My husband and I stayed July 22-25. There were many issues with our room, but the biggest concern was the bedding. Both beds had dirt and hair in them. One of the bedspreads also smelled of sweat. We did not realize this until late in the evening when we were going to sleep, so we slept on top of the bedding instead of in it. The next morning I went to the office and explained that our bedding was dirty before we arrived, and asked if it could be completely changed. The gentleman at first seemed not to believe me, but then apologized and indicated he would have it taken care of. We left for the day and returned that night to find the beds had been made, but with the same dirty bedding. It had the same dirt spots on it, and the bedspread still smelled. Other issues were ants in the bathroom and up by the sink area, dirty walls and dust on a lot of surfaces, sand all over the ice bucket and its tray as well as the counter, and food particles in the coffee maker tray and microwave. The AC was adequate when running on full blast, though if it had been warmer during our stay I am unsure that it would be enough to keep the room comfortable. The room also had a strong musty odor. We hoped to talk to office staff about these concerns before we left, but when we went to check out there was no one in the office, and a sign stated to talk to housekeeping staff if we needed something. It seems strange to me that no one would be available around checkout time to speak to their customers and see how their stay was; however, the woman who was in the office when we checked in was very friendly and helpful. The setting and location were also nice, but beyond that, it was not worth staying in a dirty room with dirty bedding, and a strong odor. We will go back to paying more for peace of mind and a...
Read moreI hate to write a bad review because the owners appear to be trying hard, but I do not recommend this hotel to anyone with allergies. We booked two nights in this hotel, and had to abandon the 2nd night uncompensated because I did not want to end up in the hospital for my anniversary. I am allergic to mold, and the allergy triggered my asthma. My husband had a milder allergic reaction as he does not have asthma. I woke up in the middle of the night unable to breathe. I took a general allergy pill, used a nasal steroid, and my inhaler but it was unable to sleep as I had serious trouble breathing.||||We stayed in a ground floor unit. It was decorated cute, appeared clean, and up to date. The property appeared well cared for, and the hosts were friendly, but I would never be able to stay here again due to how sick I became from one night's stay. Sometimes I can shake off an allergic reaction by getting in the fresh air, but this time my lungs were so irritated fresh air combined with my inhaler did not help. ||||We booked through a third party, and the host did not offer a refund or even a different room. She blamed damp weather, but I think she knows the hotel has problems. However I don't think a different room would have helped. Other reviews mention musty smells and poor air quality. I am not sure how this hotel is up to code. There seems to be no source of fresh air to enter the room as they have baseboard heat rather than forced air. Then the hotel is closed up November through April. I think perhaps mold grows and in carpets and furniture when a building is shut up with no air circulation for...
Read moreI absolutely loved my stay at Parkside! I spent Friday & Saturday night here. It was a second floor room with 2 queen beds. I was alone, so I used just one bed and it was VERY comfortable, the bedding was CLEAN & SOFT. The entire room was spotless! I will say a few reviews mentioned an unpleasant musty odor, and my nose (which would put a bloodhound to shame) immediately found the source to be the two small cloth lampshades covering the little lights mounted on the wall above the nightstand between the beds. I would suggest replacing those, and that would eliminate the musty odor in the room. The Inn is located in an almost park-like setting with beautiful big trees. It’s quiet! I heard no noises from other rooms with the exception of a slight humming when the exhaust fan in the bathroom was used in one of the other rooms (either next door or the room below—wasn’t loud enough to really know where it was coming from, and it certainly didn’t last long and did not disturb my ability to fall asleep). Muffins served in the morning are amazing. Kathy (the front desk gal) and I enjoyed a long visit with in the parking lot upon my departure, and she is an absolute sweetheart! I will definitely be back with my hubby next time—possibly this year yet! I enjoyed the location in Ellison Bay—north of the always busy Sister Bay, yet a close enough drive to enjoy everything. Mink River Basin, about a block north of the Inn, has wonderful food and their lovely bartender, Sarah, was very attentive and know how to mix a good drink. I highly recommend both of these...
