My original review (included at the bottom) was written "2 years ago" according to Google. I had previously given the hotel 4 of 5 stars. I am amending it because Google does not allow a second review of the same location. My review as of July 2021 is one star. I made a (non-refundable) reservation for this year. After I had done so, one of the locals said, "Oh no. That's where the meth heads stay now." Since the reservation already had my money I went ahead and stayed there even though the potential exposure to chemicals was worrying. The elevator did not work the entire weekend. Isn't this actually illegal? I should have called the fire marshal. Someone said it had been having trouble since the Monday prior. I also heard from staff that 1) they were not permitted by the owner to call maintenance because the owner wanted to fix it him/herself, 2) they had tried to call the elevator fix it person but he wasn't answering his phone, and 3) the elevator fix it person would be in on Monday. Who knows which (if any) was correct. My door keys did not work. I had to trudge from the center of the hotel all the way down to the end of the hallway to get to the stairs, then all the way back down my third floor hallway to get to my room which of course was near the elevator in the center of the hotel. I had the cards rekeyed, trudged back up and they still didn't work. I trudged back down and a manager had to use an actual master key to enter my room. This meant that if I ever left I had to go find a manager to get back in. This seemed to be a reasonable solution to the manager. They would not give me a different room. Finally she sent a different employee with a set of card keys that did work. BUT the deadbolt on my door did not work. It would bump into the door frame rather than go into the slot that it should, so I was unable to fully lock my door. BOTH fitted sheets on the double beds had stains on them. I'm sure the sheets were clean, but stained sheets need to be tossed. Same with the washcloths and towels. Of the 6 that came with the room, I used 2- the washcloth was totally dingy from someone who had scrubbed something black, and the towel was unraveling. Both of those should be tossed yet they were being used. Breakfast was okay, though they did run out of items on both mornings I was there. There was a ceiling tile in the middle of the first floor hallway (the one I repeatedly passed on the way to the staircase) that had been pulled, apparantly to fix a leaky pipe of some sort. The neighboring tiles were stained and nobody was actively working on it. The exit door at the end of the hallway (which were supposed to be cardkey access) never locked, and when I had once walked around the back of the hotel and tried to get in near the kitchen area, my cardkey did not open that door. There was what looked like a burn hole in the carpet in my non-smoking room. I heard (this isn't first hand knowledge) from a person who worked there that there were a series of rooms on the second floor that smelled of marijuana and it took ages to get the smell out. All they could do, she said, was to charge the occupants extra for smoking in a no-smoking room. I have to wonder if there were other odors (like meth- does it smell?) that were the real problem, and whether the cleaning people have now had exposure to what I do know are terribly damaging chemicals. I will give positive credit to the cleaning staff who had done a good job on their part, but they did not enter my room to empty trash or take towels the second day (I'm guessing because my door lock was broken). And the young ladies who worked the desk were as nice as they could possibly be given the impossible job that they have of trying to make unhappy customers more comfortable. It wasn't their fault that nothing worked. I fully blame the new owner who seems to refuse to spend money on upkeep. Original review from 2019 (I think). Clean! New. A great alternative to the Days Inn. No pool or bar. Smaller. Fewer breakfast options....
Read moreI did a Google search for a "pet friendly" resort on our way to Florida. Half way, we stopped at the Gassaway/Sutton Microtel because it was the closest one to where we wanted to stop.
We were traveling with my mom, me, and my grandmother who is 92-years-old as well as her service dog, and a kitten in a carrier I was taking home to Florida. When we asked to stay for the night, the entire hotel was empty besides (maybe) 3 or 4 other rooms. I informed the desk attendant that my grandma was in a wheelchair and we needed to be on the first floor. Getting my immobile grandmother into the hotel with our bags and her dog was exhausting. We finally get into the room and find one...yes ONE bed for the three of us. We called the front desk and she brought us down a roll away bed. I moved the queen bed that was in the room over to try to open the cot and it wouldn't fit. My mother ended up having to sleep on the same bed as my grandmother, and I slept on the padded window sill.
My grandma is diabetic and takes insulin as well as other pills. When she tried to take her medications that night, we noticed that there weren't any cups in the room. I had to run back to the car to get a bottle of water. The three of us noticed a foul odor in the room when we entered. Not to mention the cleanliness of the room wasn't great, but we were tired and at that point, we didn't care.
Here's where the story gets better. After a 2 hour night of sleep, sleeping on a padded window sill, my alarm went off at 5am and we started getting ready to leave. I told my mom that I would check to see what time breakfast was if she could could get my grandma ready and bags packed. 5:30am, we hear a loud pounding at the door. A woman, who wasn't wearing a mask came down and said that our adjoining neighbors complained about the noise we were making. She said, there were complaints of a dog "barking" all night (which is very untrue, my grandma's dog is trained and does not bark), and when my mom mentioned the kitten, she said, "Oh well, you violated our pet policy, and I'm going to have to ask you to leave. I have your card on file and I'm going to charge you $250.00". The website says, "pet friendly" and does not elaborate on what pets are and aren't allowed.
My mom tried to keep calm and said, "we have been packing up to leave." My grandma, visually upset started to cry and say, "I haven't taken my medicine yet." We got my grandma out of there as soon as possible and took her to a local gas station to get a bottle of water and some food to take her medication.
Not only was this a violation of the Americans Against Disabilities Act, but it was also a failure to practice social distancing while putting a 92 year-old at risk diabetic in danger. I have NEVER in my life felt so disrespected or disgusted with a hotel chain. I will not be going back to another Wyndham.
I made sure to take pictures...
Read moreLet me start by saying the hotel was ok for a basic hotel. Pretty clean although the room had a very odd smell, the sheets were clean looking, but felt a bit rough, and the shower had good water pressure, however the hot water wouldn't show up until the end of your shower. If it were just my husband and I I would have given this hotel 3 stars however we chose this one because it said it was pet friendly. Our "pet" is an 8 lb shih tzu, who is extremely well behaved, and never barks. From the time we got to the hotel with her we felt targeted. They changed our room 3 times even though all 3 times 2 call and once when we arrived I said up front that we have a dog. I was told on the 2nd call that the room we were in was one of the most expensive and that a pet room would be cheaper. She checked and said they didn't have a pet room because they were all booked up. So she but us In a room with 2 queen beds. When we checked in two ladies acted like we were bringing in a contagious disease. We were told we could not stay in the room we were assigned because of our "pet". She said we had to be in a room on the end. She put us on the highest floor 3rd st the very end. What was not explained was we would also not be allowed to use the elevator and would be expected to carry our stuff up 3 flights of steps and go down 3 flights of steps every time we came and went. We came back to the room at 11:30pm their was a man with a dog who was voicing a complaint about finding a bug in his bed when he call down he was told it was probably from his dog because they often bring those in. The treatment of guests with dogs and the staffs view of them is absolutely disgusting. The hotel should just say "no pets". I ask that the hotel owner change their policy and just let people know that pets are not welcome in their establishment. So for this reason I would give this hotel 0 stars if possible and I will...
