TLDR: Clean and comfortable reasonable-priced hotel with a very helpful, friendly staff. Would I stay there again? Yes, absolutely.
Stayed two nights at the Budget Inn, Liberty New York during the week while on a trip. Positives: The room was neat, clean, and comfortable. The carpet was new, and the room had been painted recently. The furniture was in good condition. There was a refrigerator; slightly larger than the normal tiny ones you get in hotel rooms. It worked well (and quietly). Rates were reasonable. There was sufficient hot water. It took a minute or so to warm up, but that’s normal in a hotel. And the hot water was HOT, not just a bit warm. Room included such things as an iron and a hair dryer. Non-smoking is taken seriously! There were no lingering smoking odors in the room! Mattresses were comfortable and seemed new. The bed clothes did not show any wear. So often they’ve clearly been used so much they seem worn out and threadbare. Not in this case. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A+ Negatives (all minor): They really need to upgrade their office computer. It’s so old I think it still uses 3.5 inch drives (seriously!). So, it took a while to check-in. The hotel owner is remodeling and in some places the building’s age showed, especially in the bathroom. For example, the tub needs to be reglazed. But it was clean, so this is purely cosmetic. Each guest got exactly one washcloth and one bath towel. But the staff was so helpful I am sure if we’d asked for more they would have provided them. OK, this is a weird one. There is a Frito-Lay plant a short distance away, and when the wind was in the right direction it smelled like burning popcorn. This clearly is not the hotel’s fault, and the smell was not present in the rooms. Neutral: There was no chest-of-drawers or closet. We didn’t need one, so this is just an FYI. There is an alcove to hang clothes and coats though. The Budget Inn is not on the main hotel/restaurant strip so there were no restaurants walking distance to the room. This didn’t matter to us, but it might to other visitors, so it’s mentioned here. The staff was very helpful in recommending places to eat or get groceries (and warned us about a local restaurant to avoid.) Of course, you could probably walk to the Fritos factory and get a lot there! The room was small. It was fine for two guests, and we did not need a bigger one, but keep in mind the room’s size if you need a bigger room. Another room was a bit bigger and had a desk and a chair. There was no ice machine or soda machine. At least that we saw, but...
Read moreOur first time staying in the Catskills and we decided upon this place based on the reviews. It’s not the Hilton or Hampton Inn but it’s not like we’re gonna be spending all day in the hotel we just need a place to sleep for the night plus the price was reasonable.
I should’ve trusted my gut instinct...
I didn’t get a good feeling when I pulled up. The place looked run down but then I seen a sign that said they were doing renovations. Ok, fine. Get our keys to the room and as soon as we walk in we were greeted by a BIG obnoxious dark stain on the floor next to the bed. Looked closer and seen it was also on the sham itself also. Again we just shrugged it off considering what we paid. Other then that the place looked clean. We were only there for 2 nights bc we stayed the weekend. However... ALL BETS ARE OFF the day we were checking out and seen a giant roach crawling up the wall!!!! We took everything out our bags and shook everything out hoping nothing crawled in. Hopefully we don’t have any new “pets” within the next couple of weeks bc we’ll know where they came from rolls eyes.
Said something to the front desk guy as we were checking out and he said “ he’ll take care of it”. He asked me if I was a certain person (he said they’re name) and I told him “ no”. I didn’t ask why but when I thought about it that tells me that someone else most likely complained about “ pests” as well. Doesn’t matter because we won’t be back.
Not to mention the room next to us had their tv up way too loud especially early in the morning and we could hear them talking. Sounded like they were arguing. Or maybe that’s just bc the walls are thin and the place is cheap. Could hear footsteps above that sounded like they were gonna come through the roof. The water in the shower was kinda funny. It was either wayyyy too hot to the point where you could burn yourself or it was wayyy too cold. Had to finagle with it for a bit. This place was overall weird..
I guess you get what you...
Read moreYogi answers the phone, he seems to be on property all the time, we're an older couple and were perfectly happy with our one night stay.||We were helping friends move, so we were hot, tired, and just needed to crash for the night.||Yes, we could hear the people above us, (we were on the ground floor) but it was not enough that we couldn't sleep.||Super easy to find, right off the freeway, I have a tiny traveling coffee maker that I always pack which was great as the room does include a mini fridge/microwave, but no coffee. A tiny bar of soap and packets of shampoo/conditioner all in one are in the bathroom.||It doesn't have a hairdryer or dresser, but plenty of hanging space, it's clean enough (and yes, I always flip mattresses to check for bugs, even at the Four Seasons) and the wifi was good enough. The TV was fine, there was a power strip for all our essentials, but there wasn't an outlet in the bathroom.||When we told some restaurant owners in Livingston Manor that we were staying at the Budget Inn, they looked at us in horror, clearly they don't get out much. ||Go ahead, book a room at the Budget Inn, but it's not the...
