Location isn’t bad as it is close to the highway and multiple gas stations/food choices so for travelers the location is decent. Unfortunately, the hotel itself is not as decent. My family were traveling from FL to NY for my mother’s wedding and we booked a room at the Best Western in Walterboro, SC, through Priceline. We arrived before check in time and were immediately met with attitude. When I asked if we could pay to check in early the female manager, I don’t remember her name but she has glasses, immediately snapped at myself and my husband and scoffed before saying “only if we have a clean room”. She also gave me attitude due to the fact that I mistakenly booked a pet room and we did not have a pet with us. When we got to the room we noticed a smell but just chalked it up to being an older hotel. There were also earwigs in the bathroom, so needless to say we all skipped showers. The staff told us about a free breakfast several times so I decided to take my two daughters (age 9 and 11 months) to get some food before we got back on the road. As soon as we got into the lobby and entered the dining area we were met with stares and dirty looks from a very large group of people. Not only did they whisper under their breath about me and my family, they also blocked the food line and tried to prevent me from getting food for my kids. They were essentially shaming me with their dirty looks and rude comments. As someone who already struggles with mental health and anxiety issues, this was very hard. I got very upset and left our food on the table. I told the front desk that I would be back to get the food. I told them I was severely uncomfortable due to the other people in the dining area staring at me and making comments about my family. No one spoke up and asked them to stop. The manager with the glasses, did help me bring the food up to my room. But while doing so, she also tried to rationalize and defend what those people were doing. She just kept saying that they were a large church group, and that they were nice, good people. No one apologized, no one asked if I was okay. I felt so disrespected and literally sick to my stomach. Immediately after that, my family and I packed our bags and left. The staff at this location needs some customer service training. I was horrified at the way every single person who worked there acted. Disgusting. I will absolutely never stay at this location again, and if you have a family I would certainly avoid it...
Read moreMy family and I reserved a double room here as a pit stop on our way from Philly to Florida - it was the perfect halfway point and the reviews online looked good. I tried to call from the road to confirm our reservation as we were going to be arriving later than planned due to traffic. But I couldn't get anyone... strange - literally no one answered! So we called the Best Western 800-number, who said they would get a message to the motel and assured us our reservation would be honored even if we arrived late. When we arrived, the office was closed and you had to check in at this weird window, which we did. Eventually, a man came out and showed us to a ground floor room. It smelled bad but we were tired so we began unloading our bags. My son used the bathroom and said it was gross - from a teenage boy! I checked and it was filthy... didn't look like it had been cleaned, hair in the drain and bugs on the walls. Then my daughter turned down the sheets to get into bed and found more bugs - big bugs and small (bed?) bugs - and what looked like blood stains! As an aside, we are not picky people - both individually and as a family have traveled a lot domestically and abroad and don't expect much from a hotel/motel - just a reasonably clean place to lay our heads for a night's sleep. We called to ask for another room and the man came back and showed us another ground floor room that was just as dirty and buggy, as in BUGS (lots of them) ON and IN the bed, and blood stains and a strange (moldy?) smell. We were so exhausted and just wanted to sleep, so we asked to see a room on an upper floor hoping that it might be better. The man refused, saying that every room we checked had to be marked "dirty" and recleaned and he didn't want to do that. Just as well, I guess, as I assumed they would be. It was too late to begin searching for another place to stay so we ended up driving a bit further, stopping to sleep in the car - not fun! Later learned that all Best Westerns are franchises so they are hit-or-miss. We'll avoid them all from now on and stay at Hampton Inns or Holiday Inns. They are similarly priced as this Best Western but MUCH, MUCH cleaner and more reliable. I'd give this place zero stars if I could!
UPDATE: In response to Owner's comment below... We did not stay at all; we left and were...
Read moreBelow please read the review to this hotel 3 years ago. 3 years ago this hotel was a jewel in the industry for cleanliness and friendly staff. No more.
July 26 2018. Great and friendly check in clerk. Beyond that a desaster. The room smelled like a wet and dirty dog. Not a good smell. The bathroom had towels behind the door hanging from the previous guest, an oversite by the housekeeping besides not vacuming the room with evidence of dirt in corners. The breakfast is quickly removed at 9am on the dot. Upon returning to my room while having gathered my bill and letting the desk know that my keys will be left in my room when I check out in an hour and having DO NOT DISTURB SIGN ON THE DOOR the housekeeper barges into the room NOT EVEN KNOCKING on the door, catching us by surprise. No appologies just an excuse that the front desk had said we had checked out. REGARDLESS. One knows especially since the front desk had given wrong information and no apologies rendered. Rude obese black clerk on check out. Did not care at all.

Everything in this hotel is CLEAN! The rooms have flat screen tv and a comfortable table to do your work. The beds are comfy and the lobby is clean and bright. Parking is no a problem with many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The staff is friendly and the breakfast includes protein generating food like egg and sausages along with those high cabs like waffles and yogurt also fruits. The wi fi is tricky it requires you to sign in and then those techy people like myself are denied goofle apps like remote control because it goes to a differnet router. That is the only drawback. Oh, the pool is clean and the small gym withi is minimal no weights just treatmills is clean as well. For a hotel around 80.00 or less it is a...
