I am really sorry to write a mediocre review for such a beautiful place, but this is all true. We visited Point Pleasant Resort over the 2021 Xmas break. Considering the tough topography, the designers and builders did a great job. The buildings are beautiful, the pools and decks are lovely, and the views are spectacular. The interiors are well furnished and equipped, with pleasant colors and decorations. Yet several things were not so great: 1- Communication before our trip was pretty bad. We emailed several times and asked for some info on the Covid tests. They just referred us to the gov't website, which was very unhelpful. They required antigen tests, so we bought test kits at CVS and were glad to test negative. But we learned a bit too late that they only accepted BinaxNow tests. That caused a lot of stress and running around to get tested again on the day before our flight. 2- The receptionists and all other staff told us that the tap water was not safe to drink (which the manager denied in his response here, ugh!) They did not provide Brita filter pitchers in the rooms. Hotels usually offer a welcome drink and some complimentary water bottles, but not here. They sell water bottles at the reception, which feels like rip-off, not hospitality. Tip- stop by a grocery store on the way from the airport. 3- There was no reliable, password protected wifi in the room. That's a critical thing when your communication with the world depends on internet access. The Captain's Lounge had good wifi but they closed it at 5pm :-/ Tip- pay your cellphone provider for coverage so you can use your phone on the island. 4- The windows above the sliding doors to the balcony did not have shades, so the sunlight woke the kids up too early in the morning. Not getting enough good sleep made us all cranky. Tip- bring eye covers. 5- The reception and lounge were only open 8am-5pm. If you need tampons in the evening- you have to drive to the town. No manager cocktail here, can't even enjoy the lounge in the evening. Covid excuses are nonsense, it's in open air. 6- There was no housekeeping, we had to clean up and take out the trash, which really did not feel like vacation. 7- The water heater in the unit was very small. There was no water at all in the faucets for a while after two people took showers. 8- There was no shower curtain, water splashed on the bathroom floor and made a slippery mess. 9- We couldn't find the switch for the lights in the cabinet above the Murphy bed. It was so disturbing at night we had to unscrew the light bulbs. 10- It felt like a cluster of apartments, not like a fun resort. We visited the Margaritaville nearby, and also the Marriot at Frenchman's Cove, where we had lunch and went on a catamaran snorkeling cruise and then enjoyed the much nicer pool (with a water slide) and the beach. In both those resorts we met people, laughed and made friends, and it felt like the atmosphere at PPR was not conducive to all that. 11- The receptionists were not so helpful in providing clear and useful info. Here are some important tips: do not go to Lindquist beach (expensive parking, sand flies). The best beach for snorkeling and seeing tropical fish is Coki Beach. Use a GPS to get there and/or look for signs to the Coral World, at the intersection near Louie's market. 12- Driving around and parking are somewhat challenging, as the roads are steep, narrow and curved (and they drive on the left). It's a lot less constrained in the other resorts. We enjoyed our visit and loved St. Thomas, but it did not feel like a relaxing vacation. Mainly because we had to drive to the supermarket in town, buy groceries (and a lot of water), cook, wash dishes, take out the trash etc. It would have been better to stay at a nicer resort with good restaurants, with fun games and activities for the kids. We should have done more research before our trip but we were too busy at work. I hope this provides some useful info to visitors, and constructive feedback to the management at Point Pleasant.

At the beginning of July I stayed at this resort to celebrate my birthday. Check in takes awhile because they have you fill out paperwork, take a picture of you, and take a credit card down for incidentals. They let you know that they do not do any housekeeping so you have to reach out to them if you need anything like new towels, and they give you beach towels that you have to go to the office to switch out. Their hours are 8-5 I think. My main issue was the room I stayed in, E12. The ACs are on timers, which they tell you about, with a max time of 6 hours which means it will turn off while you're out during the day and also during the night while you're sleeping. This makes no sense and made this stay miserable! No one wants to spend all day in the sun to come back to a hot room, nor do they want to set an alarm for the middle of the night to add more time to the AC timer. The AC in the bedroom did not cool the room down at all! The ceiling fans in the living room, bathroom, and bedroom did not work. I let the front office know the first day we got into our room about the fans and they said maintenance was going to switch them out the next day and if I was ok with them going in if I wasn't there. I said yes and they brought me 2 plug in fans to use that night. The plug in fans were not much help unfortunately when all they were doing was blowing around warm air. The next day when I got back to my room, the ceiling fans had not been changed so I went to the office to let them know and told them that the AC was not cooling the room down either so the plug in fans weren't helping. They said they will get it checked out but nothing ever happened. I was miserable every day I got back to my room and throughout each night with the ACs shutting off and not cooling the place down. I did not say anything again because they clearly did not care! The bathroom walls had dust all over them, higher up. It looked like it was from the ceiling fan in there. And there was very little water pressure in the shower. Walking this resort was miserable as well. It is built into a mountain so you're walking up and down stairs or steep roads to get to the pools, restaurants, and your room. They do have a shuttle but it didn't make sense to use it because it couldn't take you directly to the places on the property. You still had to walk stairs. We ate at the bar on the ocean. The food was good, nothing fancy, the drinks were good (lime in da coconut was my favorite) and the servers were nice. The downside was the bugs (maybe sand fleas?) They bit all over my legs. There was bug repellent at the bar which once offered to us I used but it was too late. Over a week later and I still have the itchy bites all over my legs. I did like the location. It was away from the cruiseship area and traffic and close to some of the things I did. I also liked the size of the place and the view. When calling the resort regarding where to leave my key for early checkout, the day before, since it would've been before they open at 8 so I could make it to the airport on time, they said I needed to come in before 5pm that day to fill out more paperwork. Why is this not done or explained at check-in? I had to cut my last day short just so I could make it to the office before 5pm. This was extremely frustrating! Overall, I would not recommend staying here with the ACs being on timers and not working right. Definitely put a damper amd extra sweat on my birthday vacation.

