DONT BOOK RUN NOW!!!!!!!from the beginning of the experience, we walked in the front desk. Gentleman was in the bathroom with the door, not locked, and I walked in there on him, which was very awkward and unprofessional. We booked a room online that showed a hot tub with a pass-through and curtains on either side in the middle of the room, familiar with this because I stated another hotel downtown Port Clinton had this as well and I really enjoyed it. upon entering this was not the room we got. after inspecting the room, there were stains on the carpet and the couch. There was black mold on the wall, and a piece of the carpet strip was on the floor with staples coming out, pointed up. unfortunately, this does not allow for me to post the pictures I took to show exactly how disgusting this place was. we went to the front desk and argued with them, and they said they would refund our money. None of their rooms look like the pictures online…umm ok. as we are walking back to the room to get our stuff, my boyfriend gets a notification and they recharged us instead of refunding our money. so now we have to go back up to the front desk where they tell us that it's going to fall off, but they can only give us a receipt for one of the refunds. Both charges were for the same amount on the same day. This was not a fee this was the exact room charge. my boyfriend was very uncomfortable with their answer and that they would not give us a receipt for two refunds so he called his bank and they said yes there were two charges made, and there were not funds released on either of them . so my boyfriend goes back to the front desk again for the third time we have now been arguing back-and-forth with them for two hours mind you there's no manager on site so we have to talk to him on a phone and they will not give us his name or his number.weird. The front desk gentleman then told us we could go out to eat while they figured it out because it is now going on 5 o'clock and our day has been wasted! about 15 minutes later, as we're getting ready, they come back to our room and tell us that we had to leave. The funds were refunded, and the manager called and said that we had to leave now. after they literally just said to go out to eat and we're apologizing! at this point, I am so upset and my day has been ruined. I can't even believe that this whole experience happened. Let me also rewind to when we were checking in, and there was another lady at the front desk who had already prepaid, and they tried charging her again. She went off on them and her husband had to come in and talk to someone because they had a receipt and they were still trying to charge them, this place is a complete scam. Absolutely disgusting. You'd be better off sleeping in...
Read moreI love the choice hotels with all heart and only stay at 1 when needing lodging however it had been 4 years since my last stay at this one. It was not great then and needed fixed and it has not improved. The wall is buckling in the middle of the hotel. Not just an un even spot it is crumble and the plaster drywall looks like melted sludge. Every outlet has a plug in to cover the sewage smell. We stayed in Room 122, it has a punch in the face dirty diaper stench when you come in wasnt so bad when we ran the air... The building is in dire need of rebuid. . Not fixed torn down and rebuild i do not want anyone else to stay there. I am handicap and had my elder parents 81 and 77 and grandkids with me the rooms were adequate for what we needed..a place to sleep during lodge meetings and dinner..the mattresses were not comfortable but the pillows were. And we only got 3 on each bed (used to get 4) We were on the 1st floor but my parents couldn't go get breakfast due to no way to get up the stairs with walkers so we had to run items back to the rooms for them.. made it more inconvenient and stressful with no trays or covers for plates cups...And the breakfast has really gone to the bare minimal.. when 2 other rooms of visitors and us strick up conversations they compared how much better the place across the street was but the price here was less and more than a might the savings adds up .. speakin of price as members we all paid $120 a night we googled and the non member price was $78 a night for the same 2 double bed room Thats a $50 difference a night points are NOT WORTH the extra $200 it cost to be a member when nothing extra is included .. the employees were great and very attentive and very much aware of the problems as they had some signs and answers and cautions when we asked...
Read moreDisappointed with the Cleanliness and Overall Experience
unfortunately, my experience didn’t match the positive reviews I had seen online. The first room I was given was unacceptable—there was a strong smell of mold and dampness, the furniture was dirty and stained, and there was even visible mold on it. It was clear the cushions hadn’t been lifted or vacuumed underneath in a long time, and the carpet hadn’t been cleaned prior to our stay.
Worse, there was mold around the air conditioning unit and on parts of the wall—completely unacceptable and a potential health concern.
After bringing this to the staff’s attention, I was moved to another room. While it smelled better and was generally cleaner, the same issues with outdated and poorly maintained furniture remained. This was the same issues for my friends room. The smell of weed and cigarettes was awful.
Parking was also a nightmare. There were not enough spaces, which made coming and going frustrating. I understand the mayflies—those can’t be helped—but the property itself really needs attention.
Another big issue was the lack of an elevator, which was not mentioned in the listing. Being just two weeks post-surgery, the stairs were a real challenge for me. That’s important information for anyone with mobility concerns.
To top things off, I returned to my room after being out for the day only to find that my key no longer worked. The front desk had mistakenly marked me as checked out—despite my reservation being for two nights.
Breakfast was okay—nothing fancy, but it was fine.
I wasn’t expecting a 5-star hotel, but I did expect something clean and accurately represented online. With a deep cleaning, updated furnishings, and better communication, this hotel could be decent. But as it stands now, it needs serious...
