Well, as far as the appearance of the campround and ammeneties, i would give it more like a 3 out of 5. No hot tub, sadly. I didn't see volleyball court either. Bu it has 2 pools. Little playground that definitely needs some updates. Jump pads, which kids love. Also, the section of the campground is on the water and near wildlife preserve. Also has a dog park, which didn't appear to have grass in it. And the area they have for you to walk your dogs to go to bathroom it has marshy green stagnant water, which my dogs would immediately want to go lay in (which we didn't bring them because they aren't the most well behaved yet). But a lot of dogs would want to investigate the water and either sniff it drink it lay in it etc. Not good. Im sure they would get super sick if they drank it. And i cant imagine how bad they would smell after laying in it. The cabin we stayed in was nice we stayed in a deluxe cabin. Except when we first got here the first night went to shower and we were told everything was provided all the linens, and body care products etc. All the necessities. Well i got shower their was body wash and a tiny less then ounce of 2 in one shampoo/conditioner and it was like using a bar of soap on my hair literally my hair fell out in handfulls when got out of shower, thats not even the complaint, i got in the shower and it had 3 compartments for shampoo conditioner and body wash. So we had just got back from the store, so when i got in the shower and realized they were empty, i was furious. then i found the tiny 2 in one stuff. So pay attention to that. Or ask before you come and / or bring your own stuff. Cuz it appeared they had everything, then came to realize they didn't but had tiny tiny samples that were supposed to be enough for up to 8 ppl. That was one of the most upsetting things. Also, there was no blow dryer, which to some ppl maybe not a big deal but we usually stay at the campground at cedar point and all these things are provided. Another issue we had was the first night we were here it was a Friday night memorial weekend, and quiet time is at 11. Well, at 1105, we got told to turn our music down, which wasn't loud at all. i tested it and walked to the next sites in all directions, and it couldn't be heard. Meanwhil, the campground was pretty empty, or at least the cabins all around us were empty. Surprisingly, they are still empty, but im starting to understand why. Meanwhile, on the website, it warns about some weekends. It's loud during bike week and people partying late into the night and some other stuff, warning ppl about it. And then warning ppl about the train that rolls thru on constant basis making all kinds of noise. the traffic from the road is also pretty loud. But what was funny was we could hear notorious B.I.G. juicy playing the whole way across the cabin sites, which they were the furthest point from us blasting it for another hr and weren't told to turn it down. Guess they don't like dave matthews' band. ALSO bring some bleach spray cuz if staying in cabins cuz apparently they don't ever clean their ac units or the filters they are absolutely disgusting full of mold in every single ac unit it was so gross. I will say the location isnt bad your on the water or wildlife preserve area which is nice and the cabin was pretty clean. Its nice they provide a nice table and fire pit and grill. The price to me is kinda outrageous to me cuz we would rather spend the extra 50 a night to stay at the campground at cedar point. And you don't have to drive and everything is provided and its clean. And they dont complain if u play music after 11pm that is at a reasonable level. If the price was lower then what we paid per night it would be worth it. But to me the rates are to high for the value of what u get. Definitely probably the worst koa ive ever been to and have been to a bunch. This one def needs some improvement...
Read moreI'll start by saying, we've always had a pleasant stay prior to this stay. I take my grandbabies there when we go to cedar point. I always tell everyone, the grandbabies seem to like the camping (we get cabins, they call "mamaws tiny house".) They love the bounce pillows, pools, tractor train, and over priced craft station. BUT THIS STAY WAS DIFFERENT!! I don't know if it is under new management or ownership, not only because of the decline in the upkeep, but the unwillingness to remedy our situation. My finances wasn't in line with renting our normal cabin, so I got the same kind of cabin with its own restroom, but the bunkbed was in the same room as mine, making it a few bucks cheaper UNTIL they charged my bank account! Here's the deal, was the charge for them trying to mask the smell, with spray or scent pucks, I complained about, not once but twice?! MOMENTS AFTER CHECK IN, I went to the office to discuss the pungent raid smell, mixed with stale cigarette smells. I got "it shouldn't" and that was it! Not a switch of cabins when there were 2 identical cabins that remained vacant the whole time we were there or any other remedy. So rather than unpack the expensive items (electronics) from my vehicle, we left the patio door open and headed to cedar point. Needless to say, when we got back it was no better. So to add insult to injury, we sleep with the door open as it was a bit cooler but not cool enough to be of comparison of using the ac, I'm sure is part of the upcharge of said cabin. Unprepared to feed the grandbaby, we get a text the following morning, that they couldn't make breakfast for our planned purchase. So on