The Trailhead Inn is a great bargain. I'm surprised there aren't any more recent reviews - it is a very busy place with lots of visitors, at least in the summer. It's centrally located among numerous outdoor activities (fishing, hiking, tubing, cycling - it's right ON the Root River Bicycle Trail). The owners have moved to a "vacation rental" model so it doesn't work like a typical motel. There is no "office" - you make your reservation online or by phone/text, then they'll text or call you the day before with the keyless entry code for your room and give you a phone number in case of any questions or problems. Our receipt was on the table when we arrived, the room was comfortable and clean (they DO still have daily cleaning). While some of the furniture was older, the bathroom seemed quite new and there was plenty of hot water. There was lots of lighting, a mini-fridge and microwave. The Wifi was strong and consistent; the TV came with an Amazon Fire Stick to give you numerous choices of programming. There's a delightful deck with chairs, tables and umbrellas, that stretches the length of the building. There's a nice small park with a playground right by the parking lot so recommended for families with active kids. The only potential "negative" was that the rooms all face East and the curtains are not black-out so if you don't want to see the sunlight at dawn, bring a sleep mask! We enjoyed our 2 day stay there and will return the next time we're...
Read moreWe stayed here for a Thelma & Louise trip with my BFF- Great location, great room we stayed in #11 which had lots of room more than we needed including a big whirlpool tub which we didn't use. However, if a couple is looking for this then this is the room for you! Lots of hot water and space for two chicks to get ready and have all of our stuff everywhere that we brought! ||||We loved the location to everything which was within walking distance for us. Plus, the bonus is having the trails right there which we brought our fold-up bikes with us. Trails were great and nicely kept up. We also, brought our fishing rods as the river is right outside at your finger tips to catch trout! We liked that the breakfast was right next door and you could just go over and eat what you like, not having to go out for breakfast intown which was a bonus. I am not a coffee drinker, but my friend loved the coffee and all the goodies you need to make it taste great. ||||If I can offer one suggestion to the Trailhead Inn and Suites would be to update your pictures and décor it needs a little zip in this department. However, I know there are new owners so, everything takes time and money. You have a hidden gem and we have told lots of our friends and family about how great Preston is and to come visit! ||||Keep up the good work and hope to see you again next year for our annual Thelma and...
Read moreWe just returned from a three night stay at Trailhead Inn. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, plenty of hot water for showers, and they had a coffee maker, mini fridge & microwave in the room. This a Mom & Pop motel done right, nothing fancy but has everything you need. Housekeeping checked our room daily and left clean towels extra soap & shampoo, no complaints there. We were in Preston for a weekend of trout fishing but if you are there to bike the root river trail this motel is on the trail. We didn't try the breakfast but the women at the front desk made sure we knew about it and emphasized the only hot item were make your own waffles. The room prices in Preston are more reasonable than Lanesboro, but Lanesboro is a cutsie tourist town, kuddos for them. It just depends on what you are looking for when visiting. Almost forgot, there is a park with picnic area just across the parking lot.||||The only downsided of this motel would be it faces east, so early morning sun and the street lights. Recommend you bring a sleeping mask if you are light sensitive. We stayed in the king room so we were a bit coser to to the street. However, this will not stop us from staying at Trailhead Inn again. We highly...
