I followed the highway signs to arrive at the Pella AmericInn, upon pulling into the parking lot I quickly assessed that the signs were out of date, the hotel we had pulled into was clearly abandoned, there were no cars in the parking lot, the landscaping was overgrown, it looked quite dilapidated. No question, just an out of date sign, I stopped for maybe 15 seconds, found a different address on google, and immediately left. It never even occurred to me that I might be at the correct address. Upon driving into town and pulling up outside someone's house I had the horrific realization that my first stop had in fact been the correct address. Upon entering the lobby we were greeted by dim lighting and one person manning the front desk in an otherwise completely empty space. The manager seemed nice enough, until she got to the point in her intro where she began lecturing us on the towels. Apparently, in her experience, most people are ignorant of the fact that white towels stain easily. Many do not realize this is where the majority of hotel surcharges originate. She was very insistent on pointing out that she provided a black make up towel and makeup remover towelettes for my wife, and seemed to feel she really needed to hammer down the incredible destructive properties of makeup when combined with her exquisite linens. Having traveled quite a bit, and stayed at many hotels, this is the first such lecture I've ever received, but my brain was still trying to weave an elaborate web of rationalization to put me at ease, perhaps she just bought some REALLY expensive towels, I mean who doesn't like nice towels? Surely this won't be TOO bad. After insisting that we both repeat the WiFi password to her (it's SUNNY, take that Gina, OpSec be damned), we were finally on our way to our room. We grabbed our bags and walked in the door closest to our first floor room. Upon entering the hallway we were greeted by the intense odor of lemon pledge and two apparent employees wearing what appeared to be nurse scrubs exiting one of the adjacent rooms to ours. Were they the cleaning staff? Were they...medical professionals operating out of a hotel room? The cleaning staff needs to wear scrubs? What are they cleaning? Is it a body? There were so many questions, none of them were putting me in a good place mentally. Even the thought of incredibly expensive towels couldn't put me at ease at this point. Upon entering our room the cleaning product odor came to an absolute crescendo. It was very dark so I reached for a light switch, I found the only one in the room, flipped it, and immediately realized it was not for an overhead light but instead for the jacuzzi that was placed right across the room from the bed. Makes sense. Who needs an overhead light when you have a bedroom jacuzzi? We turned on the assortment of floor lamps to try and shed some light on our hotel room/makeshift operating room/love nest/who knows what. It remained extremely dark, and as our noses adjusted to the lemon pledge odor an underlying smell that was somewhere between damp mold and urine started to permeate our senses. It was around this time that I stopped trying to convince my wife everything was fine and started trying to figure out our exit strategy. After 5 minutes of frantic googling I determined that my only option was to cancel our stay immediately and book the infinitely nicer hotel in downtown Pella. It should also be pointed out that after cancelling my trip the manager tried to charge me for my full stay. After being accused of lying about staying in her shack of terrors for four nights and repeatedly having my integrity brought into question I referred her to my credit card company's lawyers. I can only hope her extensive review of the "video tapes" will help her case against Capital One for trying to steal 450 dollars from me. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. If you're REALLY into terrible hotels or you're filming some sort of horror film, just please make sure you put the...
Read moreTo Whom It May Concern, 4/26/2014 My name is Yvonne Guido- Doyle and I was a guest at your hotel (AmericInn- Pella, In). I am writing you this letter to inform you of the horrific conditions in which me and my family were subjected to. My husband, 1 year old son, and I arrived (AmericInn) on 4/25/2014. We drove over five hours to get here, might I add. Immediately when we entered our room, (121), to be exact; my husband and I noticed a foul odor. It smelled like mildew or a dirty carpet. When I went to the front desk and explained the problem, the customer service rep, Jessica, advised me to ask the maid (she was polite) to fix it. The maid sprayed the room. Later on during the course of the day, we noticed layers of dust on the computer desk, on top and under the nightstands, the coffee pot was disgusting, there was a yellow ring around the whirlpool, and the filter had lint and little brown things in it. My husband and I both have breathing conditions by the way. Also, the phone wouldn’t dial out in order for us to order food. The TV didn’t work at first either. When we called the front desk, Jessica, sent a man to come fix it. We showed him the other problems and he had us transferred to another room. However our new room wasn’t that much cleaner than the first (dust was still on everything- but the tub was clean). The phone in the room didn’t dial out as well. Today 4/26/2014 was the tip of the iceberg. This morning, I called down to the front desk and asked if the maid would be able to clean our room, replenish towels, and throw out the garbage. Jessica said that housekeeping would take care of that and it wouldn’t be a problem. However, when we returned to the hotel 8.5 hours later, our room was still dirty, we didn’t have any clean towels, and the garbage was full. I had to go downstairs and get the towels myself. The front desk wasn’t able to do it in a timely fashion (she did have guest-but where were the other workers?). My husband had to go downstairs and lug the garbage to the front desk himself. When people come to hotels they expect to be provided with a clean room and the ability to relax. This hotel has provided us with neither. When I checked in our room, I had to sign something acknowledging guest rules and what my responsibilities are as a guest. However, what about the AmericInn’s responsibility to me as a paying guest? It cost us $232 to stay at this hotel. I feel like my husband and I paid people to mistreat us. We feel like we’ve been robbed of our hard earned money. By far, this is the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had. This hotel is terrible. I’m sending this letter to corporate, uploading this letter to yelp/google reviews, the other social media sites, and will be telling all of my family and friends about this horrific experience, in hopes that others do not come here and get robbed of their hard earned money like...
Read moreHere is what you really get when you stay at Americinn in Pella, Iowa. You get to deal with the dust from the construction of the owner updating the motel. And yes, I meant motel. See you will be expected to pay hotel prices for the service of a motel. Also don't tell them about the things they need to do to fix the hotel to make the service and quality of stay better. Why not you might be wondering. It's simple really they act like children and will be petty and find a way to cover up the truth. See I was given a choice because I left a review about problems with the hotel when my significant other worked there and the owner was using the cameras that are for security to spy on her. He called while I was standing there speaking to her for a short time so I could get the debt card to put fuel into my truck because at the time I didn't have money available. He proceeded to tell her that it didn't matter why I stopped in that I needed to go and that she was his servant. This was after updating their policy on visitors to 20 minutes minimum and I was there for about 15 minutes. The hotel is understaffed and the rooms are dirty. If you do stay be sure to take a closer look at where you will be sleeping. If you look at the floor and the furniture you will find just about anything. From food crumbs to fingernails and hair. I noticed on 3 separate occasions that there were roaches crawling around as well. He owner is trying to pocket as much profits as possible and runs the hotel with minimal staff. He doesn't care about anyone but his own wallet and how fat he can make it. He demanded my lady to go out and shovel the snow while she was 6 months pregnant and has had her checking chemical levels for the pool. The food is low quality and is often cold and sometimes is raw. The beers are literally poor quality and marked up to a mid quality draft beer. And don't even get me started about their wine selection. The pool is closed due to construction and they refuse to post anywhere that they are remodeling. There have been multiple times where I personally have witnessed people trying to get refunds and the manager telling the staff that they don't due refunds if you have arrived already. This is a ploy he does to try and keep money...
