Our Vero Beach getaway….we arrived at around 5-5:30 pm to a welcome note on the office door with room number and a message we will see you tomorrow, they left for the day. We quickly found our room on the second floor facing the sunrise. The place was pretty empty, maybe three rooms occupied. We were assigned room 12, again second floor facing sunrise. I booked this room about 2 months prior to arrival, spoke to the receptionist on the phone and explained we were 3 adults traveling. She assured me that the king suite would fit the 3 of us with king bed and futon. I had no problem with booking on line this room type with 3 adults inputted into system. I say this because at this time you are unable to book a king suite with more than 2 adults. It was never suggested that maybe we should get 2 rooms side by side as the futon was tiny, maybe fit for one child. Upon entering room you walk into the ‘living area/kitchen what felt like 80 degrees! In the bedroom you find a wall air con unit, the only air con unit for the 2 rooms. The bedroom felt like 68 degrees. I called when we noticed and felt how hot the living room was and could not imagine any of us sleeping in the so called futon in that heat. Her response “the way I position the bedroom door, the air jets out into the living room”. There was no air ‘jetting out’ anywhere. The receptionist said there was nothing she could do. I asked to be called the next day but I did not receive any call, all that was done was an extra fan left in the room the next day, mind you there was one already in the living area facing the futon. ( on high when we arrived!) The air con in the bedroom was on continuously and is very loud and like I said it does not shut off. The futon was not big enough for an adult to sleep on. When booking I was told to place a comment, to remind her that we needed sheets for the futon….no sheets left, not a big deal but just adding more to the disappointment in this motel. At $286 a night I would expect a bit more. When we did get home I started reading ALL the reviews and there are a few about the air con that I missed. That is a total deal breaker. So if you don’t mind 80 degrees inside in Florida heat this place would be fine for 2 adults, nothing more. If the receptionist attempted to make things right and move us to another room it would have made a difference but I was shut down as soon as I called. Maybe a room that is not in direct SUN all day would be cooler. I am really not sure but Stay away from room 12 or any rooms on that strip. There are plenty of other motels/airbnb in the area to book with. I have added pics to see the room set up as well and how the cold air is ‘supposed to jet...

Read moreMy extended family of 12 visited this property as a Plan B after Hurricanes Milton and Helene forced us to change our original plan to spend 2 weeks on the Gulf Coast. My wife’s family have been visiting a particular destination on the Gulf Coast for decades and we hadn’t visited Florida’s Atlantic Coast for a long time, so this trip was a bit of a punt. After researching the impact of the recent storms we felt comfortable that Vero Beach hadn’t suffered damage to the extent that we would feel disrespectful visiting as tourists and after looking at various hotels in the area we settled upon the Seaspray. ||We loved the hotel from the moment we arrived and that love grew bigger the longer we stayed. This is an old (at a guess, 50s?) motel that has been sympathetically updated with a refined retro surf vibe which works well given that the (beautiful) beach is a short stroll away. Many of the original fixtures remain, particularly in the bathrooms and to a lesser extent the kitchens, however I personally believe that this adds to the charm. The rooms are spacious and all seem to have been decorated slightly differently, which is a nice touch. ||The communal spaces are lovely and offer a welcoming atmosphere for guests to socialise in the chilled environs (shout out to Pastor William and Dwaine), whilst the pool is well shaded and looked after. Like the rest of Vero Beach there are lizards (and other wildlife) in abundance. The office has all sorts of resources to help you enjoy your stay like free coffee, books, games and beach chairs and beach toys. ||The hotel’s secret weapon, though, is the manager, Meg. She is without doubt the most attentive, hard-working person I’ve ever encountered at a hotel. She cannot do enough for her guests and does not stop working to make your stay better. There were times she’s was like a mind-reader, getting things for us before we had even asked! She was great with the kids, fetching nuts to feed the squirrels and giving us all kinds of tips to help enhance our visit. By the time we left we felt we had made a true friend in Meg and she was a huge part of what made the hotel so special for us. If the owners are reading this, whatever Meg is getting paid, I cannot recommend guarantee she is worthy of a raise!||If you value warmth, character and independence in a hotel over a sanitised, cookie-cutter chain hotel experience, I cannot recommend the Seaspray enough. We will be returning the first...
