Edit: added photos of the clean wash cloth I received .
I arrived on Thursday April the 4th. The afternoon front desk clerk, Justin, was fantastic but the night auditor barely acknowledged my existence and seemed disinterested in my presence. Later Justin informed me that the night auditor was his brother and that his brother was exhausted but not being rude to me.
In my room, the bathroom had hair in the sink and around the toilet. This was not an obscene amount, just some strays. This was not a big deal and was easy enough to clean up with one tissue.
The bathtub, toilet and sink were cleaned very well otherwise .The flooring, tile and carpet, were very clean and the baseboards were clean as well. The bed was very comfortable and I slept well, except when the person upstairs was noisy. That is on that guest though, not the hotel.
Since the guest above was very loud at one point and the night auditor seemed to not be the type to care much about a guest's experience enough to speak clearly and articulately to them, I doubted their ability to handle a noise complaint. So I found that calling the guest's room directly solved the noise problem. (You can call room to room at this location.)
The room was free of dust overall. The housekeeping staff were polite and professional when I spoke with them about what housekeeping services I needed. Just trash removal and clean towels. They did offer more services but I declined because anything more was unnecessary for my stay and a waste of their limited time. (Housekeepers work very hard at these locations! Tip them for a job well done folks. They get the minimum pay in most locations and do a lot of hard work to make your stay a positive one.)
The morning of April 5th, the front desk clerk commented sort of rudely and loudly enough for myself and other guests to hear, because other guests were complaining that breakfast was wiped out. She, the desk clerk, said breakfast was over at 9:30 am. This was at about ten- fifteen minutes after 9:00 am. Myself and the other guests understood this, but fifteen to twenty minutes before its closure is plenty of time to expect some popular items to be replenished. Finally at around 9:25 am the breakfast attendant put out some cinnamon rolls and half cooked bacon but nothing else.
Guests had to ask for coffee cups and the coffee was barely warm. So it clearly wasn't fresh. The pancake machine was not working properly and everything was bare bones. The breakfast attendant was walking around talking on his phone while working.
Half of the tables needed wiped down and overall this breakfast experience was extremely disappointing. This was the part of my stay that was the most disappointing and my expectations are at the low end of the bar
I ate a cinnamon roll and was drinking a cup of coffee when I was approached by the breakfast attendant. He was kind and spoke professionally to me when he asked if I wanted anything else before he shut the food warmers down.
What could I possibly want from this place but a better and cleaner breakfast experience? Overall if breakfast was more streamlined and the guests experience was more of a priority, this place would be perfect.
Also, the fitness center and pool were clean, and well maintained. The second morning I did not attend breakfast but the front desk clerk that morning was very...
Read moreNightmare of a situation this past weekend at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Fairmont. I coach a high school girls soccer team and had made reservations for a block of 9 rooms back at the beginning of July for our annual overnight trip that took place on Friday, August 25th. Worked with Warren to get the block reserved and paperwork completed. Our Athletic Director completed all the forms required and sent it back to the hotel, calling them after the fact to confirm everything was received. Warren advised him everything was taken care of, the block of rooms were reserved for us and nothing to worry about. I even spoke to Warren 2-3 weeks prior to arrival date and he assured me the rooms were reserved. Fast forward to August 25th, we arrived at the hotel after a long day of traveling (2 hour bus trip to our Friday evening game, then another hour trip to the hotel after the game). I was greeted at the front desk by Laura and when I told her we were checking in for our block of rooms, she advised me there was nothing in the system for our school/team. To say I was livid was an understatement. We had parents who had made reservations at the hotel as well, and now we are being told the block of rooms was nonexistent and unfortunately the hotel was completely SOLD OUT for the night. One of our mothers even called the hotel THAT MORNING, spoke to Warren to organize pizza delivery that evening for our girls for when we arrived at the hotel - Warren worked with her to have that done and when we walked into the hotel, pizza was ready and waiting. After going rounds trying to figure out what happened and why we were even in this situation, Laura (front desk) was able to find ALL OF THE COMPLETED PAPERWORK that I and our AD had submitted, only to be told that it was never put into the system to block the rooms!! So here we are with 23 teenage girls who had been traveling most of the day only to be told we have no rooms to check into (mind you, this was at 9:30PM). The only reason I am giving this review even 1 STAR is because of Laura at the front desk - I know none of this was her fault and after waiting awhile, she was able to get us into another, completely different hotel a few miles away. This should have never had to happen in the first place if the job was handled correctly to begin with. Extremely disappointed and disgusted with Holiday Inn...
Read moreThis was overall a very nice place to stay. Our room 305 was very clean with nice furnishings. The two queen beds each had four pillows and the mattresses were comfortable. ||There is a flat screen TV about 48” on the wall. They use Dish Network. They have a guide for about 45 channels but there are four channels listed which do not come on the screen when you tune in. Plenty of sports channels and two HBO channels. No Hallmark.||The room has a closet with hangers and ironing board behind a door on the side. A small safe is on the floor of the closet. There is the typical refrigerator and coffeemaker in the room.||The bathroom was clean. A hair dryer is in a bag hanging on the back of the door. The light for the bathroom goes all the way around the wall over the sink. It’s a little blinding. A not-so-bright setting would be nice. The shower water pressure is weak also. Even on the smallest stream it is not strong.||There is a nice place on which to rest two suitcases which was helpful. Also a good table and chair my wife used to put on makeup. We had a decent view facing the mountains. ||The included free breakfast had most of what anyone might want. The juices were good, coffee, muffins and cinnamon buns, eggs, bacon, turkey sausage, biscuits and sausage gravy, bread for toast, cereals, pancakes from a machine.||The front desk clerk was very nice. The maid service replaced our towels each day.|The room thermostat, though digital, seemed old-fashioned. I think they should replace them with ones that the settings light up on. Hard to change it at night unless you turn on a bright light. If we go back we would stay here again.||The prices were increased a lot due to it being homecoming weekend for WVU with the game scheduled...
