Despite their efforts, the hotel’s condition pointed to a staffing shortage rather than neglect. 🎁 Amenities & Grounds: The hotel grounds were well-maintained, and the overall environment felt safe. This place was terrible. From the front counter service to the cleaning crew. When I was a young man, I always thought of the Ramada as a high-end resort hotel. We had one close to our neighborhood and it was always too expensive to stay in. Now that I'm grown, I've stayed in a couple of the Ramada locations and the place is a dump no matter what city you visit. They've spent a lot of money trying to polish a turd and that is very evident in their lobbies and guest facilities but when you get to the meat and potatoes of your stay, (the room), things are not what they seem. For that matter, the facade in the lobby and such is not all that impressive once you take a closer look. This place was filthy! The lobby was dirty, the hallways were dirty the elevator was dirty the parking lot was filthy and so on. They only believe in air conditioning in the main lobby and somewhat in the rooms. (More on the later). The front desk is manned by one employee and the one we encountered was not pleasant at all. She was irritated and in a hurry and it showed. Everything was straight to the point like she was a robot on repeat. She had her lines memorized very well so we did know how to get to our room and we did know where breakfast would be served etc... but it was literally like talking to an automated service over the phone. This hotel had areas blocked off by ropes and that made me feel uneasy. Why are those areas restricted? One was a hallway to an exit door that was closer to our room but we were not able to use it. Other hallways were blocked at various times to and for what? Instead of air conditioning the entire building, they have box fans set up all over the building on the floor. It's very noisy and presents tripping hazards. If your arms are loaded up with luggage, be mindful not to trip over a fan. Our room was filthy as well and looked like it had not been thoroughly cleaned at all. There was stuff all over the floor, stains on the curtains dust on every surface and the bathroom was disgusting. Soap scum residue on the faucets, counters, and walls. Red algae in the shower and someone else's hair in the tub. When my daughters went to step into the shower, she nearly slipped and injured herself because the bottom of the tub was so slippery from the residue. After I showered, the towel that I used to dry my face placed two long gray hairs right between my eyes. I absolutely HATE stray hair and to have someone else's on my face just turns my stomach. When you walk into your room, you notice multiple little stickers that read no smoking or this is a non-smoking establishment yet when I looked out on the balcony, there is a set of chairs and a table with of all things, an ashtray on it. Sort of a contradiction in my opinion. After checking in, we decided to take a swim in the pool. It was nice to have especially because it was in the 90's when we visited. My only complaints about the pool are 1), it closes too early and 2), it was full of stray hair! Every time I surfaced after diving under, my face was covered in someone else's hair. YUCK! It was on my shoulders and my back and the top of my head. We couldn't get away from it. One last detail concerning the air conditioning. Specifically in the rooms. I can't speak about every room of course however our room did not have its own air conditioning unit. It's probably safe to assume that most or all of them do not. What the room did have is a thermostat. It was in the off position when we arrived and so I turned it to on. I set it for cool and I changed the temperature control to around 65 degrees. As it turns out, the only function that the in room thermostat serves is to turn the vent fan on or off. You have absolutely no control over the temperature whatsoever. The fan only has one speed and the system barely cools the room. The temperature of our room the entire weekend was just about to break into a sweat warm. It never felt cool and sleeping was hard because of it. Do yourself a favor and book a different hotel.

PARKING: The parking lot was older and the slots were narrow, but other than that it was fine. I arrived after dark and would have preferred more lighting. CHECK-IN: The front lobby has it's own dedicated security guard. It's disconcerting that they need one, but since they apparently need security, it's reassuring that they have a full-time guard station in the lobby. The person who checked me in was friendly and efficient. ROOM: There was an elevator to reach my floor and my room and bathroom were clean. The bathroom light is on a motion sensor and the fan loudly rattles, so there is no quietly using the bathroom in the middle of the night. The mattress was extremely comfortable and I had an incredible pillow. The problem with the room is that you don't get to set your own temperature. There is a high, medium, flow fan that will blow out whatever temperature of air is being sent through the ducts, which was very slightly cool. The ceiling above the vent was darkened, which had me concerned about air quality. BREAKFAST: The rooms come with breakfast. It consists of waffles, pastries and bagels, cereal, and a yellow sweet drink (maybe trying for OJ). Other than the waffles, there were no hot food items. There were no protein items or coffee. CHECK-OUT: The front desk wasn't occupied for a long while in the morning. I tried calling the front desk from the front desk to alert someone, but the phone is set to mute and no one responded or answered elsewhere. They require a $100 security deposit, so I wanted to formally check out. GENERAL: There were a load of twitchy people hanging out in the parking lot and lingering in the hallway of my floor. I felt safe the whole time, but it was outside the norm.

