I loved this hotel. The room was very well styled, EXTREMELY QUIET, very private, and had a magnificent view of the sports complex!
The staff was all very kind and helpful, with great demeanor. No complaints about the front desk, the bistro staff, or the room attendants.
The location was so close to the sports complex, that we ended up walking over there and back for some games. It was also right on the Navy Yard, and we took a beautiful walk over there to see the ships! There are some nice historic attractions within walking distance as well, and a very well equipped park for play or relaxing.
There isn't much for a celiac to eat around there, and certainly nowhere that is close enough for Uber eats. The bistro in the hotel has some options, but they aren't prepared safely for a celiac so I had to limit myself.
Not having breakfast included was a drawback, for my expectation of Marriott. I was able to order from their bistro, which was extra, and didn't have much for me to eat. Their eggs and bacon were good enough to get me going for the morning, but it really should have been included with the room.
Additionally, the parking was incredibly surprising. Lots of room in the parking lots surrounding the hotel, but you have to pay $25 PER NIGHT to park. I understand the parking not being free, but that is excessive. I paid $150 just in parking fees, and the lot wasn't even CLOSE to full, at any point. Maybe relax the fee a bit, for extended stays (more than 3 days)? That's astronomical.
Only elevators (2 in the whole building) are right next to each other. I understand why that makes sense. But the lobby is really far from the other side of the building. When a guest leaves the elevator, regardless of which floor, they have quite a walk ahead of them. We stayed in a great room, and I loved the location of it, but it was like a 5 minute walk from exiting the elevator to unlocking our room. For guests who are walking around the city on vacation, or have any kind of body pain/restriction, ask for a room close to the elevator.
One small thing that wasn't that important: our TV kept turning itself off randomly, or just blacking out the picture to a screen saver in the middle of a movie, but continue to play the sound. Never did get to the bottom of that. Like I said, not important. We didn't go there to watch TV.
Everything else is great. I would definitely stay...
Read moreWe normally stay at Marriotts when we travel, but tend to use the Residence Inns since we tend to stay for several days at a hotel. We chose this one to be close to the Navy Shipyard. Opting for the King Suite, I was surprised at how quiet our room was even though it was situated just above the Bistro, their restaurant. Fantastic shower, clean rooms, comfortable beds. Internet is free and fast. The Lobby is beautiful, and the staff is fantastic.
The hotel is in the middle of an expansion, so you can hear some construction, but it's on one side of the hotel; I would suggest asking for a room away from the noise. It's around 10 minutes with traffic from the airport, about 0.8 mile from the Philly subway. We did evening walks in safety; even saw a small collection of deer that apparently live in the area.
On the minus side, for some reason, we couldn't watch any TV; even with their satellite plan, the screens kept frizzing out. Refrigerators are ridiculously tiny and the coffeemaker was one of those inexpensive little one-pod things; instead of coffee cups we had paper cups, which seemed like penny-pinching since there was a pair of glass stemless wineglasses in the room.
We opted to try out the small restaurant in the hotel, the Bistro. I understand that it's a new venture and that the menu variety is really REALLY small, but the Vegetable Pasta dish I ordered and the Chicken Pot Pie ordered by my husband somehow took 20 minutes to reach our table (we were the ONLY ones there), both dishes looked as if they were forgotten in the oven and were burned on the top, and honestly, average in taste (though expensive at $11 a pop). We were hungry, having arrived at the hotel late, but hope that the next time we stay there, that there is either a change in the menu with a few more dishes, or the cook staff watches their food prep a teeny bit better.
All that being said, we will still return to this particular hotel mainly due to the location; the staff is fantastic and the rooms are quiet (even though the hotel is in the final approach of...
Read moreAttended a concert at Wells Fargo, it was an easy and safe 10-15 minute walk (take the side of S. Broad that runs alongside the park, it has a sidewalk the entire distance and a pedestrian crosswalk at the entrance to the sports complex). Thank you Maria at the front desk for the tip!
Speaking of Maria, she checked us in and noticed the request we made on our online reservation (directly through the hotel website) for a quiet 2 room king suite away from any possible construction/morning noise. She recommended we switch to a junior suite she had available on a very quiet end of the building. The new room wasn't going to be ready for 30-45 min, so Maria offered my husband & I complementary beverages and snacks of our choice while we waited in the very nice bistro/lobby area. Our junior suite was awesome! It was large, very functional, modern, clean and extremely quiet. Thank you Maria for looking out for us!
The bistro's menu is limited at closes at 10pm, but everything we had for breakfast and dinner was tasty. They have a nice variety of liquors, beers and wines at the bistro, and the market area near the front desk stays open until 2am for a variety of beverages (including adult) and snacks. The outdoor patio area and indoor lounge are really comfortable and fun.
Parking is free and with plenty of spaces and free internet comes with every room. It is a very secure and safe hotel.
Because the hotel is in the Navy Yard, there isn't really any restaurants/bars, shopping, etc. nearby, but the downtown is only a short drive away and the subway is close. After going through the gates of the Navy Yard at the end of S. Broad St., we had no trouble finding the hotel.
Everyone who works at the hotel made customer service their top priority and was very courteous and helpful during our stay. We will definitely book this hotel again for our next...
