We stayed for 3 nights last week in the Amish Room. I picked this room because of the balcony on the top floor. In 2016 we stayed here in the Detention Room which shares this balcony and loved it. Just like 7 years ago, every time we were on the balcony the neighboring room was not, so we had it to ourselves (not that it would bother us if the others were on it because all the other guests were very kind). We talked to many of them about biking and the bike trails.|Now, in 2023 there are new owners and there are updates happening. This is such a nice B&B. The owners Tom and Dorle couldn't be nicer folks. Tom actually used to be the Sheriff in Preston, how cool is that!? Everyday we had a conversation with both of them at different times. They are very helpful with things to do in the area and just super nice to talk to and chat about random things. We brought our bikes on this trip and rode from Preston to Harmony and back one day and from Preston to Lanesboro and back the next. There are some really scenic and fun trails here!|The Amish room has a really nice long copper tub. This tub was great for a soak after our bike rides. The furniture is all antique and well-kept. There are unique features in the Amish room like a sink that has separate faucets for hot and cold. There is also a chamber pot which did not impress my husband but I found amusing. Don't worry! You do not need to use this, there is a real modern toilet haha! We did not realize there would not be a shower in the room so it was quite a challenge figuring out how to wash our hair and body in a tub. We laugh about it now as part of the experience. We would definitely not want to be Amish! There is also a really cute painted table with stackable apples in a basket to play Checkers with. We got one quick game in before we checked out.|The highlight of staying here is the breakfast. Every day it was something different and every day it was delicious and very filling! We did not need to stop for snacks or anything during our bike rides as the breakfasts were so large. In addition to an amazing breakfast, Dorle makes cookies or breads that are put out in the kitchen for you to have when you feel like a snack. There's also a variety of coffees, teas, hot chocolates Etc to make any time you like. There are plenty of places to sit outside and relax if your room does not have a balcony. We cannot wait to come back here and stay in a different room. There are 12, so it would be fun to stay in every one! Hopefully it will not be another 7 years before our next visit. If you are not a biker, there are other things to do in this area besides the trails. Of course you can walk on the trails but there are also two caves nearby that we did on our last trip and they're both really fun. There's also a variety of shops and restaurants in Preston and all the...
Read moreHad the great fortune to stay at this wonderful B&B. It is a former jail and we stayed in the cell block room, my first stay in a jail cell and certain to be the most comfortable cell stay by far. The original sink is still used, you can see the old pictures of it too. Cleverly our first meal of bread and water [bottled] was in our cell upon arrival. There was a door directly to the deck too. Which was where coffee was served to us in the morning after being released (we weren’t really locked in). This was followed by a great breakfast. The one morning we were lucky to have the Dorle’s moist scones (I didn’t know that was possible with scones). I’m classified as a picky eater and a vegetarian, but I was certainly full after breakfast! They even awesomely asked if any of us had allergies to be aware of when we checked in and they worked to accommodate. We went to Preston to bike ride and could see the bike path from the Inn so very convenient. The Paddy Wagon van can be scheduled with the hosts if you need a lift from the bar or even to or from the bike paths. There were games and room to play them in the inviting eating and lounge area -it did rain the one day so this was handy not to mention a stocked cookie jar in the kitchen that I wish was at my house. The old cistern room is now a wine room and a great place to drink and talk with your group and the noise is contained with the stone walls so you didn’t have to worry about keeping other guests up.||Be aware there are steps and no elevator. In the Cell Block the there is a jacuzzi and the toilet and shower are separated by a curtain from the sink area, so not the most private, but highly recommended! So glad I went and would stay...
Read moreOne of our very favorite places! We stayed here in 2016 and just stayed again last week for three nights. This time we stayed in the Amish room. This room has a super unique copper tub that is very long. There is no shower which was quite a challenge for us staying 3 days but we made it work. The owners here couldn't be nicer people. We talked to them multiple times and they seem genuine and caring. They are making updates to the property and it is looking nice! The breakfasts here are the highlight! The food is so delicious and you get such a large amount that it will fuel you for the day whether you are shopping, biking, walking, taking cave tours, etc! The Jailhouse Inn has 12 rooms and every single one is different. The Amish room shares a balcony with the detention room on the top floor. It is so nice to sit out there in the rocking chairs and read! The bike trails in this area of the state are excellent. A few bumpy spots but nothing major. We biked from Preston to Harmony and back one day and then from Preston to Lanesboro and back the next. We had such a great time and cannot wait to come back and stay at the jailhouse again! The Amish room has a few fun features like a Checkers table with little apples as the pieces and a real chamber pot. But don't worry-it's not to use, there's a real modern toilet, haha! Thank you Tom and Dorle for your amazing hospitality. My only regret is that I forgot to purchase one of the super cute flour sack towels that were for sale in the...
