Despite reading some negative reviews about the rooms themselves, we found our room to be clean, the beds comfortable, and we got a decent nights sleep. I loved the extra space in the 2-queen room that has the pull-out couch. We didn't actually use the pull-out, but having the little couch area was really nice.||That said, when I'm traveling with my kiddo I'm always looking for a hotel with a pool, because she loves swimming, and an on-site restaurant just because it can be a real pain in the butt to try to leave the hotel with a 5-year old to get dinner. So those 2 amenities are what made us choose this hotel, and both were lacking.||The pool is super small for a hotel. With about 10 guests in it, it felt incredibly crowded. Thankfully everyone cleared out around 7-ish so my kiddo still got some room/time to swim. I did really appreciate that that they said the pool is open until I think it was 10pm.||The bistro was a bigger disappointment. From reading on their website I was expecting a restaurant, but the food they serve you feels like what you would find at a gas station. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich - the chicken patty is one of those flat circular frozen patties, and despite that the staff member making it asked me if I wanted both blue cheese and coleslaw on it, it only came with the cheese. I had to come back down to ask about the missing coleslaw, to then be told, oh actually they don't have any. When my daughter ordered a burger, we found out they don't keep pickles or onions on hand as burger toppings - they only have lettuce and tomato. And then I got a salad as the side with my sandwich and was told that despite that they have salads on the menu, they could only give me a salad of arugula as my side (no option for a lettuce salad....). We got back to our room with our food to discover we had no salad dressing as well. And for two clearly frozen sandwiches with a side salad and a cup of fruit we spent over $30. Just a huge disappointment for dinner.||The breakfast (included with certain bookings) is a choice of one "hot" item - all options seemed like something that was pulled from a gas station freezer and microwaved - or two "cold" options. We went with the cold choices, and though it wasn't really worth paying extra for, the muffin and bagel were a fine breakfast. But for being such cheap options....I feel like the breakfast should ALWAYS be complimentary with...
Read moreThanks for asking. Let's begin with what we liked. I liked the mounted pump dispensers in the shower for shampoo and conditioner. OK that's all.
The staff is in dire need of training in the art of hospitality! No people skills whatsoever. I am a store manager, executive director of a professional organization and a freelance writer, all of which make me approachable and easy conversationalist. We arrived hot and tired after a fun day at the air show, in good spirits, only to have them dashed by the check in person. Travelers generally arrive a bit weary and ready to rest. It certainly would have been nice to be greeted upon our arrival with a pleasant smile or warm hello. But instead we were treated like checking us in was an inconvenience. When asked about restaurants in the area, I expected more than a curt, "There's information in your room," (which there was not) and we certainly were not about to return to the front desk for more disrespect. She also volunteered that the fee for breakfast would depend on what we ordered, adding "but you're welcome to go somewhere else." Gee, thanks for your hospitality. The room appeared clean, but the lighting was dim - all lights worked, but apparently low watt bulbs, even in the vanity area. Speaking of thee vanity area . . . how were the towels, you ask? They might have been good for sanding the woodwork. I use softer towels in the garage for rags. When we asked about the AAA and Military discounts they offered, we were told they were not available to us - is this something to be addressed at the time of booking? Was it my fault for not seeing that option? Other Hotels have made such adjustments at the time of check in. Check out was equally disappointing. Not so much as a "Hello, How was your stay? Have a safe trip, Please have a complimentary cup of coffee before you hit the road . . . " Pretty much felt like "don't let the door hit you on the way out. This only validated our concern that this was indeed the policy of the hotel, from start to finish. And I do mean we are finished. From check in to check out - there was a complete lack of hospitality. We issued no complaint or negative comment during our stay as we did not wish to make an uncomfortable situation even worse. It was like an unwelcome stay with in-laws. And we were...
Read moreClean hotel, responsive staff. HOWEVER:
I made reservations (family wedding) 1.5 months in advance for 2 nights. The first service representative over the phone seemed annoyed (?) that the hotel rooms were in short supply, and here I was asking for TWO! My brother also called to make reservations for the wedding and got the same vibe from his service rep. He decided it wasn't worth bothering her, so booked at a different hotel instead.
I persisted with Courtyard, however, and arranged (with the wedding rate) for 8 family members, 4 in each of two rooms with 2 queen size beds. Here's what should have been easy: charging the same rate for each room for each of the 2 nights. After arriving at Courtyard, we discovered the booking was not correct (despite my phone call to confirm). They had given us 1 room with 2 queens and 1 room with 1 king, all for only one night. An employee named Drake was instrumental in arranging for 2 rooms with 2 queens for 2 nights--even getting the rooms on the same floor. He assured me the rooms were all the same price. Unfortunately, when the invoices started pouring into my inbox that night, one room charged over $50 more than the other. Eventually, after 3 phone calls and 4 trips down to the front desk, I finally managed to get someone in authority to charge the same rate for both rooms for both nights.
I now have 13 emails from Courtyard with invoices with varying rates for the rooms. Confusingly, I have six separate emails about one room for one of the nights. We checked out only yesterday, so I am waiting for my Visa account to record the correct charges. If that happens in a day or two, I will finally be done with this fiasco. I fear, however, that somehow I will still be charged a variety of rates.
All employees have been extremely cheerful and industrious, but none of their interventions seems to last longer than 4 minutes. I have to explain the entire situation all over again to whichever employee is helping me at the moment.
Also surprising: no breakfast! This Courtyard is the first hotel I have stayed at in 15 years that offers nothing (other than coffee maker in room). I didn't even think to ask when I booked!
The hallway reeked of cigarette smoke, but the...
