Me and my wife spent a couple of nights one weekend at the St. James hotel. And the only issue we had with the hotel was A/C problem. We had a staff member that went up with us to take us to our room to find that the A/C was not working. change rooms three times before we found a workeding A/C. But once that was resolved it wasn't bad at all. Now on some of the reviews I've seen we didn't experience those issue at all. The room were very clean with clean bed linen. We saw no roaches no mice problems no bad smells no molds just a decent hotel with a friendly and helpful staff. I have to say our stay was quite pleasent . Now if your looking for fancy hotel then you pay luxury for a fancy hotel. But not at $60 or $70 bucks a night. If you do your research you would know that this hotel was built in 1837 and all the rooms are set with old furniture to try to match that area of time except for the luxury of having A/C lol. The reason we stayed in the hotel was for the history of it like legendary frank and Jessie James supposily had spent time in this hotel as they was going here and there. Rather true or not just the thought of this history was still cool and fun. No we didn't see any ghost but it does give you that eree feeling lol. And the hotel bar and resaraunt was a great experience as well. At the time we stayed there they had a celebrity chief Carlos Brown whom have caitered to quite a few of well known celebrities just look it up and you can read up on him. Not only did we eat at the hotel restaurant and bar but got to meet the celebrity chief Carlos Brown himself. we also got pictures taken with him and got his autograph . And the history with in Salma was worth the trip with the Edmund Pettis bridge, and live oak Cemetary full of Confederate shoulders graves and the national voting rights museume and a flea market and so much more to see. The hotel was a great experience for me...
Read moreWe stayed here in January for part of my sons wish trip. All that we had in the room was our bag with our clothing and our jackets. And 1 opened small bag of potato chips that only had crumbs in. My son and I were in one bed and sleeping. At 2 in the morning, I woke to a noise coming from the other bed with the chip bag. I quick jumped up to turn on the light by the bed and on the bed next to us, with just our jackets and that empty small chip bag were mice!!! They jumped down and I thought they had left. I left the light on then and around 3 I thought maybe if I left the light on, because I am TERRIFIED of mice, that they would know someone is here. I layed down and soon after the waterbottles on the bench next to the tv holding our bag with out clothing in started moving, I jumped up again and they started jumping down to the floor from the bench!!! This motel was so run down, the rug by the door, you could tell that mice were chewing on it. I would not ever stay there again!!! For a hotel to have that many mice in their hotel room.. tells me that they do not take care of it! I would recommend going to the Holiday Inn behind this hotel and bypass this one as soon as...
Read moreI will start by saying that this is a beautiful hotel, the architecture and gardens are very pretty. The reason I gave this property only 2 starts is because it's very poorly maintained to the point that it literally seems like it's going to fall apart any second, I'll attach some pics so you can have a idea. Second. This is the cheapest hotel we could find in town (most affordable), so I guess we got our money's worth... The first thing we noticed walking in to the room was the smell, very musty, we had to bring our own lysol to freshen the air. Towels and pillowcases had stains on them. Dirty walls and worn doors. Big leak coming from the bathtub fossett. We were also told upon check in that the pool was closed because it had a leak and nobody could find where... well, we went to see the pool and immediately thought "this thing doesn't have only one leak!", I've never seen a pool in worst shape than this one, it had cracks all over!. It is heartbreaking to see such a beautiful property with great potential being neglected like this, this hotel desperately...
