(Stayed Thursday Aug. 18- Friday Aug. 19, 2022) Perks and downfalls to this stay. But I will highly recommend this hotel after the bed upgrade.
I actually didn't sleep a wink and the springs bruised one of my knees and the center of my back. Upon checking out, the front desk asked how our stay was, I mentioned the mattress was in desperate need of an upgrade, the front desk informed me that new mattresses were coming the following week. The size of their king was great, just the bed was actually the worst I have ever laid on at any hotel. I checked the mattress, and it was dated about 20 years back, nor did it have a protector on it. We checked in very late as we were driving as far as we could on a trip, so from 3am- checkout, I received no sleep unfortunately. A few places in the room were dusty, just uncommon areas like the desk chair legs, hangers and closet area, and the tops of the curtains should be done a few times per year when deep cleaning. Our curtain popped off when we went to close it, and while hanging it back up, much debris fell down. The shower pressure was FANTASTIC! By far the best water pressure from any hotel I have had. But I did have to clean the sprayer, nozzle, and hose. There was quite a bit of mildew on it. It easily cleaned up though. The drain area had some cracking that appeared like hair, but its just from overtime wear. I would say a few touchups would help the bathroom area, especially the rusted metal around the lights and bathroom tissue holder. Towels were soft! Hard to come by soft towels at similar hotels. Another positive amenity this BW has going for it was breakfast. This BW provided an outstanding breakfast!! Great selection and extremely good tasting! I highly recommend grabbing a bite to eat at this hotel before checking out!
The room appeared to have been rather freshly painted. The sparkling ceiling was awesome! Looked like the twinkling night sky! There were some markings on the walls from wear and tear, but nothing too horrible. I would recommend updating the doors to the rooms as well. The room we stayed in was a wooden door with a lock. They were nowhere near soundproof. When i heard others in the hall, I felt like I had to whisper to have a private conversation. I would probably book here again as long as the...
Read moreOur family goes to South Hill once a year for our family reunion for the past 20 years . We chose BWP because our experience last year was great and the price was right. What a difference a year makes! This was hands down one of the filthiest rooms I had encountered. My mother in law & I had to go to WALMART for cleaning supplies before we could use the showers in our rooms. The toilet had poop residue in the room my grandmother used. In my room their was an odd odor coming from the AC unit. When we woke up the housekeeping staff handed us a stack of towels as requested. Then I heard one employee say they gave me towels and did not have to clean the room. I told them, "No, our room still needs to be cleaned". As I walk to my mother in laws room, I hear on say , Hmm. We will get that later. When we returned from the lake, the room had not been cleaned and notes were on the bed say there were personal items on the bed. The personal item was a phone cord that had been moved from the nightstand and a pair of my son's sweatpants that were on a chair when we left the room. I know this because I picked them up off the floor prior to leaving the room. The room connected I stayed in was cleaned & the bed was made although I left my pajamas on my pillow. When I went to the front desk to complain the response was lackadaisical. My mother in law's room did not get cleaned at all. The next morning the toilet started overflowing. After that was fixed the tub backed up. At that point I was done. We headed down to breakfast before leaving. At breakfast our family which stayed in 5 different rooms all talked about our dirty rooms. We usually rotate between the 3 hotels on Thompson in South Hil. The Best Western Plus has been removed from...
Read moreIf only I could give zero stars. The hotel itself always felt dark and uninviting. My room was fairly clean, until you look deeper and see things like pink mold growing in the showerhead. I get that this is a budget hotel, but it seems like absolutely every corner was cut: the bathrooms have no fans to ventilate steam (hence the mold), the beds are rock hard with low thread-count sheets that are gritty, the pillows are lumpy, the towels are cheap and also gritty, and the free internet is so slow and unreliable, I spent most of my time trying to figure out how to share my phone's data connection with my laptop and pray to the cell phone gods that it would work because it was significantly faster than the wifi -- and with no option to pay to upgrade my speed, even. The "food" served for breakfast was beyond the pale. I know those "eggs" came from a powder mix -- there's no way that came from a chicken. I quit after one bite; they were like flavorless yellow sponge. The owner/manager of the establishment also tried to tack on extra charges to my travelling companion for supposedly smoking in her room, completely ignoring the fact that all of his smoking patrons congregate outside her room, not 15 feet from her window and A/C unit to smoke tobacco and marijuana (we both smelled this, and I smelled it before even knowing where the smokers congregate). Utter nonsense. We checked out 3 days early to stay at the Fairfield Marriott and couldn't be happier we did. Don't stay here unless you literally can't afford anything else, and even then I would recommend checking out the Days Inn or another...
