We stayed at the Cliff House room C for three nights.||||This house is tucked near the back of the property. The room itself is on the second floor and has a fairly private balcony. The balcony overlooks a quiet, unused lawn space. It does not overlook the fish boil or the inn patio. We preferred this.||||The hallway at the inn smelled just like my barbershop. They must use the same cleaning chemicals. It's an older building so that could contribute to it as well. The room itself is okay. The bed is comfortable and the room has a nice fireplace. It could use a larger table for the seating area. (For the morning coffee.) There's a very small TV tucked in a built in cabinet. It's not a room you'll be spending too much time in.||||The inns property is fairly quiet even when people are there to eat at the restaurant. It's a wooded area so we did deal with a couple bugs in our room and the hallway. It's a short walk from the shops and a short walk from Sunset Beach. The beach is usually quiet during the day and has a great view.||||The bathroom is the downfall of our stay. The shower is a single stall shower. Something you might find in an RV. The water pressure was fairly poor. The showerhead either needs to be cleaned or replaced as water does not come out correctly. There's one very small ledge in the shower for any shower items. We're a younger couple and of average build. I can't see anyone who is larger or older with mobility issues using this shower. * There's a reason they don't include pictures of the bathroom! *||||Breakfast is included when you stay at the inn. You get a voucher/coupon to use along with your receipt. I left a separate review for the restaurant. Overall, it was enjoyable.||||As of now I wouldn't be able to recommend staying here. If they could update the shower that would bump my rating up. But even then there are better places to stay at in the area. If you are looking at staying here maybe check out the other rooms. Avoid Cliff House room C if you want an...
Read moreTonight my husband and I went to the fish boil. It was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The fish boil was at 8 and we got there at 7:40 and checked in. We were told to go around to the back and the hostess would seat us and explain everything. In the back, people were all sitting at the outdoor tables and we stood at the hostess station for 10 minutes and no one talked to us at all. I noticed the hostess was going around speaking to the tables individually and she even looked our way a couple of times but ignored us. As we had never been to a fish boil before, we had no idea what we were supposed to be doing so just stood there. We felt very stupid as the other guest kept looking over at us. I finally went into the restaurant and told the hostess we had been standing there for quite some time. She was extremely rude and told me no I hadn’t and that we had just gotten there. I told her that she looked at us multiple times standing there waiting and she said no she hadn’t. I asked her why she was being so rude as we had no idea what we were supposed to be doing. Getting no answer, (she literally just stared at me) I walked back out to my husband and we were left standing there. At 8 o'clock the gentleman doing the fish boil started talking and we were still standing at the hostess station. We at that time decided it was time to just leave and eat somewhere else. It was the strangest, worst experience we’ve ever had made more disappointing as my husband has always wanted to experience a fish boil. NOTE TO THE OWNERS: not everyone knows how these things work. It may be something your staff does multiple times a week and they feel we should know the protocol of how it works but if you don’t know, you don’t know! If I could give this experience a 0 star I would it...
Read moreMy review covers our stay on December 20-22 2024. Our main reason for this trip was the Christmas time progressive dinner that took place between the White Gull and Thorpe Inn. We purchased a package in addition to our room stay for ourselves and another couple. Things that were good: the Inn was decorated quite lovely for the holiday. The afternoon sweets were festive and very good. Our servers in the dining room for both days/nights were wonderful. Things that were not so good: maybe my expectations were high but as festively decorated as the inn was, I thought our room would have more than a small wreath on the exterior door and a 18 inch snowman on the mantel. It could have looked so lovely to match the atmosphere of the inn for Christmas! The TV was small (the size of a computer screen) and because the bed was high and the TV mounted low, one could only watch TV if you pulled up a chair to a few feet away. The biggest disappointment was that the horse drawn wagon ride that was included in the package was canceled. The reason the horse owner gave was that it was too slippery. Now I understand that was not the fault of White Gull however the Inn surely built the cost of that into the package and seeing that they no longer had to pay the horse driver, I felt we should be refunded a nominal amount. I emailed that request to the Innkeeper and got no response. I emailed again 10 days later and still no response. It’s been a month now and I feel like I should have been given the courtesy of at least a response if nothing else. Unfortunately it has sullied our opinion of...