The Hotel- This place is great!!! Let me start off by saying I did my research (Google reviews) it came in handy I must say. (The hotel has nothing to do with the 4 stars will explain later the hotel an staff gets a perfect 5) The only thing I recommend to the hotel is to inform guess that you guys have them no seeems lol (these little bugs that will eat you alive an they're really ignoring an itchy, not to mention last for a week or so) suggest them to purchase bug repellent other than that the hotel is beautiful. The Staff- Very knowledgeable, professional, an will direct you to the right path on excursions an how to get around from cab to (safari= public bus which I say take cause its only 2 dollars an you get a tour of the island to downtown a cab will run you 10 per person). Jean (light skin guy) is very very good at his job an makes a great drink yes they make you a drink every morning an at check-in, after a long flight it comes in handy your on vacation an he makes you feel like it with no hesitation. really makes you feel at ease. The dark skin guy with plaits (dreads) kinda cool but just felt as thou he was just doing his job that's it that's all, kinda seemed like he was irritated whenever we called or asked him to take us to our room. The manager (dark skin lady) you'll know who she is cause she dresses like a manager an has that Ora about her without saying it. She is sooo down to earth an makes a heavy drink lol but really cool as well lol.. The island- Yes it did suffer from two cat 5 hurricanes but the island is recovering so fast an just as beautiful (not as fast as st.john a must see it looks like it hit yesterday πŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺ but the beaches are out of this world) an they are still under construction at point pleasant but only the rooms at the top of the hill that is unavailable. Some side structures but the men working starts at about 10:30-11:00a.m so you'll be up an out by that time. Everything gets imported so its extremely high food is outrageous at the supermarket ($40 on breakfast alone bacon $10 eggs $8 cheese $8 juice 6.50 bread an sausages) everyone trying to get a dollar so watch who you spend it with an on cause they will hustle you only thing cheap is liquor an cigs πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ but we had a ball an loved every moment we shared on the island MISCELLANEOUS MUST READ- Almost forgot to mention the pics on Expedia are incorrect they look absolutely nothing like the pic on profile (that's why the 4 stars) its way much better in person we had a suite (E5) an it looked just like a villa. The price you pay at the hotel is false as well. There IS NOT a charge at hotel UNLESS you damage property an they'll explain before the charge to you at checkout. Sorry so long but I wanted to give people a 1st hand well detailed experience because this is my 1st experience going anywhere from getting on a plane to going to an island an yes people be b.s bout their reviews so you really just taking a feel for it. Just hoping when you read my review you won't have to read any more cause I gave to you how it was from start to finish. So to sum it up its well worth the trip, bring bug spray, a little more money $1500-2000 just to be on da safe side. We stayed a week an spent bout that at least, an just get around take a camera cause use up your memory trying to catch everything an enjoy yourselves an make memorable moments πŸ›«πŸ›¬πŸΎπŸΊπŸ»πŸΉπŸΈπŸΊπŸ’πŸ†πŸ’¦πŸ· cause we did an had an amazng time thanks point pleasant see you next time ✌✌

Definitely put a damper amd extra sweat on my...

We stayed a week an spent bout that at least, an just get around take a camera cause use up your memory trying to catch everything an enjoy yourselves an make memorable moments πŸ›«πŸ›¬πŸΎπŸΊπŸ»πŸΉπŸΈπŸΊπŸ’πŸ†πŸ’¦πŸ· cause we did an had an amazng time thanks point pleasant see you...
