I rated this Best Western plus Crabtree hotel a 2 because of the location was close to where I was attending a family reunion. The front desk clerks overall were friendly and accommodating.
Upon checking into the room we noticed our room was cold and outdated, the shower head looked like it would fall off if you touched it, the bedsheets felt like they were damp. I tried to call the front desk clerk but the phone in the room wasn’t working, therefore, I had to go downstairs to address the issues with the clerk. The clerk came to the room to show us how to work the heat and stated that I could change rooms if I preferred because of the other issues with the room. We moved to another room on the same floor and the next day there was a terrible (sewage) smell coming from the drainage or toilet. I called the front desk and was informed that maintenance would come up to address the issue. Whatever maintenance did it only worked for one day then the smell was back. We brought some Lysol spray and Lysol cleaner to use to hinder the smell but the smell overpowered what we were using so we had to keep the bathroom door closed and just had to used the Lysol spray quite frequently.
We had a housekeeper cleaned the room while we were out of the room on the third day of our stay. In which, she didn’t clean the room because there was evidence left there to let us know she only gave us new towels, etc. Unfortunately, the room did not have a safe so I would just take the personal items that I did not want to leave unlocked with me. I had left a brand new Apple Pencil for my new Apple iPad in the top drawer by mistake in the nightstand next to my bed. When I went to use the Apple Pencil later the same day that the housekeeper clean the room it was missing from the top drawer of the nightstand. I had so much to do during the week that I forgot to take it out of the drawer. At this point, I knew that the housekeeper had taken it and I knew I would never get it back. It’s unfortunate that they have individuals that work at that hotel that take things that don’t belong to them. This was the first for me. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and never had anything stolen even if I left something valuable out by mistake.
I spoke to the front desk clerk and informed her that my Apple Pencil was missing from the top drawer in the nightside near my bed after housecleaning had clean the room.
I did not allow any housekeepers in the room unless we were there after my item was stolen.
They knew who cleaned the room on this day my Apple Pencil went missing but never addressed me even when I checked out. Also the same desk clerk that I reported this issue to when I checked out of the hotel did not ask me how was my stay spoke volumes.
I would not recommend anyone to stay here, if you do please lock up your personal valuables. The rooms are outdated and to deal with a smelly bathroom is...
Read moreIt pains me to have to write this review, but I feel it is important for the public to know about my recent experience here. When I called in to inquire about the rate, they said they would match the online price (about $70/night) for a three night stay. When I entered my room, the TV wasn't working and the water in the shower came out dark brown. The water became clear after a few minutes and I had my laptop, so it wasn't a big deal for me at that time.
The next morning, I took the stairs down to the main floor to avoid the elevator (which is very old and extremely slow). When I walked down to the main lobby floor, I found the door was locked and I was stuck inside the stairwell. Thinking it was an oversight, I tried the second floor- no luck. I ran back up to the third floor- my heart racing and my breathing increasing- that floor was locked too! I started to feel that sense of impending doom; the stairwell was narrow, dark and windowless and I was most definitely trapped in it! I started desperately banging on doors, realizing slowly that in these days of Covid I wasn't likely to be heard.
I finally made it to the ground floor and escaped to the outside! I brought the situation to the attention of one of the staff members, who didn't seem to take me very seriously. He became very defensive and pointed the finger back at me, asking why I would take that staircase instead of the elevator. I later brought up my concern with Chris, the manager on duty who (rather uncompassionately) insisted that the locked doors were part of the fire protocol, and reiterated that I should not have taken that staircase.
Here's the breakdown:
That staircase looked like any other staircase in a hotel, and An emergency staircase that locks from the inside can most certainly PREVENT escape in the event of an emergency, especially if the fire is on that side of the building!
Needless to say, I decided to cut my stay short after one night. That same manager who had dismissed me earlier (Chris) was assisting me with my check out, and didn't seem to appreciate my concerns from earlier in the day. I understand paying for an extra night because of the late check out, but she proceeded to INCREASE my rate for both nights instead of compassionately hearing my concerns and working with me. Chris should NOT be in this line of work. I gave this hotel 2 stars because the lady who checked me in the first night was fabulous.
I called into corporate, who agreed with my safety concerns. Do not stay here until this problem is addressed! If you have no other choice, book one night at a time through a third party, stay on the first floor, and check...
Read moreOct 21-23, we stayed this hotel and Friday and Saturday, they charged us 2 different room rates (the highest as possible). Night time, till midnight, this hotel is very noisy, and people were laughing, throwing things, moving things and screaming. So annoying. My husband is a veteran and hotel staff told us to give us 15% discount. When we received the hotel receipt before check out, it said way different calculation with high tax rate. Unbelievable!!! If you are going to stay in this hotel, make sure you have your receipt before check in. Their room rate calculation is cheating. Cleaning is OK. nothing superior and nothing dirty. in the morning breakfast is nasty. frozen potatoes, frozen egg with bacon looks like fake. Nooo!!! ...... So, yesterday I called to hotel GM as she requested and try to tell her what her staff told us, when we were going to register. GM name is Anne. Her staff said that a double-bed room rate is $154 per night and he gave to my husband 15% discount for veteran. then we changed our plan and decided to stay this hotel 2 nights. $154x2=$308-15%=$261.8+13.25%(occupacy and state tax)=$296.50. $296.50 is the amount we should pay. But we paid $349.61, when we checked out. It means we paid $53.12 over. They did not give us 15% of military discount as the staff told us. Hotel staff did not even tell us they would change our room rate on saturdays and sundays. Hotel GM tried to lie and told us that day we checked-in, all rooms were sold out!!! NOOO SORRY, we were there all night and next day. There weren't many guests at that hotel. If there were, we would be notice!!! If their rooms were sold out, why did they give us room??? What happened is, hotel staff charged us 2 nights with $154. But they put 2 different room rate ($143.10 first day and $165.60 second day) and charged their state tax and occupacy tax from exactly same amount of $308 (2 nights room rate). It means they did not cut the 15% discount from $308 as they said. So, people please check your payment receipt before you check-in!!! THAT'S HOW THEY TELL YOU A LIE AND LET YOU STAY THEIR HOTEL AND CHEATING THEIR ROOM RATE CALCULATION. BE AWARE!!! Every clients check the hotel rates before they make their decision to choose their hotel...
