This is not a classy classic hotel and it doesn’t try to be. It has a distinct vibe of trying to be more of a hostel experience than a hotel experience. Suitable for singles or those looking for a relaxed cheerful environment. While it wasn’t perfect, it was clean, the people were nice and overall I think it deserved 5 stars.

Reasons for 5 stars: great location: right off of i-75 and the Ohio turnpike safe location: quiet other than cars driving by on highways, but otherwise that’s it, I specifically chose this spot because I am a single female traveling alone and felt safe here friendly staff no nonsense breakfast: hot water and oatmeal packets, coffee, hot chocolate packets, granola bars (a mix of different kinds), apples and oranges. I never liked the “continental” breakfast so many hotels serve anyways, so this was ideal for me. Others might miss the eggs, sausages, waffles, cereal of which they have NONE but again it didn’t bother me plus the staff on duty when I checked in, informed me of that and so I was well aware the room: clean, recently renovated, not too small, bathroom was nice the price: this is the real final reason because for a grand total of $89.07 for my stay, this was very affordable and gave the biggest bang for my buck out of any hotel I’ve stayed at the general vibes: I really liked the design of the hotel, and the fact that the lobby was turned into a bit of a hangout area. I like the colours that were used as well. And I liked that it was more of a hostel vibe than a hotel vibe.

Reasons I would have given it less stars if it wasn’t for the price: the door to the bathroom wasn’t hung on the hinges correctly meaning if you didn’t close it, it would swing all the way open and when you closed it, it was sticky I don’t love the smell of the shampoo and conditioner the bed sheets weren’t as nice as others I’ve been at, but I’m used to very nice bed sheets. They are still good enough. the mattress wasn’t as nice as some hotels but again, comfortable enough! the tv was confusing but I did get it to work on the channels eventually you can tell this is a low budget hotel as everything is slightly more cheap than usual. HOWEVER it seemed all well maintained other than the door and it all appeared clean so I was happy with it. Plus for the price, it’s supposed to not be high end.

That’s it! Over all a 5 star experience and I’ll definitely be staying at this hotel again whether it’s this...

We were able to book a hotel room for 5 nights using the Hilton App for a hotel that is not even open. Our family has not been all together for 7 years so we were going drive up on Christmas day. Once we got to the hotel, it is still under construction! (The photo I have attached was taken when we got to the hotel on Christmas Day) No one was at the hotel and there was construction materials everywhere. So we called to speak with someone about not having a hotel room and the only people we were able to speak to was not able to help us and only transferred us to a number that didn't work. We decided to drive the the other Tru Hotel in Michigan since we know this one is open. They were able to get us a hotel room only for 2 nights not for the 5 and on top of that they were not able to adjust the rate to what we have already been charged for the hotel that wasn't open. The general manager was unable to help us at this Tru hotel, so we called the number back on the second day. Once we were able to get a hold of someone they transferred me around on the phone and when I was able to talk with someone that can do something, they still didn't help. She told me that she can not give me a refund until she talks with someone from the CLOSED HOTEL. How is that possible? She was unable to do anything for the 2nd reservation that I had to make, just so I can have somewhere for my family. So I had to pay more out of pocket for the mistake that we had no control over. The only thing she was able to do is give me 5,000 points. And that will not cover any of the stay, or one night. End the end our family is extremely upset with Hilton and the fact that they will give you the run around if there is a problem. By the way the big sign by the front desk said "It's Tru. You deserve our best every day: A clean, Comfortable place to stay and service with a smile. If it's not our best, please let us know. We promise to make it right, or we'll cover your night". We don't hold this statement to be TRUIf this was you what would...

My girlfriend discovered a bed bug on her side of the bed during our breakfast in bed on the second day of our stay. Our room number was 210. We quickly gathered it into a coffee cup, went down the stairs to the front desk, and showed the staff member. After taking the cup from us, she went to confirm that the object was, in fact, a bed bug. To be clear, there was not an infestation; we just discovered one bed bug. She transferred us to room 310 and gave us a one-night refund.

As the hotel was to blame for the bed bug, I asked if she might assist us in moving our belongings as there were no carts available. She informed me that I was out of luck and that all I could do was wait downstairs while my belongings stayed in a room where we had already discovered a bed bug. After overhearing our chat, the breakfast lady—I think her name was Shirley—kindly let us to use her breakfast cart to transfer our belongings to our new room. I was quite appreciative, but if that's the case, I think the front desk could have done more to assist with moving our belongings. Our business stay was less than ideal since even though we checked the mattresses in room 310 and were certain there were no bed bugs there, we were still quite concerned that there would be. The paranoia had already set in.

The bathtub also had strange stains in the color of excrement. It was repulsive to look at while taking a shower because nothing else was that color. I'm not sure if it was a result of building construction or not, but the bathtub caulking was not brown in color.

When the General Manager answered our return call request, she rudely implied that we staged the bed bug ourselves, in response to our protest for a larger refund. Her justification was that nothing was discovered by the exterminator that was sent in after our stay. She essentially labeled us liars and claimed that we were fortunate to receive a refund for one night. I am quite shocked that the Hilton name allows the hotel employees to handle their guests in...

Very disappointed that Hilton put it's name behind this Tru brand. It appears to be a brand to compete against Motel 6 or similar budget hotels. Minimalist would be the nice marketing word, for bare bones, with very few amenities. A few are even missing that one normally would expect, like a coffee pot, hair dryer, microwave oven, no comfortable chair or dresser's for clothing. I mean you can't find them in the "Handicapped" room that was available on 1st floor. I'm not sure how we ended up here except the Hilton Web Site offered several which were available, I assumed Tru would be as nice as a Hampton Inn, NOT EVEN CLOSE in terms of quality amenities. This was not a comfortable stay, was NOT good value, even though a slightly cheaper price. Oh and they deceptively advertise a "Free Breakfast" it's more like a tiny cup of cheap coffee and a banana. There is no breakfast, they admit to this in their responses to those complaining about it in these reviews. And a very annoying issue was when we went to the front desk to inquire about where we could call to have a pizza delivered or even drive to ? (Seems like a normal question from weary travelers who spent last 8 hours on the turnpike) And the response ? "Probably would be best if you Goggled it" OMG !!! SMH !! I am be very generous with 2 stars for what I am thinking is a 1 star kind of property at a 3 star price. Don't know how many photos this will accept but I will try to show as many as I can. Oh, yeah check out the "decor". Updated: In response to owner's comment, suggest you clearly indicate on your Google Maps that this is a 1 or 2 Star hotel, with what you call "minimalist" perspective, and that contrary to your advertising, you do not offer breakfast. There was no hair dryer in the 1st floor "handicapped" room. Two adults who have spent 60+ years renting hotel rooms, so we looked very hard, but there was no hair dryer in the bathroom. Maybe one of your "minimalist's" took it with them, cause it's not there now ?
