My parents generously gifted us an overnight stay at East Wind Inn and Spa to celebrate my 59th birthday. I had fond memories of the place — it used to be a luxurious, relaxing escape. Unfortunately, it’s clear those days are long gone.||From the start, things felt off. I called the morning of check-in to request an early arrival since I had a 2 p.m. massage. I was curtly told that early check-ins aren’t guaranteed — something I understand, having worked in hospitality myself. Still, I politely explained that guest requests are usually noted on the arrivals list. After some back-and-forth, the woman agreed to “put my name on the housekeeping list.” Thankfully, she later called to say the room was ready before my appointment.||We were assigned room 215, a king jacuzzi room. It felt cold, empty, and echoed due to the lack of a rug. The bathroom looked dated and in need of renovation. Also, the room shares a main entry door with another unit, which added to the feeling of being in a dormitory, not a high-end inn.||At the spa, the atmosphere was equally underwhelming. I was greeted by a young woman, while several other employees stood around chatting with a staff member — who wasn’t even working that day but had brought her daughters to visit. Not exactly a tranquil or professional vibe.||I waited in the quiet room, and my massage therapist, JJ, arrived late. He was kind, but his touch was much too heavy for my frame, and the massage was far from relaxing. Afterward, I attempted to shower. One rainforest shower was out of order, the other wouldn’t turn on, and the shampoo dispenser was broken and just sitting there. I moved to the handicap-accessible shower but had to hold the hose myself — so much for a soothing rinse. A staff member admitted the showers are overdue for a facelift. The hairdryer in the locker room? A cheap, nozzle-less Conair.||When I paid, I used the $50 spa voucher included in the package, yet still had to pay $120 out of pocket. Way too expensive for the quality of the experience.||Later, at the bar, we tried to enjoy our two complimentary drinks. When my husband ordered a Crown Royal, he was told it wasn’t included. Really? We felt nickel-and-dimed at every turn.||Dinner at Desmond’s was a better experience — good portions and service, though even with our $50 voucher, we spent another $45 out of pocket.||The next morning, I had a 10 a.m. facial. While browsing, I was interested in roll-on perfumes, but two didn’t have testers. When staff asked the manager, she simply said, “No testers.” So… no sale.||My facial with Tabitha was pleasant. She was kind and skilled, but her room was next to the hydro spa where a loud jacuzzi tub ran during my entire service. Not relaxing. She also tried to upsell me on additional treatments while I was lying on the table — something I found inappropriate and intrusive. After using another $50 voucher, I still paid $90. Again — overpriced for the quality.||I left the spa disappointed, irritated, and telling myself one thing: I will not return. East Wind feels stuck in the past. It’s become overpriced, outdated, and out of touch with what a true spa experience should feel like.||With all due respect to the good memories I once had here — this place needs a...
Read moreMy husband and I checked in for my best friend’s wedding so our stay totaled three nights. The exterior of the Inn is incredibly beautiful. The landscaping is lovely and the appearance is elegant overall. The main lobby and halls are also very elegant and beautifully decorated. The rooms themselves are very underwhelming. They are outdated, dark, and certainly not worth the price we paid. The rooms don’t have modern amenities such as refrigerators, microwaves, and nicer coffee makers. The massive headboard behind the bed was not secured tightly to the cheap metal mattress frame and leaned considerably away from the wall. The temperature control system did not function properly and the room stayed at over 80 degrees which was extremely uncomfortable.
The bridal party made reservations at the salon at the Inn the day before the wedding. Prices were reasonable, however each nail technician did a poor job of performing the tasks requested of them. I requested a French manicure and the technician told me she wasn’t very good at them so I should probably pick a solid color instead. And while I appreciate the honesty, as a customer, I should expect to receive the service I ask for. On top of that, the technician filed my nails so aggressively that it hurt, rolling the edge of my nail under itself, and causing the “nails scratching on a chalkboard” sensation. This made the manicure very unpleasant. The shellac polish was also applied over my skin and cuticles and wasn’t cleaned up. Another member of the bridal party was cut several times by the technician attempting to trim her nails and cuticles. The same technician also filed so aggressively that she filed the skin on my friend’s fingers to the point of removing layers of skin until they were raw and red.
The only reason my review has two stars instead of one is due to the outstanding waiting staff during my friend’s wedding and reception. Marylou and Tony were incredibly helpful, going above and beyond to make my friend’s wedding special and stress-free. They will definitely be remembered as a big part of the success to this wedding and how well things went.
Overall, I’m disappointed in the quality of the rooms at the Inn and Spa at East Wind. I would not recommend a stay here, and my husband and I will not...
Read moreFirst - the good things. The beds are comfortable. Plenty of hot water. The food at Desmonds is outstanding. Great bartenders in bar. That said - the rest of the stay was terrible. The rooms are large and DARK. One small single person chair to relax in and one hard back chair at the desk. Wallpaper peeling, furniture old and in poor shape. Lamps falling over and no holders for the shades so they were tipped. TV - unable to navigate the channels. Curtain had tape to seal a rip. The coffee station in the room was inadequately stocked. One (already opened) packet of sugar, creamer, and stir stick. Not restocked on a daily basis. Cleaning was iffy - didn't take away dirty glasses and didn't wipe down small spill on desk surface. Bathroom not restocked with toiletries. Bathmat one day, no bathmat the next. Elevator to the second floor was slow. Used also by the kitchen. Very dirty walls and floors on the elevator with dirt and food waste in the door track. Check in was ok - but given misinformation. Told no breakfast (they do have breakfast on Saturday only and a brunch on Sunday). No one to help with luggage. Found a luggage cart for our group of four including two people with difficulty walking. Luggage cart stayed in hallway after our use until noon the following day. Food waste (pizza boxes, take out food containers) stayed on the hallway floor outside room doors for almost 24 hours. Food at restaurant was very good BUT only one server for the whole restaurant. Long waits to get things prompted several in our group to go seek out staff for basics -water, ordered wines that were not delivered, etc. Hallways were generally not clean - discarded water bottles, papers on floor or on tables, etc. Very few areas where you could relax with others outside of room. Very poor attention to detail in general. All in all a very subpar hotel. Appears to be a favored wedding venue (large fancy ballrooms) but not a good place to relax or spend the night. Go the Residence Inn or other hotel...
