I would give zero stars if I could as I’ve just had the most mind blowing, disappointing experience. I am from the area and literally just wanted one night of peace and quiet to myself so I drove up to the South Branch and attempted to book a room. There was only 1 other car in the parking lot (a state department correctional van with the driver in it) so the hotel was relatively empty. ||||When I passed over my ID the receptionist said….your address says you live in Augusta. Why do you need a room here? I was caught off guard by the question as I didn’t really think it was any of her business but I responded anyway…because I just need a night away. She then responded with, well I’m sorry but we can’t rent to you. I asked her why and she said it was because they didn’t rent to locals. I was understandably flummoxed and said again…why? Her response was that they just didn’t. And then the other female attendant piped up and said…the Koolwink doesn’t either. ||||Hmmmm….okay. But why?! Their response, we just don’t. I didn’t find that satisfactory so I pressed them on it. I said, so what you’re telling me is that instead of me being able to spend my revenue money in the county I live in, as I don’t live within the city limits of Romney where this hotel is located, I will have to go to Winchester and give that revenue money to the city of Winchester instead because I am a local and you don’t rent rooms to locals??? Yes ma’am, sorry, that’s just the policy. ||||Again I asked why? And what finally came out was that they have more “trouble” with locals than they do with folks from outside the area. Now, I’m 41 and caring for an aging parent, and all I wanted was a quiet night, not that it’s anyone’s business why I needed the room, but apparently locals aren’t welcomed because we cause too much trouble. And I’m not even sure what kind of “trouble” she thought I would be causing the staff or bringing to the establishment but I can’t think of anything that isn’t offensive so that was just stunning.||||The whole experience was other worldly. And I really don’t care what they’re doing at the Koolwink. But I’d be curious to see the South Branch’s P&P manual to see if this policy does actually exist, whether they have that tidbit of info posted to their website so folks would know, and would also be curious to know how it’s not illegal and...
Read moreI was on a road trip with my sister and her husband one night last week. It was $150 per night, which is not a bad rate. BUT, I have never stayed in a hotel/motel room (this had an extra bedroom with out a door) that was so 'unwelcoming). COLD! The front staff personnel were very nice and the reception area was ok, but, the feel of this place is unacceptable. I feel that the owners of this place did not do anything to welcome the guests. I realize you have renovations you will be doing, but, there are ways to welcome guests w/o spending alot of money (considering you will be renovating). One piece of artwork was on the wall, furniture not comfortable. In fact, I took photos of the couch made into the bed. The springs were literally going into my back. I actually took photos. There is no way you should have used that as a bed. NO WAY!! Microwave, etc. etc. very old. TV is old, micro is ridiculous. No extra's on counter. No cart to bring in luggage, etc. The pen did not even work. I apologize for being so blunt but you shouldn't have opened this soon, if you couldn't even make a customer feel welcome. Your saving grace is your employee's. I am sure they listen to complaints all day long. I could warm that room and bathroom for under $100. Shame on you that we spent one day of our short vacation (was going to be two,) but we cancelled the second night. Respect your customers. I realize you have utility companies utilizing your rooms so the companies pay for it, but it is not fair for you to open up until you are ready to do so. Christine Henning, Oviedo, FL Thanks...
Read moreThe room was very dusty. The light in the bathroom was so bad you could not see to take a shower. Had to wash up in the sink that was located across from the bathroom. I could not get the TV remote to turn the TV on or off. Called the front desk and the lady came up and showed me how to turn the TV on the side of the set and remote would change channels only. She said the bathroom light was good as it gets. I also pointed out the stained bedding and holes in it. Her comments "They might have stains but they are clean. I did not sleep well because I could not bring myself to cover up in a nasty looking bed. I was not even offered a discount and the room cost as much as a Hampton Inn. The breakfast was awful. I tried to find owner info to let them know about my stay but was unsuccessful so this is my attempt to let them know. Changes...