our way to McDonald's and to walmart for food for the remaining time, I stop in the office to , now complain. I only get, "we'll go check it out". We go to McDonald's and decide to just go to cedar point and shop on the way back. I stop back in the office to get, "I think housekeeping was there". We get back to the cabin to find, they either sprayed something or placed some smelly devices under the beds or something. So now it's a raid like scent, over nicotine, masked with something they've included. Let me tell you, I'm a smoker. I don't smoke in my home because it's fowl and my grandbabies shouldn't have to suffer because of my bad decision. So if I can smell it, you know it's bad! With my 2 yr old granddaughter waking with allergy symptoms, we decide to just stay away from the cabin as much as we can, only returning to lay our heads. Even with pictures of nicotine stained items and poor paint job to cover it, and them being there, they deny it ever being smoked in. I wish I could attach the pictures here. The microwave, range hood, ac, smoke detector, etc, is nicotine stained. So besides the horrific stay where we couldn't really stay but just lay our heads, they overcharge from what was stated on my reservation!! Am I charged for their inconvenience of having to mask the smell or the device used to mask the smell?! I left the cabin as it was, using none of their supplies, towels, or anything, as we brought our own and showered at the water park, also. We did go to the pool which was pretty clean. The public restrooms were still gross as usual and that's why I never rented a glorified shed after renting it the first of many stays. Because, despite complaints we made to staff about the overwhelming smell and the mold, no visible measures were taken to rectify that situation in all the years we've been staying. I may give it another try as camping is a big deal to the grandbabies as stated, but in all reality, they're about as expensive as a hotel anymore. Being a diamond member with Hilton, I may just try the tru or Hampton hotel for halloweekends! NOTE: I was going to leave this alone until I seen the upcharge for what? Another pungent smell added?! BTW, it was cabin MP213 so if you get assigned this cabin, refuse it...
Read moreThe Good: The newer cabins with the wood interior are great. Mostly clean (see below for details on that). No bugs on the floor or walls. Furnished well with all needed towels, bedding, and kitchen utensils. 3 Flatscreen TVs with lots of channels. Full bathroom. 3 air conditioners. The WIFI is decent too. In the main bedroom there were reading lights on both sides of the bed and on both sides there were electrical outlets with USB charging ports. Very cool. They had expensive Weber BBQ grills at every cabin which was a nice touch. Very heavy duty outdoor chairs and table, rocking bench, newer fire pit with pavers around it. Poured concrete patios were nice. The Not So Good: in the newer cabins there needs to be more attention to detail in cleaning. The fan blades were moderately dusty on the top and when on would spread clumps of dust around. Dead Bugs in the lights on the ceiling fans light bowl fixtures. Bugs collected in the light cover of the bathroom exhaust fan. The air conditioners all had a light on that indicated “clean filters” and if you take a light to the inside of each unit they are very clogged with dust and gunk. Very gross. The floors have never been mopped and cleaned properly because if you walk around with bare feet the bottom of your feet will be black. Even with socks on. Your socks will be black. The older cabins that look like trailer homes and don’t have a camp ground feel were very dated. Bugs were more evident inside. Overall clean but the one we initially had was a bit dirty with dirt on the mattress and walls. Broken shower curtain rod barely attached in the wall. The cabin smelled funny. Fire extinguisher barely attached to the wall. Screws falling out of attachments. Very dated look. There were no electrical outlets in the bed areas. We were not satisfied and requested one of the newer cabins. The staff said they totally understood and gladly switched us to a newer cabin with the wood interior.
The park itself was not the nicest KOA I’ve been to as this one was plopped in the middle of a city area. You hear a train go by regularly and it shakes the ground at your site. It is near a major roadway so it can be loud and backs right up to a large car dealership with bright lights. In the back of the camp ground you can walk to an area along side the bay with nice wood chairs to watch the sunrise or just look at the water. They have plenty of spaces but mostly not shaded. The tree shaded areas seem to be seasonal area only. They have 2 nice pools, a decent play scape for kids, a cool jumping pillow and nice activities planned for kids. A well stocked camp store with friendly staff. Good cooked breakfast options available to purchase. Ice cream, baked items brought in from a local bakery. The grounds could use some attention with overgrown grass, weeds. They seem to not have a standard for the seasonal tree area as that area there are very over grown grass and weed areas and junk and clutter from the campers. Some areas looked not well kept and trashy. The tree covered sites seemed very tight to each other. Campers were right on top of each other. I liked the pet friendly sites that come with a large partially covered pen for dogs. Very nice touch I haven’t seen at other campgrounds. There is room for improvement in...
