I recommend the Lake Perch and the Tiramisu for desert.
We drove 10 minutes to “TheWindmill” for breakfast and found it to be well worth the drive. While the decor was dated the food and service were excellent and...
Read moreMy husband and I spent two nights at Lakeview Ranch right after Labor Day. We found the common areas (both indoor and outdoor) to be well-cared for and lovely. Sadly the weather was not on our side and we did not get to use the pool, but it looked very clean and inviting. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
I wish I could say something super nice about Room 10, but that would be an enormous stretch. I booked the room because the internet said it was recently renovated...we did not see one thing in the room that looked updated. People actually rated this room a 5 star. WHAT???? That is absolutely preposterous.
The bed is cheap and hard as a rock. When you lay in said bed you can see the filth under the kitchen floor kick splash. I needed to clean up a spill and the paper towel came up filthy dirty. The bathroom is horrid. The yellowed, cracked toilet paper holder does not hold the paper and is a prime example of the lack of attention to this unit. The shower tile outside the shower is horrific and we found hairs all over the inside shower walls. There is no place to sit. Walls are all very scuffed up. I think the little room/bathroom could actually be renovated into a darling, cozy and updated place to stay. Needless to say, we...
