I had a really good stay here, one of the best I've ever had...great staff, they were on top of everything. The room was clean and comfortable, good two nights' rest (this may sound familiar), great breakfast, used the pancake machine for the first time, delicious silver dollar type pancakes!
I did some extensive research on hotels in the area, most had mostly positive reviews, some of the negative ones gave the impression that the guests in question either had their minds already made up, wished to discourage others, or just had a terrible stay. Some guests wrote long reviews, which may have irritated the manager and staff, mostly about billing issues...some managers told them to write to the hotel company's main office, a few said to never come back!
I've been to other hotels that had many problems, such as stained ceiling tiles, dusty countertops, cracked ceramic tops, etc. I've seen worse in other places, it doesn't really bother me, would never overly complain.
Four in particular were less than standard, rooms and halls in deplorable condition...one of these in particular was described as a roach trap that no one should even go near (I try to avoid using business names, don't wish to cause them any trouble)...hotels of this brand in other areas are the same, it's a wonder none of them have been condemned or shut down.
The lobby and room decor are what really attracted me to this one...the modern design and layout, good size and cleanliness. Some guests complained about the "outdated" carpet; I like its design, have seen similar ones elsewhere. I did notice some things that are usually in a hotel room were missing:
Phone book
Bible
Stationery and pen
Hotel TV station welcoming guests and showing bill
These missing were no problem, times have changed. The TV having DirectTV probably prevented the welcome channel, but no big deal. Many chains may have dispensed with these, as many guests no longer need them, but they still come in handy.
I've stayed at other Holiday Inns, this is by far one of the best, nice and quiet, no major problems...have been to some hotels that were really busy, was nice to have a quiet stay.
Thanks to all the staff for their attention to detail and great service, will...
Read moreOur room was large & bright, king bed was comfy, & both soft & firm pillows were provided. I really liked the large desk with lots of light. There's plenty of room for setting out your suitcases next to a small dresser. Really interesting furniture - well thought out storage space! Plenty of power outlets/charging stations; even a shelf & outlet by the full length mirror outside the bathroom. The AC was quiet & easy to use. The bathroom was bright and clean and the shower was warm with good water pressure. We didn't use the Keurig or microwave, but did use the frig and it kept things nice and cold. The breakfast area by the lobby is a pretty good size. There were lots of hot & cold choices for breakfast, even a pancake maker, which I'd never seen before in a hotel. Didn't try it since there were lots of other choices, including three different kinds of omelets, pork sausage, turkey sausage, muffins, cinnamon rolls, bread, bananas, cereal, yogurt, juices, coffee, tea. There are some charging stations in the breakfast area too. This was our first time staying at this hotel in Port Huron and I was impressed enough to write all this stuff down in my travel notes before leaving so I could do a review! Almost forgot to mention the view. Our room (226) overlooked an old marina behind the hotel. It was very peaceful, no boats, just duck and geese families swimming around. You can't go out on the docks but you can still enjoy the view. There's a patio that overlooks the marina with few tables if you want to relax by the water or eat your breakfast outside. Just overall...
Read moreI am writing to express my disappointment regarding my recent stay As a frequent guest, I had high expectations, but my experience this time was far from satisfactory. I requested a late checkout—just one additional hour—as is a benefit of being a rewards member. The front desk staff, both the gentleman and young lady, were personable and accommodating, and the gentleman noted my request in the system.
However, on checkout day at 10:45 AM, we were surprised by a knock at the door from housekeeping. After informing them of our late checkout, they left. Unfortunately, at 11:15 AM, we received another knock from a front desk employee who insisted we vacate the room. This left us confused and hurried to pack our belongings. Upon checking out shortly thereafter, I encountered three employees who appeared unaware of my late checkout. When I tried to explain the situation, I was met with a dismissive response, stating that “it’s not my fault” and describing our interaction as an “altercation.” This terminology was alarming and made me feel unjustly accused. I felt treated more like a criminal than a valued guest. This encounter significantly marred my stay, and I believe it reflects poorly on the hotel’s commitment to...