TLDR: It's garbage, and the owner allows his mates to party in the carpark. I stayed at the Ramada Sacramento for 5 nights from the 9-14 of October 2024. This is by far the worst hotel experience I have had in my life. The hotel is dated and well overdue for some upgrades, especially the bathrooms. But the major concern is security. I have never felt so unsafe at a hotel. When we turned up on a Thursday evening, many homeless people were sleeping in cars in the carpark and milling about the hotel, and as others had talked about, a security vehicle parked in the entry. We were very concerned about the hotel's safety from the start, as our ranch slider on the first floor didn't lock. There was a very large group who looked to be there for a wedding/celebration and were behaving very drunk and belligerently to staff and playing music loudly in the front area of the hotel. However, our biggest issue was on the final night - Sunday the 13th of October 2024. We returned to the hotel around 11:30pm tired and ready to sleep. There was a large group of men in the carpark just below our window drinking, smoking, yelling and playing very loud music via a car stereo. They had dragged all their room furniture outside, and it looked like they weren't moving soon. At midnight, we had had enough, so my partner went to reception to complain. They said they had had a few complaints and would speak to them. My partner went outside to ask them nicely to please be quiet and was met with extreme hostility and told he wasn't the owner, so he had no right to tell them what to do. He returned to the room, and we waited for security to move them on. At 12:40 am, the security car drove up to them briefly and then passed by, achieving nothing (I have this on video). The music got louder, and they became more belligerent. I went downstairs to find out what was happening and was told they were giving them time to stop before taking it further, as they were intimidating the security guy. At this point, it was almost 1am, and no one in the hotel could sleep. I told them I expected the police to be called if they could not control the situation themselves. There was another lady down there who had been told this was a regular occurrence at the hotel, which is very concerning; why do they let these guests return? At 1 am I went out on the balcony to ask them to please go inside as we couldn't sleep. One of the men approached and started hitting on me. I asked them again to please be quiet and go into their room so we could sleep. They continued to be loud and said they would go inside after they had finished their meal (which had just arrived) I replied that was unacceptable and they could eat inside as it was past 1am and the guests of the hotel had paid to sleep not listen to them all night. They got very hostile, threatening to have me arrested by "their brother the Sherriff" and have me kicked out "by their friend the owner" and calling me all kinds of insults and slurs. The security guy drove up again, and they started demanding that he tell them my name and room number and to call their brother, the Sheriff so I could be arrested/ trespassed. (apparently, asking them to be quiet is a crime?). As I was only 1 storey up and the ranch slider door didn't lock, I was very much afraid for my safety. After some more exchanges, they agreed to move their party into the lobby. And the other lady who was with me at reception cleaned up their mess in the carpark. Needless to say, after their threats, I did not sleep that night. At checkout, I asked for a complaints/ refund procedure and was given a card for the owner with a Gmail address. I asked for an email for the head office, and was told they weren't really affiliated with Wyndham just used the name, and that was the only email address. They seem to be selling the name to independent hotels with no oversight. The men from the night before were checking out with their group (upwards of 30 people). I would caution anyone who plans to stay at this time of the year as it is likely this group will be there and the owner allows this takeover to...

The furniture was old and worn, and the mid-layer blanket had several cigarette burn holes. A lingering urine smell was present near the lobby elevators. Severe water damage to ceiling and paint chipping in bath. Gym was dirty. Cleaning staff were proactive and courteous, offering room service without being asked. Despite their efforts, the hotel’s condition pointed to a staffing shortage rather than neglect.

🎁 Amenities & Grounds:

The hotel grounds were well-maintained, and the overall environment felt safe. No issues with key cards. Access to rooms beyond the main entrance was convenient.

👨‍⚖️ Verdict

Ramada Sacramento shows potential. Extensive amenities, friendly staff, and well-kept grounds. Critical issues include major cleanliness, maintenance and cosmetic issues/deterioration. Recommended for value-seeking travelers and professionals who prioritize lots of amenities and immediate freeway access and don’t see cleanliness or surrounding neighborhood as a deal-breaker.
