I can not begin to tell you what a wonderful time I had at the Hilltop House B&B !! This is a must go to landmark in Amenia and if you can get a reservation consider yourself lucky. You will thank me when you are there. I apologize to Sandy who is the owner of Hiltop for not publishing this review immediately after my stay. I stayed at the Inn the second week of June. Unfortunately, when I left this magical, tranquil location the grind of my hometown in NYC took over my life again. When I pulled up to Hilltop I was amazed. Being a professional in real estate I must say, Sandy and her family have the coolest style. The Bed and Breakfast has been serving guest since the early 1900’s. The house has such a warm cozy feel to it, it is enchanting. Sandy maintains the house to be beyond spotless. You can eat off of the floors. The decor is classic and has the most beautiful detailed furniture that I was simply blown away. It was everything I expected and more. The wrap around porch was so relaxing and again decorated to welcome all guests from near and far. I stayed in the Washington Room and I would stay there again in the future. From the cozy bath robes, soft pillows and cozy bed I wish I could have stayed long than I did. To top all of everything I mentioned, Breakfast was amazing!! Coming from NYC we always are on the go, working like dogs. To have a home cooked breakfast that included: homemade bread, homemade jam and delicious eggs and orange spice french toast I was ready to move in. The small town is also so cute and welcoming. The drive in movie theater is around the corner and is so family oriented. Thank you Sandy for giving me the most relaxing, enjoyable and wonderful trip to Amenia. I would recommend Hilltop to anyone that would like a memorable experience that feels like home. I will definitely not stay at any other Inn, hotel or BnB in Amenia because Sandy and her family have raised the bar in hospitality and no one can compare to them. They are the best!! Thank...
Read moreAs others have said, this is an excellent place to stay over in Amenia. More to the point, it's the only place to stay in Amenia unless you are willing to pay around $500.00 per night at the newly-opened Troutbeck, about 4 minutes down the road. Hilltop House is a private home with several guest rooms, done up with "homey" touches, and located in a neighborhood of smallish single family homes. There is central A .C. which was a godsend on a somewhat humid July night. The bed was firm but very comfortable and, with the electric fan going, there is zero noise to keep you awake-no traffic noise, no planes droning overhead, nothing but birds and an occasional rooster in the morning. The best part was breakfast which I characterized as "dangerous" because it would be possible to just keep eating it indefinitely. There is nothing like their baked (not fried) bacon from the oven, scrambled eggs done in a way that no restaurant can duplicate, and, last but not least, the scones, which can be their "signature" item, like the Harvard Club's popovers. If you come, it is best to drive, as the Metro North train service can be unreliable (they were using busses when I checked the Wassaic station that Saturday) and anyway there's no way to get around the area once there, other then cab companies out of Wassaic that use beat up Crown Vics and probably charge a fortune. Be sure to bring a small car as the driveway is a bit tight if the Hilltop is fully booked. This will be a good foliage destination that most will overlook as it's not Vermont or the Berkshires. Reserve early or you won't get in on your date of choice and be aware that...
Read moreMy husband and I chose to stay for several nights at Hilltop House Bed and Breakfast for our anniversary. We couldn't have made a better decision. Just as the gardens envelop the inviting wraparound porch, the atmosphere of Hilltop House surrounds you with a sense of relaxation. Chairs that are perfect for curling up with a good book are numerous. The porch invites you to grab a cuppa and enjoy a leisurely chat. The rooms are artfully decorated, the beds are very comfortable and many necessary items are provided: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hairdryer, flashlight, iron and ironing board and high speed wifi. A truly pleasant surprise was that the rooms at Hilltop House are even more beautiful and inviting than the attractive website photos depict. We were asked, upon arrival, if we had any food preferences or allergies. The included breakfasts we were treated to, the equal of any fine dining restaurant, included homemade breads spread with mascarpone and topped with fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey, a plate of scrambled eggs with bacon and the most delicious sauteed tomatoes, juice and delectable coffee. The second day's main dish was an amazing frittata. However, the thing that makes Hilltop House so very special is the warm and welcoming grace of Sandy and West Johnson, the owners of Hilltop House. They are an amazing resource for things to do and places to eat in the area. This wonderful couple obviously cares about making your stay with them...
