Belmont Inn in Shelbyville, was an unexpected treasure! The proprietors (Mark and Linda) have recently purchased it and are renovating it. They have their work cut out for them, but if you let the work they are doing dissuade you from staying here, you are missing out.||||To begin with, Mark and Linda are amazing. We spoke to Mark on our arrival, he was sitting up on a scaffolding working on the exterior of the manor. He was very welcoming, and told us where everything was and that if we needed anything we should let them know immediately. Later that evening, we were walking around the outside of the inn just to look at it, and we saw him again. He took a break from his work to tell us about the inn, how they came to own it, and what their plans are for it. We didn't talk to Linda until we left the next morning. We were on our way out and she was sweeping the back terrace. She wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay and thanked us for choosing the Belmont Inn. In a day and age when so many people only see their customers as a necessary evil to earn a buck, Mark and Linda genuinely seem to enjoy being in the hospitality industry and seeing to their visitors' needs.||||Now to the inn itself. Yes, there are some renovations going on, but the inn is very clean, comfortable, and you feel more like you're staying at a friend's house than at a hotel. The kitchen/dining area is well stocked, and they invited us to help ourselves to anything there, not just for breakfast. Our room was clean, comfortable and well decorated. Ever for as "historic" as the room looked and was decorated (including a bed with a 3-4 foot high mattress complete with a little set of step to get up in it), they still gave thought to modern conveniences, right down to the USB adapters on either side of the bed to plug in your phone chargers.||||The check-in and out procedures were painless. We paused for a moment when we went to the website and saw there was no way to reserve a room online, but if you text the number provided, Linda will tell you what rooms are available, reserve it for you, and send you an email that you can use to pay. The whole process was no more complicated than booking a room online. Once our room was booked, she sent me a text with the code to the front door and to our room. It was that easy. The next morning, we texted that we were checking out, and we were on our way.||||In short, I would encourage anyone who is looking for a unique, reasonably priced place to stay in or around Shelbyville to stay at the Belmont Inn. Treat yourself, and support some local business owners who are genuinely doing what they are...

Read moreWe arrived at this lovely antebellum house that is currently under some renovations after the distillery tour in Lynchburg. We thought it would be interesting to stay in the area overnight instead of driving back to Nashville. We originally had the King room booked but agreed to go downstairs to the smaller Queen room due to dust from the roof reno. We didnt have our door code , as we forgot to make note of it from the confirmation email. So we rang the bell and waited until Mark , one of our hosts opened the door to let us in. he then showed us to our room and gave us an informative orientaton including some helpful suggestions for dinner restaurants. ||This was all fine but I was left wondering what would have happened if we had let ourselves in and did not get the orientation. I would have had several questions and there wasnt a manual or anything with information i it in the room. I have traveled extensively and ususally you get a personal greeting and orientation or there is a welcome book of some kind so you have the information you need for the stay. I never saw Mark again and we didnt meet Linda, his wife, who was very cordial and helpful on the phone. We didnt see or hear any other guests either. It was comfprtable, clean and quiet but I feel a B and B sets itself apart from hotels with the personal hosting and hospitality. This part was missing. I would like to visit again in the spring, with warmer weather and when the renovations are complete so we can have some time chatting with the owners and finding out more about this wonderful home and...
