Great location being only 2 1/2 miles to the Cedar Point parking lot. Room was clean and comfortable, bed was comfortable and provided a nice sleep. The room also had a mini fridge and a small microwave which is a nice touch and I like having to put some food and drinks in to save money at times for quick meals versus eating out constantly. The pool is nice and also open late until around 11 pm but you can hear the kids screaming outside sometimes until it closes down for the night. Not a big deal since people are just having fun but if you’re an early sleeper you may not like that possibility. I could just hear some kids yelling and screaming occasionally when I was in my room watching TV.
Breakfast was good as well with a good selection. Only complaints would be noisy neighbors and the price ($200+ for Saturday night, $140 for a Sunday night). For an extra $20 I could have stayed at Cedar Point Express Hotel which is a nicer place to stay and gives you early entry to Cedar Point if you’re not a season pass holder. That doesn’t apply to me since I am but if that’s something that matters to you and your family the extra little bit to stay at the Express Hotel would be worth it along with the nicer accommodations it provides. I just wanted to try something different this time and thought I’d give this place a try. The noisy neighbors aren’t completely the hotels fault but the building is older and allows some sound to travel between rooms. The room would be comparable to a nicer Red Roof Inn or Super 8. I would have felt a lot better about the price if it was under $100 night for what I got here and the value out of it. But I guess the expensive price has to do with it being next to Cedar Point during August and peak season at Cedar Point. But I’ve stayed in 4-5 star hotels around the country for the same price I’ve seen this place advertised for at times.
Overall I would stay here again for the location and if the price is right for when I need to stay overnight in the area in the future. There’s also other nicer places to stay for not that much more. But if you get a good deal on this place through a Hotwire deal or something and want a comfortable and clean place to sleep I recommend South Shore Inn. Basically any complaints I have were minor. I was still happy with the stay. My opinion is in line with most reviews I’ve seen for this place. 4 out of 5 stars is reasonable to me...
Read moreThe room, price, pool, amenities, cleanliness, location, etc, are all perfect. It seemed to be an independently-run, hot spot for people looking for a quick commute to Cedar Point. 8 minutes ain't bad.
But the main reason I am composing this review is for the outstanding customer service.
Normally, I don't mind subpar customer service, cuz i have the mindset of someone who feels quite independent navigating the services or goods a business has to offer.
But what if you NEED help? The first full day of our stay, my daughter and I went to Cedar Point, and quite quickly found that our only source of phone and internet, my smartphone, was flying out of my pocket and off the roller coaster. I managed to make it back to the hotel with printed directions from Cedar Point staff, but when I got there I needed to call my wife, and South Shore Inn let me use the desk phone to make the long distance phone call.
South Shore Inn staff also helped me find the local Best Buy with printed off Google Maps directions from their office printer, as well as verbal directions to help interpret them, and they even tried to help me set up my new phone when I was stuck, help me locate the old one, and call my wife about those issues as well.
I probably used their local advice, tech advice, and desk phone multiple times each.
OK, I may be revealing myself as a bit incompetent out there in the world, but, either way, the staff went above and beyond to help me, when I was just trying to have a quality one on one trip with my daughter to go to Cedar Point and to explore Sandusky.
My daughter and I may return to Cedar Point as soon as next year, and, if we do, we will DEFINITELY be staying at...
Read moreSo I was scared booking this room based on some reviews I had seen. I was traveling from NC to visit cedar point for the weekend so I just wanted somewhere to shower and sleep. Nothing fancy, no frills, no 5 star accommodations for a decent price. And this place hit all the points.
We arrived Saturday morning around 1am and the desk clerk was super friendly and fast in getting us checked in and finding our room. We had called earlier to inform them we gad a late arrival time and he assured us he would be there, and he was.
When we entered the room (248) , I went in alone to do a bug inspection (as you should do everywhere). I found one sock under the bed near the headboard and a Dorito under the other but everything looked clean otherwise. The beds were firm but not too firm. Adequate pillow support and the hot water couldn’t have been any hotter without boiling (I like to be red when I get out of a shower). There was a smaller tv (we never turned it on) and a mini fridge (which was super cold). There was a good sized desk in the room if you’re on business. There was a nice looking pool with a hot tub, lounging chairs and a slide (we never used it so cannot comment on the water quality, chloride level, etc)
The ONLY negatives would be:
-the tub floor is slippery. Some of those non-stick stickers on the bottom of the tub would make a world of a difference IMO. -if you’re taller, the shower head may be too short. I’m 5 foot 8 and I had to crouch a little to wash my armpits and hair, lol.
The breakfast in the morning was basic but filling. Saying all that, I will definitely stay here again. The price was incredible for being less than 5 minutes from...
