Tried this campground for first time.the sites that have been renovated look real nice and the rock banks along the site roads look pretty. They are renovating. The people seem friendly. If it rains my site will be mud. They started, but did not get sites by mine finished.. we are Very disappointed: Absolutely NO activities planned for memorial day, bocce court loaded with pine cones, playground with rocks, mulch and dirt mounds. They are working today , Friday to try to mulch playground. At checkin they said, pool was ready, not heated and we may not want to go in cause it is cold as it was just filled yesterday( wed, we came thurs before memorial day)pool will be upgraded in 2 yrs. .. pool is loaded with dirt and bathroom building will be new, but incomplete. Walkway is dirt and piles of rock and dirt surrounding it.you couldn't go in if you wanted to. When i made reservations about a month ago , she said pool was not heated but will be ready. This morning(fri) the pool was being refilled.. The activity room has old firepits and other equipment under pavilion in front of entrance . Idk if it is even open. I guess this campground has app 6 years of renovating done so far, but, has a long way to go... disappointed! And, really no planned Memorial day activities! ?? Yes, and No mini golf! If we hadn't reserved and paid, we would leave. The guy next to us is trying for first time too m, and disappointed. He has kids too. They should be upfront re. all of this. And not lie and said pool hours are like store hours....when I asked. It is fri now and I am updating review. The deck on activity center is cleared and swept, but still closed . It would be nice for picnic tables, lights snacks and bingo, and social gatherings there.OK! Just found out today, that there is NO DUMP STATION. They have to redo it. We were told we need to pull into an unbooked site with sewage and dump ! Not upfront! The bathroom/ showers were backed up too. Just awful. Good Sam will be...
Read moreWe just spent a very relaxing 6 days at Lake George Riverview Campground in Lake George. The campground is very quiet and very dog friendly. The bathroom choices were good, with 2 types of shower/bath facilities. The standard set up was a common room with 2 stalls and 2 showers. I'd give this one an 8 out of 10. The 2nd was newer and featured 4 private rooms with toilet/sink/shower. The rooms were large and afforded privacy, which is a nice change from the standard common bathroom. The sites were a mix from a little small to moderate size back-in sites each with a table and fire ring, to long pull-thru sites. Many sites back up to the river. We stayed directly across from the beach, which occasionally had cars parked in the road, making it tight to get by. The pool was small and never very crowded, but we don't use it so it did not affect our stay. The boat launch is a great place to bring the dog for a swim as they are not allowed on the campground beach. All dog waste must be picked up and dumped in the dumpsters at the entrance, so plan your walks accordingly. Monday thru Thursday were pretty quiet and not packed with campers. It is busier on the weekends. The location is right off Exit 23 of I-87, and convenient to shopping and food. Biscotti Brothers Cafe was ok with dogs on the outdoor patio and close by. Ace hardware in Warrensburg was a good place for RV folks who need to do some maintenance or need parts/supplies. The campground is Good Sam rated, and I would recommend it as an excellent place to set up basecamp for exploring the Adironacks. Lake Placid and Saranac Lake were within a 90 minute...
Read moreSites are crammed right in one atop another and are loosely divided by large boulders. You basically have room to park one car, set up a large tent, and have a little "yard" room for your fire and picnic table (tables are a bit smaller than average, too). My neighbor's picnic table was less than five feet from mine to give you an idea on the spacing.
I was really only there to sleep while I visited other attractions in the area and I have a tiny one person tent so the site size didn't matter much to me, but it's something to keep in mind if you are coming here to actually camp, and especially so if you are coming with a family.
Of course the "being there to sleep part" becomes a problem when quiet hours are not enforced. I could hear kids screaming at the top of their lungs from across the campgrounds until midnight Friday night and my adult neighbors to either side had some serious volume control issues. Couple that with having flashlight beams and headlights constantly beating down on my tent until past midnight and it wasn't a terribly pleasant experience. Probably more the fault of inconsiderate fellow campers than it is the owners, but still a nuisance.
In short it is a cheap alternative to a motel for sure, but I would never come here just to camp for the sake of camping.
On a more positive note, the bathrooms are really nice, and the pool looked pretty nice from a distance too even though I wasn't there enough to...
