Holiday Inn Express & Suites Van Wert by IHG — Hotel in Van Wert

My children and I needed to travel to OH and I decided we would make it a fun trip. I booked this hotel for the pool only. It was the only pool in the area which stated it was indoor, heated and open. We showed up at 4pm, check was easy and we picked the first available time slot. We went to our rooms and changed into our bathing suits. We went to the front desk, the attendant let us into the pool area. One step in and you could tell the pool was not heated. It was freezing, possibly 40 or 50 degrees. None of my kids wanted to get in. They are usually fish. I went to the front desk. I showed her on the website where it stated it was an indoor pool. She told me it was set at 80 degrees. I told her there is no way that pool is above 50. She said they weren't allowed to turn it up any further. Please let me remind you this was the only reason we stayed at this hotel. I called corporate from the pool area. About 10 minutes later, an employee comes into the pool area goes to the mechanical room, turns a knob, the jets in the pool come on for the first time and are shooting out warm water. The employee informs me it was set at 80 and she turned it up 7 degrees. It was freezing. We decided to wait until later and see if it heats up. We went down about 9pm and the pool was warmer but still mid 50's- 60's. The next morning we tried again and it was the same as the night before. 1) if you advertise heated.... have heated. 2) I don't like to be lied to. The employee should of been honest and tell us the heater hadn't been on before...

I was visiting the Van Wert area with a friend over a weekend in March 2022, and we had the opportunity to spend a Saturday night at this hotel. We very much enjoyed our stay!||||The check-in process was okay, and we were able to check in early which I greatly appreciated. The computer was a bit slow in printing a receipt acknowledging that I' paid with cash for the room, but no biggie. Our room (#317) was clean and comfortable... we had no issues whatsoever.||||I appreciated the fact this hotel had a business center that I was able to use for catching up on my social media, and breakfast in the morning was very good.||||The only downsides are that you can tell that it's an older building and that the indoor pool does not have a hot tub (we knew this before we'd made the reservation), but honestly, it's probably the best hotel in Van Wert. Also, we were given a room near the elevator despite my request in the initial reservation for a room away from the elevator. (My request for having a room on the top floor was granted - but not the request about it being away from the elevator.) That last thing wasn't a huge deal and wasn't worth the hassle of going back and asking for a different room.||||We had no complaints at all. We slept well. Our stay was very nice and I'd gladly stay here again if I ever need a room in Van Wert in...

Check in was easy and quick. I did get the room I had requested which was a plus.||The hotel is older, but has had some renovations. ||The room was average sized and appeared clean.|The king bed was comfortable and there were enough pillows.||room lighting was an issue as the main light kept flicking on and off- Im not sure if it had a bad switch or loose wire.||The room had a nice big TV, but oddly it was somewhat offset with respect to the bed. it did swivel out so it wasn't a big deal. ||There were outlets near the bed, but they were an older style so only one of the modern larger charger blocks could fit at one time. the outlet by the closet was so old my charger fell out. ||the room had the standard fridge, microwave, and tiny coffee maker. ||The bathroom was decent sized, but there were only 2 big towels. The tub was somewhat old and the fixtures needed updating. ||The AC worked well although a bit noisy. ||The wifi sucked. barely 2 bars. ||they hotel had a pretty decent gym and a small pool that appeared clean. There was no hot tub.||Breakfast was OK. std Holiday Inn fare with cinnamon rolls, eggs, etc. ||Overall the hotel was fine, but it was maybe a bit pricey an average Holiday...
