Okay my top complaints: coffee, privacy, and the bed.
I stayed for three nights. This whole time, except the first night, I had zero access to one essential amenity I was paying for: coffee and hot tea. This was because there were no cups. I asked multiple times about it and each time it was "hopefully we will receive a shipment soon." Management doesn't seem to know that grocery sells bulk cups for emergencies like these. I have literally seen restaurants and other small businesses go on a run to get stuff like this because it's outrageous to deny your customers something they're paying for. I was flabbergasted! I had to pay for my caffeine even though I was supposed to get it here, because they were out of cups. This impacted my ability to wash my retainers and drink emergen-c (to prevent illness while traveling for a week and a half). I had been doing really good up to this point, health wise, but it's no surprise that I have a mild cold right after leaving. I'm so disappointed in The Cove.
Unto privacy: I had a random tinder guy over for a bit. I was staying alone, which they knew. They let this random person charge a drink to my room as he was leaving?! What the heck? Because "he said it would be okay" and "request a venmo from him ig?" You know how easy it is to stalk people through those apps? 🫠 I'm just glad they didn't give him my real name. But apparently, at this hotel I can go to the front desk and charge a drink to any room I know has humans in it.
Okay now into the Victorian Salem king: The bed is horrid. It think it would be fixed with a box spring, but mattresses should not sag like that between the planks of the frame. A frame like this would definitely void the warranty. Be wary of sitting at eoyhet end, lest you sink through. Be careful around the edges, for I have gained many bruises hitting then because the mattress so low to the frame. Oh, If you struggle to get up from low places, the bed (at least the bed and the purple room) is not for you. The headboard in the mattress do not go well together. It needs a whole other mattress to make it work; before I stuffed the purple pillows in between the mattress and the frame, I kept on hitting my head on the hard part. I brought my complaints to management about this and was upgraded to a suite due to the other suite they told me about being booked, but it definitely felt like they didn't believe me at first.
Other misc. complaints:
If you like to sleep in, and you're a light sleeper, be prepared to wake up. Even though I was on the second floor, I heard so many noises. This changed somewhat once I was tucked away in the corner.
If you stay here, make sure to bring your blindfolds. The curtains do not block out all the light.
If you stay here and want to hang clothes up, make sure to bring your own hangers. They do not provide you any. It doesn't look like they all provide any makeup remover or shower caps either.
The design of the suite bathtub is kinda weird and impractical. It makes me wonder if theit designer stays at hotels or uses bathtubs. The shelves were so far away from the tub and you couldn't even sit on the blocky part without getting water everywhere (including on the floor).
The microwave and ice machine is only available from 9am-11pm in the clubhouse. The clubhouse is really cute, but I'm a night owl and I wake up late (even when on vacation. No, esp on vacation).
It is really cool that we are able to punch in a code for the guest storage closet. I was able to fill up on as many tea bags as I wanted without going to the front desk. However, they were out of cups. I wish they had reusable cups- they have this big sink but like... No mini dish soap or reusable dishes? It's odd.
The decorations were pretty cute. My only gripe is that the light bulbs were different colors and I wish there was more natural light.
This place gets 2 stars for being pretty, listening to me, and being place to sleep kinda within walking distance of Salem. However, I couldn't bring myself to give them more stars after the multiple odd...
Read moreWe booked a room the weekend of Oct. 18-19 . Finding a hotel room in Salem on short notice is a miracle in itself. The weekday rates in Oct. are about $450. The rates on the weekend jump to $1200.+. With the pics online and the great reviews I decided convenience of walking to downtown rather than dealing with the traffic was what I wanted so I booked it. |It's the little things that make or break what could be great to just average or less experience...The good, the bad and the ugly| |Good|1.It's about a 17 minute walk to the Salem commons. An easy walk |2. . The remodeled decor is pleasantly applealing, mid century modern |3. Parking easy and adequate|4. The courtyard is a great outdoor space. |5. We did get to check in earlier than 2 pm (paid an extra fee for early check in) ||The bad and downright ugly||1. Sleek kettle for making coffee, however super tacky with the Folgers instant tea bag style coffee and a paper cup! Screaming CHEAP!! At the very least how about a mug ||2. The windows had no screens! Found this out when we went to open the windows as it was very warm and we could not get the thermostat to work to put the AC on. The windows were absolutely filthy!!! No wonder housekeeping had the heavy curtains pulled shut, they don't want you to see how disgusting the windows were. ||3. The toiletries; They were not in a locked device to prevent others from tampering with. What they had were three 1/2 filled bottles in the shower of body wash, shampoo and conditioner that were covered in product. YUK! Needless to say showered with no soap...||4. The water in the bathroom sink smelled like sewer... ||5. The outlet in the bedroom was not flush with the wall, it stuck out about a 1/2 inch. ||6. The heat vents were in the floor and the one in the bathroom was covered with rust...||7. The wall near the shower was buckled and crumbling where water is constantly running on it.||8, The shower curtain had pink mold along the bottom...yuk||9. This is NOT a hotel. It's a motel. No restaurant or bar. They should remove HOTEL from the name||10. Bright outdoor lighting shinning in through the tops of the curtain rod all night. ||11. Area rug was not very clean, it was stained and the laminate floor was not washed and covered in deep scratches. ||While it wasn't terrible, I would not book again. The price for the convieniance simply did not reflect the outrageous rate. That one's totally on me, but for all the other issues, that's on them. Lipstick on a pig still...
Read moreIf you’re looking for an airbnb that looks great in pictures but has wild animals running around the complex and trying to break into your room at all hours of the night, this is your place! Each room comes with access to a chicken that will peck at your door, allow itself in when the door is opened, and even brings all your neighbors to your door because they are so excited about seeing a chicken in the wild. Do you like the sounds of the city? How about right out side your window? Well look no further. This luxury airbnb delivers with its sounds of fire trucks, ambulances and if you’re really lucky… car alarms sounding off incessantly throughout the night. I mean, what else could you ask for??? Oh, you want more? How about a shower that backs up into the bathroom with hair and human ick coming out of the drain. But wait, there’s more! Clean sheets? No…. We opened up the sofa bed to a lovely array of peubic hair and long black hair. Didn’t know we ordered the CSI:Salem themed room.
Seriously, We paid a lot of money to stay. We had a newborn, eight year old and two 21 year olds. No one was able to sleep because the building is a frat house at night. No one was respectful of the quiet time the motel has posted, 4am and people were partying in the “clubhouse” room next to us that is for all guests to utilize until 11pm, when it closes. There is no one on property to assist with any of the guests. There were no sheets, no blankets or pillows for the pull out couch. The storage room had only tissues and one bath mat, completely empty. The fire alarm had gone off around 10 pm, our baby was in a diaper and a blanket outside in a downpour as I had to get multiple people out of the room. No one was at the building to mediate the situation and the emergency number was not being monitored. 45 minutes later we were able to go back inside. All of this because of some idiot smoking weed in his room. Once back inside the shower had backed up with cloudy gross water while showering. No one answered my call again. Then there was a car alarm outside our window going off all night long until 9am. Finally someone answered, and they said they had it under control. That wasn’t true. It never stopped. Seems crazy all these events would happen in one night. Our trip was cut short, we drop 3 hours home on no sleep with a sick 9 year old and a extremely angry 4 month old. Thanks for the stay, it...
