(READ THE WHOLE THING) Original post: Nice building and fun atmosphere. The service was prompt and nice. A bit pricy and the hot chocolate I had was very watery and tasted like a pre-made mix. It would've been nice to see a little more effort in it. Otherwise nice place.
Edit 1: Not so nice was listening to the staff read my review and criticize it while I was sitting nearby. I can only guess that they didn't realize who I was or that I was still there, but its nice to know that they can't take some friendly advice. I've been to enough coffee shops before to know what good hot chocolate tastes like, you don't have to do a whole lot to bring it up from water and coco mix to something really good. Put a LITTLE effort into it.
Edit 2 (post owners reply): Firstly thank you for a quick and kind reply. It's nice to hear that you guys are working on the hot chocolate. Secondly I actually wanted to redact what I said earlier about the price. I thought about it a little bit more and I would say that everything on your menu was very well priced. I appreciate the refund, but don't need it. Most of all though thank you for listening to what I said and showing consideration to me. Consider me a satisfied customer, will stop again and have some of the famous coffee if I'm ever passing...
Read moreThe coffee shop is very cute- it's a converted church so nice and spacious. They don't have as many coffee offerings as most coffee shops that you'd be used to (i.e. no espresso machine, etc) so it's basically just coffee, iced coffee, chai, and the like. Unfortunately they were out of chai when we visited on a Friday in August so the selection was quite limited.
It's a very popular place and we came here to work. They have a spot in the back "co work space" where you can access high speed internet but it costs $14 to sit back there. There are plenty of other tables inside and outside where you can access internet but I lost connection a few times which dropped me from Zoom meetings :/. I wouldn't count it as a reliable place to take meetings unless you're willing to pay to sit in the "co work space" where there is 5G. It's also extremely loud outside as it's on Hwy 42 and there are dump trucks passing by constantly- again, not a good place to take a call.
My only other comment is the bathroom is locked which I found odd. We had purchased coffee drinks/breakfast in the morning but the line at the counter was consistently 5-8 people deep and I didn't have time to stand and ask for a key to the bathroom as I was working. It's sort of annoying they are locking...
Read moreMy husband and I visited Door County this past May — our fifth time up there — and FINALLY made it to Kick Ash… and oh my goodness, THIS PLACE IS AN ABSOLUTE GEM! Yes, I’m that excited!
From the moment we walked in, we knew we had stumbled upon something special.
*Customer experience? Absolutely outstanding. *Coffee? Delicious — rich, smooth, and exactly what you want to sip in a cozy cafe. *Bakery? 100% gluten-free and completely drool-worthy. As someone who eats gluten-free, this was a total win! *The shop? Filled with stellar merch — couldn’t leave without snagging a hoodie for my son!
We loved it so much that… we went FOUR times during our trip. Yes, really.
On our last day, we stopped by for road snacks and a goodbye coffee, and got to thank Carol Ash herself — the amazing owner behind it all. Her warmth and passion radiate throughout the entire space, and it’s clear why the cafe feels so special.
We’re heading back up in November for Thanksgiving, and I cannot wait to bring my son with us this time. Kick Ash will absolutely be one of our first stops!
Thank you Carol and the entire Kick Ash team — you’ve created something truly magical, and we...
