After a 4.5 hour drive.....When I arrived, the lady for the front desk was outside smoking with a guest. She was dressed in pants and a bright pink T Shirt with the collar cut out of it, not in the typical blouse/top/shirt worn by hotel staff for QIs. She explained she was new and she was very pleasant. The positives were nice fresh linens, toiletries, TV channel choices, and the furniture was very nice. The problems were: Overall the hotel has been redecorated but mainly there was a lot of coverup of damaged walls and basic run down conditions in the property masked by some modern wallpaper and decor. My room was standing open when I arrived as if left open by housekeeping. The lady who checked me in accompanied me to the room to confirm nobody was in it, which was nice. I was so tired by the time I settled in, there was no way I was going to ask for a new room or hotel, but the bathroom floor had not been mopped recently and the window sill was filthy. There was no deadbolt as in the whole mechanism was missing but I was able to secure the door with the security lever/lock on the door jamb. The internet password did not work, either. I was traveling on business and needed to get online to get work done. I explained this to the front desk lady and she said she would have to text the manager to see if the password had changed. She did not get back to me. On a whim I tried the password in all lower case and I was able to log in but there was no internet service going to the router! It kept going in and out but most of the time it was just showing no internet access. I used my hotspot to get some critical things completed. I got no response when I emailed Choice through my CP account online, about my issues with this stay. I called the manager who told me I should have demanded a new room because 'that is how the hotel business works.' That would not be my assessment of the hotel business having traveled as much as I have but nonetheless, my biggest issue by the time I settled in was getting online and getting work done. Demanding a new room was not going to fix the internet. Most QIs across the US that I have stayed at did not have issues such as these to even have to think about addressing let alone the lack of response from staff. Further, the lack of response from Choice Hotels Customer Service is also not typical of my long history of good experiences with Choice. Take my advice and pay 30.00 more for the QI on Secor road when in town or try the Comfort Inn in Oregon OH just out side of Toledo. Small rooms but very clean, great breakfast, excellent staff, quiet, and...
Read moreI’ve stayed at this property twice now. The first stay in 2021 was fairly uneventful. No breakfast because of the pandemic, but breakfast had returned this visit. At 7:30am Saturday morning, the food was largely picked over, so I would recommend getting to the lobby early if you want to take advantage of the free breakfast.||There is no elevator, so keep that in mind. You will need to carry any luggage up the stairs if your room is not on the ground floor.||Beds were comfy, staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the property was located in a convenient location for what we needed. We were competing in a mini golf tournament at Par 2 Golf, basically walking distance down the street. Overall, however, the area itself isn’t exactly great. Because there are several strip clubs and rundown buildings nearby, it can get a little sketchy after the sun goes down. ||There are plenty of good food options nearby. The Mexican restaurant (Cinco De Mayo) across the street was very good, Sideline Sports Bar down the street also had very good bar food. Also stopped at Big Slice Pizzeria and enjoyed that as well. Kudos to the hotel staff for the recommendation!||I will say that this visit in particular was disappointing from a cleanliness perspective. When we first got to our room, a used towel was still hanging from the bathroom door, a razor cover was laying in the shower/tub, and there was soggy macaroni in the bathroom sink. The cleaning crew did a great job Saturday morning, as the room looked immaculate when we returned later that day.||Sunday morning as we were preparing to leave, we did have a cockroach run across one of the walls. I was able to smash him, but I did feel a little uneasy as I was packing the rest of my things. I did not bother complaining to the staff, as we were checking out anyway. I also booked on a travel site, so there really isn’t a lot that can be done. I did leave a note in the room next to the carcass so the cleaning staff would find it.||Overall, staff was excellent, price was decent, amenities were ok, area and cleanliness left a lot to be desired. If you need a cheap room, there are definitely worse places to stay. But if you can afford to spend a little extra on your stay, I’d recommend...
Read moreWe checked in at 3pm on Saturday, June 24. Went to the room, #234, looked around and left shortly after arriving. We returned around 10:30pm. We began getting ready for bed and realized the toilet was not flushing. There didn't seem to be enough suction and the bowl was not emptying. My partner called down to the desk approximately 10:50. The woman who answered suggested holding the handle down longer. He tried this. It still did not flush. He attempted calling the desk again, but there was no answer. He then got dressed and went down to the desk. The woman working the desk called a maintenance person. When she got off the phone, she said he didn't feel like coming and he probably wouldn't. She then handed my partner a plunger and shrugged. No other option, such as changing rooms, was offered. My partner plunged the toilet, but the issue didn't seem to be a clog and it did not help. The toilet was not usable at this point. My partner went downstairs at 4am to use the washroom. There was a man at the desk who asked him if he needed help. My partner responded "yeah, if you can fix my toilet" and he said "it's still not working?" He said no. Again, no solution was offered. I had to dress and go downstairs in the morning to use a washroom. When my partner went down after me to use a washroom, the man on duty gave him the owner's name and email. We checked out shortly after, about 830am and asked about getting a refund. He said to contact the owner and Expedia as he couldn't do anything. The owner did not respond to either Expedia or myself. This is entirely unacceptable and I would not recommend anyone stay at this hotel.
UPDATE: I appreciate your response, however, am still waiting for someone to reach out to me to rectify this issue. I have contacted the hotel directly, Expedia and Choice Hotels. The owner/general manager has not acknowledged any of these communications. July 26th, 2023
2nd UPDATE: After contacting Expedia again, they were able to get approval from the hotel to give me a 20% refund. Still not satisfied, but I will accept it as the best I will get from this hotel. I understand that issues happen, but make it right....
