Got in late due to delays in Chicago. When I first checked into my room I noticed that the WiFi wasn't working for me, I called the front desk and she said that it was down because they were getting a new provider, she made it sound like it shouldn't be a big deal because I could still plug my computer into the wall and it would work.I needed to let my family know I had made it and the signal is weak in this area.
I went to the bathroom to blow my nose and there were no tissues in the dispenser so I reached for the toilet paper and the steel holder fell out of the marble counter and landed on my foot!! When I picked it up not only did I notice that there wasn't even any hardware to hold it in place but that there were also little scraps of paper on the floor in the corner.
As I walked back out into my room I stepped in some sticky stuff on the carpet, there were also little bits of glitter. I pulled the top covers off the bed and realized that they had not changed the linens since the last guest checked out. For the first time ever I called the front desk and demanded a different room.
I got moved to a two queen room that was better but still nasty. Everything was "okay" until I went to turn the TV on. The TV said no signal and the remote didn't work. I called the front desk a THIRD time. She came up and got the cable working but the remote wouldn't change the volume or turn the TV off or on, I had to do that myself. Tired and frustrated I said good enough I just want to get some sleep.
I laid down finally around midnight. Just as I was getting comfortable the phone rang. I went to answer it and realized it wasn't the hotel phone, once I turned the light on I noticed that the girl had left the hotel cordless phone in my room and people were calling the hotel!! I called her for a FOURTH time and told her to come and get her phone. But she never did come to get the hotel's phone, eventually I took it down to the front desk but couldn't find anyone so I left it on the counter.
She said that the hotel was going to "comp" my stay, give me a bunch of IHG points, and possibly a voucher for a future stay at another HIE location. All I had to do was talk to someone at the front desk the next morning. When I went to the front desk the next morning there was no one around and I didn't have time to wait around so I went to work.
The next morning the fire alarm went off at 5am for no reason. I finally caught someone at the front desk and talked to him about my experience. He said that this was the first time he had heard about anyone having any issues with the hotel. He looked on the computer (at least he made it look like he did) and couldn't find anything about it there. I told him I was going to file a complaint and he just shrugged me off. In the end he discounted my room a couple bucks.
Interesting note: The staff appears to hate the management and blames them for a lot of the issues. When I brought up the WiFi being down to the guy he said that it was the service and that management was too cheap to change providers. I told him that's not the story I got from the girl when I checked in and he just gave me a...
Read moreMy stay was a good one, the room was clean.. The bedding was very comfortable and I had a decent nights sleep in the one bed I could use by the door. The queen bed by the window that was my first choice was not usable because the A/C unit was leaking and the carpet in that whole area was soaking wet.. Now it was only discovered because I had removed my shoes and thankfully my socks while walking to plug in my Bi-Pap Machine. And the nice eating table for two was in the line of fire of the serious leakage from A/C unit. The unit did keep the room cooled but continued to leak.. I did also find that the refrigerator and microwave were unplugged from wall when attempting to use them. Both item were found to work and were utilized since I needed my insulin cooled and freeze pack refrozen.. Since it was late there was nothing to be done about the moisture and wetness of that side of the room and the front desk stated that maintenance would be called to check it out the next day and not tonight. So I just settled in for the night. Now that's would be good for the next days occupant. Now after waking the next day I walked the halls to the included breakfast and was exposed to an excellent tasting breakfast in the breakfast area. Mr. Eddie provides one of the best breakfast experiences that I've had over my 8 days in hotels rooms on my trip from New Orleans to Chesapeake, VA and back. All of my other breakfast experiences were average but this was a superior experience.. The fluffy eggs and well cooked bacon, fluffy biscuits, even instant grits selection and heated cinnamons rolls etc. Mr. Eddie's delicious well prepared breakfast made it all worth the stay.. I could see that this hotel rooms had been in very good condition, but it has what appears to be heavy use by regular construction crews usage and that's business. It will soon be time to restore rooms to a higher reconditioned corporate standards. I noticed a lot of rooms that morning that looked like spare parts areas. Note: I was given a discount the next day.. Staff on duty should visually check room for IHG standard before occupancy which I know are a corporate requirement. Overall my short overnight stay will not effect my future perception of IHG hotels. Sincerely, Thank You!...
Read moreI grew up in Selma, during what I consider it's more vibrant and prosperous years. The city appeared to be in a much better situation and many big businesses [such as hotels] were doing well and being well-maintained. || Nowadays, this is not the case so much. My heart gets heavy with sadness when I look at this town and see so many of the places I loved to visit either run down or no longer in existence. However, there are a few places still standing, doing this town proud and keeping the area as "alive" and thriving as it can possibly be, given the circumstances. One such place is the Holiday Inn Express. This property sits in a convenient location, off Hwy 80/Highland Avenue. It is very nearby the Vaughan Regional Medical Center. || Within a few miles is a variety of fast-food restaurants and shopping centers. Also a short drive away are popular tourist sites, such as the Historic Interpretive Center, Edmond Pettus Bridge, and the National Voting Rights Museum.||The rooms and suites are lovely-looking and spacious. The recent renovations are being kept up and cleanliness is an obvious priority here. There's an outdoor pool, an on-site mini mart and more.||The staff is extremely courteous, friendly and helpful. Within the 1st hour of our stay, we accidentally lost our keycard in the card reader slot and had to ask for assistance retrieving the card and regaining entry into our room.||In the mornings, there is a wonderful complimentary breakfast area with a variety of food options, both hot and cold. On July 10, Brittany did a fantastic job setting up and keeping items stocked. It takes a load off, mentally, when I don't have to worry about a family meal time. It's a financial benefit too.||My family has been staying here for over 10 years and plan to continue to patronize this business as one that values their customers and makes necessary investments to...
