Mistake. I've wanted to come to this place for years. It is an old farmhouse in the garden and looks very charming with plenty of seating outside, under old trees. Perfect for cozy italian dinner. We had a 7pm reservation. Upon arrival, we were offered a table inside. I am pretty sure I asked for the outside while calling to make a reservation, but let it go. Inside, the table we were given was ok, but there was another one by the window in a nook, and I asked if we could have that one instead. I was told no as it is not set up and there is no service there. OK. We took the table offered. 30 min later, that table had people seated. We sat at our table for a solid 20 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. There were multiple staff coming in and out from the kitchen, wondering through the dining rooms, yet no one stopped by to even offer us water. Finally, our waiter stopped by, apologized, and said we would not have to wait anymore. We ordered a bottle of wine, their homemade foccacia and calamari with zucchini for appetizer. Foccacia was bad. It had very little air bubbles at the top, and it was toasted like crostini, which absolutely killed the beauty of fluffy, pillowy texture, which makes foccacia so yum It had no topping, not even rosemary. For 5 of us, we got a few thin small slices. That's it. No other bread service. Calamari with zucchini was very good, with very delicate coating and not rubbery. The dish was a good size. Then we ordered the main course. After another 20 min, our waiter came to tell us they were out of chicken one of us ordered. We quickly decided on another dish and continued waiting. During the wait time we sat at the empty table, the candle went out and no one replaced it. We were hungry and tired. It got dark inside and the lights were turned on. The restaurant has either led or fluorescent light globes mounted to the walls, which give a dim cold, unpleasant light. A different staff member stopped by and had a conversation with us about the country he is from, Olympics, and other sports and that was very nice. Our dishes showed up at 8.45 pm. I got gnocchi with mushrooms. The dish was very average. Gnocchi looked homemade but were very small and the mushrooms were tasteless. My party also ordered whitefish, which was ok, beef cheeks also ok, and another pasta dish, again, ok. Nobody stopped by to ask if we liked it. At the end we skipped the dessert as we didn't want to wait for it again. When asked for a check, we got it immediately. The appetizer and foccacia were deducted from the bill but it was not mentioned to us. The restaurant was not busy and quite empty when we were leaving. I understand it is a new place, just opened 2 months ago in a place of the old establishment and still has a lot of room for improvement in the ambiance,...
Read moreFirst and foremost I want to start this by saying that my wife and I are from Wisconsin not Illinois. We appreciate door county for all it has to offer for tourists and have tremendous respect and admiration for the locals. Osteria Tre Tassi prides itself on being farm to table; this is a very interesting feature of the restaurant and admirable. Our night started with meeting the 4th cousin of the famed Francis Ouimet who was the first amateur to win the United States open at the Brookline Country club in 1913. The gentlemen who greeted us was unbelievably cordial, funny, and right away I had a fantastic feeling that tonight would be a special night.
My wife and I are celebrating our first anniversary and we’d eaten at Wickman House 2 years ago. Following in the footsteps of a place like Wickman House would be a challenge even for the greatest chef or restaurant in the world. Let’s face it, the place was an absolute gem with incredible food, ambiance, service, and a unique experience that was hard to find anywhere else.
Let’s start with drinks. My wife ordered a mock tail (Cinn-sation) which perhaps was the best thing we ate all night. I ordered a caprese martini which had good flavor. We’re off to a solid start with drinks.
Appetizers is where we got a little lost. The first appetizer was the bruschetta burrata which on paper sounded excellent with prosciutto on top. Bland was the feeling and taste both me and my wife had with that dish. Ok, maybe we just didn’t get the concept of that dish or perhaps we ordered wrong?
Next app came out with our food order to which the server apologized and removed it from our bill (we didn’t ask for that but that was a very kind gesture). That app was basically an Arrancini. It was overcooked and frankly dangerous to eat. As someone in the dental profession, that dish could’ve cracked teeth easily. I felt nervous to keep eating it but taste wise it was actually quite good. Maybe just overcooked and again that happens, it’s ok.
We ordered 2 pastas that were cooked well but to be honest with you, we’ve had better pasta. Examples of places with superior pasta we’ve had would include Lago Su Bella in Oconnomowoc and Tenuta’s in Bay View. Maybe it’s just our taste buds?
Overall I don’t think we’ll come back. Maybe I would go back and try other dishes? We knew going into it that cost wise it was over 100$ easily to eat there for 2 people and cost was not an issue. Portion was not an issue either. I just wish we would’ve left feeling like we’d had a fantastic meal and overall we agreed it was a 4.5/10 rating
Thank you to the wonderful staff and team members at Osteria Tre Tassi. I hope you see my review and let me know...
Read more7/7/2025 update: 5 stars. Superb drinks, service, and food. We loved our drinks, the caseracce, the whitefish, and the cannoli, but the pistachio stole the show. Our server was superb! Thanks !
This is a 4.5! We were delighted to eat here after it replaced the Wickman House, which are huge shoes to fill. Fortunately, they have decided to be themselves and have done a great job at it! The food is the star of the show and it’s excellent. It’s fresh, flavorful, not salty, and mostly locally sourced. Standouts were the focaccia bread, Romana salad, and Fagiola Alla Toscana. In particular, the dressing on the salad, and the pasta noodles were outstanding and among the best I’ve ever had. The whitefish piccata also was very good - it was fresh and not over seasoned, so the locally sourced whitefish was allowed to shine. We also loved the cannoli. The service was spectacular. We initially were sat at a table in the bar, which was bustling and too loud for our taste. It really looked like a fun setting, but just wasn’t what we wanted that evening. They immediately moved us without any fuss to another table in the dining room, which we really appreciated. Our server, Eli, was fun friendly, knowledgeable, and excellent. The only disappointment were the drinks. The Italian brandy old-fashioned tasted like a good Wisconsin supper club old-fashioned, which is a compliment, but it didn’t taste special or “Italian.“ Similarly, the Siciliano tasted like gin and lemon juice - without the flavor of Galliano or pistachio. Because lemon juice isn’t listed on the menu we actually thought we got the wrong drink. The White Negroni was superb as was the after...
