Super nice dude, clearly very passionate about food as it comes through in the flavors. I got a chopper cheese and dined in, house chips and pickle were a pleasant surprise, perfectly toasted fresh bun and well balanced sandwich with just the right amounts of beef, cheese, mushrooms, onion strings and spicy Mayo. I will definitely be back to try the empanadas!
EDIT - I did make it back for some empanadas and holy cow am I glad I did! They were freshly cooked and delightfully plump, packed with a savory beef filling. The dough was flaky and light (not thick and heavy) and bonus points for great structural integrity. These did not fall apart as I took bites doused in their house made hot sauce.
I usually avoid empanadas for lunch out of a fear of feeling bloated and way too full afterwards but 2x of these with a topo chico and I was right as rain and ready for the 2nd half of my workday. FYI I do think they switch up the fillings daily so they may not have beef. Just be sure to ask and I am certain whatever filling it is you will not be...
Read moreI must review this restaurant. We stopped in because we thought it might be cuban food. Looking for empanadas. Instead we ordered several meatball sandwiches and one tuna sandwich. Everyone said the meatball sandwiches were really good and my daughter said I needed to try a bite of her tuna.
Wow. Best tuna sandwich in my life and I'm old. Never seen tuna prepared this way. The taste was incredible. There were big fresh cuts of tuna on the prep table. I would travel back from Kansas just for the tuna. I went to tell the cook how good it was and found out he is a trained chef. Every menu item was designed by him. It shows. I told him I stopped to get an empanadas but decided on the meatball over the chorizo.
He said I must try the chorizo as he had designed it too. Wow. What a great taste and the hot sauce with it was fantastic.
Well this place was a great surprise on our trip and we were all very pleased we...
Read moreIf you haven't been to ChezCasa in Salem... do yourself a favor and go! Keenan, the owner, runs a great place. Service is top notch, place is very clean. Definitely get the empanada, flavor rotates, we had the beef and it was delicious. Can't wait to go back and try the other kinds. It comes with a heavenly tomatillo dip. We also had the broccoli chickpea salad, ahi tuna sandwich and portobello mushroom sandwich. Everything was delectable. The sandwiches come with homemade chips (the seasoning is really yummy) and a vinegar pickle. We all raved about the food. We also bought homemade 'hot hot' sauce. Would highly recommend. Everything is homemade and fresh. Can't...
