GuestKeeper Inn — Hotel in Van Wert

My girl friend and I were on our last leg of the Route 127 Yard Sale, and this was the last room available in town, which means we couldn't be picky. The marquis stated this hotel was under new ownership, so I am going to give the new owners a little bit of the benefit of the doubt. This was very dated, and needs some renovation. The fan attached to the light unit in the bathroom was so loud (with the door closed), you could barely hear the TV in the other room. There was an old toothpick on the floor in the bathroom, which makes me wonder how good the housekeeping is. They used a top sheet as a bottom sheet, and just tucked it in, which I hate because inevitably during the night you get all bunched up in sheets from moving around; it also creeps me out a bit to see the bare mattress showing in a hotel. It did have a frig., microwave and coffee pot which was a plus.||||They had a pool, which looked like it had become a pond for god knows what, which takes me back to the fact they stated these are new owners, and I'm not sure how long they've had the place. The pool needs a complete overhaul, and they need to let customers know it is not in service at the moment, unless you're looking for a place for your pet frog to frolick in.||||The girl at the desk upon our arrival was very sweet though, and tried to be as accommodating as possible, offering suggestions on eating establishments in the area.||||I can deal with almost anything for one night, and when the options are few, leaves you with...

I had a family emergency and drove in around 10 pm. After seeing family, I went to get a room. It was around midnight. I go up to the window which stated open. I rang the buzzer and wok up the owner/worker. He was grumpy and rude. I asked for a non smoking room as I do not smoke and the owner/worker argued with me stating " you smell like smoke...and acted like he didn't want to give me a room. Really??? Is this guy serious? I just came from a stressful family emergency and a couple family members smoke. After 10 minutes of back and forth, he finally gave me a room. Terrible place. At check in on a Sat. we asked about the weekly rate and let the owner/manager know we might stay the week and that We'd know on Monday afternoon. We paid for 2 nights, half the weekly ||rate. ||On Monday when we asked to get that weekly rate we were told we'd have to pay the whole amount. We didn't think that was very nice and we said so. The owner told us not to come back. ||We are nice people. We were polite and did nit get angry or use swear words. We are upset that he would say not to come back. ||Its not like this place is 5 star, it doesn't merit 2. The bathtub had a very slow drain so you were standing in water, the bathroom fan sounded like a train and towels like sand paper, but is was cheap so we overlooked much.
